Think the rent is too high!!! I am surprised Subway still around. Come on Danny. Take a few hundred a month off rent so we can keep a good place to eat.
I'm sure it's not the rent! People just don't have the money to spend liberally anymore! Barnesville's big wigs need to focus on jobs, jobs and more jobs!
to many youngin's trying to liberate an old farming town to big city way's of thinking.as well as greed with over priced rents.if it shows anything its shows country folk with over priced educations and greed for the all money dollar rule...
I think its just the poeple in this town, you all are so negitive and quick to lay the blame...I wounder how much money you spent at these places????
Its not just food its movies , cloths store ...I am sure there are more to come..
If we dont spend money there they cant pay their bills...
Times are hard...
don't get me started about allstate cause they started up telemarket and i wish mac and crew quit calling unsolicited.next time they might git slapped wit big fine cause he making folks here so mad
My 3 experiences with Shanes were all pretty poor. I gave it a shot the first time on my own. The second and third were with friends who wanted to try it. The fries were over cooked and the chicken strips weren't seasoned at all and over cooked. RIP and good riddance. What B-ville really needs is a decent sit down restaurant like Ruby Tuesdays, Applebees or O'Charleys.
It's not a bad location at all...times are just tough and people are not eating out as much... it actually is one of the nicest strip malls in town- better than where Allstate went.....go figure....
People would spend money if the places were any good.... Movies coming out are crap, I can order PPV and not worrie about returns, and BBQ isnt a place were people want to go, BBQ is on every corner in Bville... the problem isnt the location either, the problem is quality. A place where someone can get a good steak, meet after church, and take the family out is what we need!
you got to be kidding!rudys is with out a question the worst bar-b it doesn't even count as bar-b-q.now if your looking for tractor parts-lumber-guns or dope now thats a different story
Loosing the Chinese plant is what is causing the restaurant business to suffer. A couple of the restaurants (bbq) opened satelite locations here because they thought Barnesville was about to boom with hundreds of construction workers eating daily. This is just how the old ball bounces in a recession. Those guys took a gamble the Chinese factory was going to open, it didn't, they lost. To quote Michael Corleone "it's not personal Sonny, it's strictly business."
I really liked Shane's but there are too many BBQ places for a small town. Don't know anything about Allstate ... I am a State Farm kinda person. As for the video rental place, I prefer the store downtown for the personal attention and hometown feel. Danny ... he's got an amazing wife and family so I cannot imagine having anything negative to say about the man.
I debated for several minutes about commenting on this topic and have decided to do so. Some of the remarks are quite silly and I will just leave those alone and will try to put a positive spin on things. Building and developing restaurant space was a conscious decision made a long time ago. My thinking was to rent to restaurants because people had to eat and that these tenants would be more recession proof than other ventures. I still think I was mostly right. I won't offer any public speculation as to why the previous tenants decided to leave out of respect for them and their families but instead I would like to commend them or providing high quality products and services to all of us. They all worked very hard and are all really good people. To the staff writer who calls our center "troubled", let me assure you that you are wrong. With the exception of one space, we are full and excited about the future. Thanks to everyone who supports Barnesville's restaurants and small businesses. We truly appreciate the opportunity to serve this community.
The last time I bothered to go into Past Time Grill ... there was a roach crawling around on the wall to entertain me and the sticky seating was it's usual unclean turn off. Some places are really only there because of their so called foothold into the community.
pizza hut is still open because they serve a good product for a good price.but mainly because of all the pot and meth heads in barnesville and lamar county
Its not President's Obama's fault. This was inherited from the previous admintration. inapt spending on their part. Which trickled down to the now economy.
I know this reply has nothing to do with the topic, but are police cars indestructible? Thought they were just regular cars with regular malfunctions that require maintenance? Didn't know that police agencies couldn't take their cars to a professional mechanic to have fixed. Thanks for pointing out that there is obviously something wrong with a police vehicle being in a car shop.
Not Bush or Cheney. Barack Obama did this? Bad economy. Budget cuts. Job cuts. School cuts. Foreclosure homes. ObamaCare: Anti Cancer. All time. All time. No job? No money? No help. Obama took 2 years to mess...
I wouldnt blame the owners of the shopping center. Some of these were chains that went out of business (Milano's) as an example.
I would think any business that serves food, the factor of risk is part of the business.
I am sorry these business' went under or left the area, I feel certain there will be replacements for each.
Telemarketing is over people! Not only is it intrusive and ineffective, it is so despised that there are now very stiff federal and state laws against it! Not sure what goes through a local businessman's mind when he thinks he should start telemarketing the good people of Barnesville, for pete's sake?
I think D.T. is awesome. Hell, if he didn't build it, they couldn't come. I wish he'd buy the damn pizza hut and shut it down. It's nothing but a thug hangout anyway and the pizza can't even touch American Pie or Slices.
You no they say sellin policies is hard job, but I been knowing Mr. Mc over 15years and what he do is his Allstate business, but how can you sell policy and have folks hatin for it, and as for Booty, he gotta work for what he got to, RayRay is his only life line he has left, cause he lost his teeth, down for time, but Mr. Mc got that big crib now and booty can't even go there!
Ok I'm a transplanted Yankee and have made B'ville my home for the last 6ys. I'll never understand the "closed for business on Sunday" deal. Most people work M-F and only have the weekend which is Saturday AND Sunday to eat out, shop...etc. I never do business in "my town" of Barnesville on Sunday because it's mostly closed for business. So Macon or Griffin get more of my money. I don't like fast food because it's poor quality so eating at MC'Ds, Wendys or any of the other Obese producing dives is not on my menu.
This isn't 1952 anymore and not everybody is bible thumping all day church goer on Sunday. Some of us acutally like to live and enjoy the day on Sunday and stay active before going back to work on Monday.
(Sorry for the rant) The economy sucks, it's worse than last year, people don't have alot of money, and a business or restaurant has to offer something differnt & unique to bring in new customers. Being open all weekend and not selling BBQ, Fried Catfish or Chicken Fingers would be a good start.
'Scuse me sir, but this here's the south. And we'uns from the south don't do no workin' on a Sunday. It's the Lord's day. Now, why don't you go get a little woman to make you up a nice Sunday dinner at home? Or maybe you can put you a piece of meat betwixt two pieces o' loafa bread, with a lil' bit a mayonnaise and mustard. M'kay? Then on Monday, you can go on back t' where whatever heathen land you come from in the first place.
I eat at the shanes in McDonough on a regular basis. Unfortuanetly the Barnesville location had Barnesville employees that help burry it. Service was terrible both times I visited.
the best thing that could happen to the old davis cooper ford place is for that eye sore to be tore down by that dozier behind it that place is a dump and dean davis needs to do something with it and that yellow building to and might as well tear down the roach motel
If you will remember correctly the democraps were running the congress. If you want to blame anyone, go first to Chris Dodd & Barney Frank, then blame the people that overspent. Come on and put the blame where the blame should be.
Yea, listen to "those southern" people - they don't care if there are businesses here because they collect their welfare checks, their food stamps and now their healthcare is taken care of - why do they need businessess? That is why you see all these defensive comments about NObama.
I'm a little disturbed that a transplant voices an opinion here and instead of nicely explaining why businesses here don't open on Sunday, a couple of people tell him to go home.
That's not the Southern hospitality I was taught to expect.
Allow me to apologize for the boorish behaviour of some people who hide behind a keyboard.

If Allstate and Shane's left, YOU KNOW SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THAT LOCATION!!!
Its not just food its movies , cloths store ...I am sure there are more to come..

Team 1 :) K.
Ask Tommy, Ask Walter, Ask your Mama!
Count me in as a State Farm kinda person now, as well.

Why not just go back to wherever you came from?
The Wednesday BS needs to go away also ... there is no market day anymore, sheeeeeez
