During the day the smell is tolerable but in the evenings its horrendous. We can no longer use our deck and sit out in the cooler evenings. I used to sleep with the bedroom window open, now if I do this it smells like a garbage truck is parked next to the bed. With so much open land available I'm surprised that this company chose the site that its on, knowing the problems the smell could cause.
It appears that they were not concerned about the impact that the odor would have on the community. I would guess that they do not have to smell it when they go home. They have robbed us of the enjoyment of our home in the country. We can no longer plan family gatherings or cooking out with friends because we can't be sure of what the odor situation will be. We've had to live with high electric bills because of not being able to live with open windows. We sure hope that this new ruling will have more effect than the previous one!
I would be real nice if this problem could be resolved without Greenco shutting down. They have a great product. I bought a trailor load of their compost and now my garden sucks up water like a spunge. It turned this ole Georgia red clay into black gold.
I don't know how the landfill manages to control odor but I do know that we did not have an odor problem until Greenco came along. We are actually closer to the landfill but that has not been a problem. They can do what ever in the industrial park but they need to keep it there. When that terrible odor permeates the air on our property, it becomes our business to fight it.
#5.0 -- What ever the landfill does to control odors works. It works now and has worked in the past .. at least for the last 5 years that I have lived near the industrial park. I don't know if you are the same person that keeps bringing up a non existing smell coming from the landfill since you are writing under anonymous, but it is time to stop beating that dead horse and quit trying to blame Greenco's odors on the landfill. And just because a business is in an industrial park does not exempt them from being a nuisance or relieve them from complying with the terms of their agreements when they moved into the park.
Well people have too look at it both way's! Right next to greenco company is waste management, that brings in the same kinda food and much more garbage that will put a bad smell in the air from it just sitting there. I think what greenco is doing is very good with the great compost that they sell! And opening job for lamar county.
