In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days.

Snopes is not always the best source to verifiy claims. I'm sure there is an origin of this story other than from the internet. It seems like something a small town southern circuit court judge would say to some dumb ass that wants to remove or be included in a holiday.
No atheist would ever bring such a case to court. If anything, the only case of this sort that could be brought to court would involve the government at any level celebrating the Christian and Jewish holidays. There is no legal standing to bring a case against Christians and Jews for celebrating their own holidays privately--so no, this case never happened.
What happened was that someone made up an off-color, disparaging joke about atheists. I wonder if people who say it's a "good one" would think so if it had targeted Hindus, Shintoists, Muslims, Mormons, or some other group. I think it's insulting.
Quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing that your Bible calls me a fool. So what? Whoever said it (they say David wrote the Psalms) was simply giving believers a way to dismiss people who criticized their beliefs out of hand, because actually engaging them in debate might result in people turning away from faith. People who turn away from faith won't tithe, so the religious leader (or king, if it was David) would receive less revenue. Of course, anyone who would proclaim to be a nonbeliever in a time when it was a certain death sentence might be considered to be a bit foolish--or suicidal.
A person teaching a class to me and my colleagues told this joke to the class and got into trouble for it.
I believe there are more atheists in our community and our nation as a whole than the so called 16% of America. In fact there are alot like myself who simply keep quite, inorder not to be an outcast.
"I wonder if people who say it's a "good one" would think so if it had targeted Hindus, Shintoists, Muslims, Mormons, or some other group"
You said it correctly by calling it a group, or rather they are a religion. You see, all the groups you mention are a religion whereas Christianity is not. Confused?

I believe many who call their self an atheist are really not. Most just reject the conventional understanding of the God concept. If you are talking about the Old Testament God, then I am an atheist. If you are talking about the belief that God is love as taught by Christ in the gospels then were in agreement. The problem with “God is love” is that most people really have no in-depth understanding of what love really is (or is not). He who knows God knows love…..He who does not know love does not know God.
There is so much misinformation circulated on Internet these days it is scary. Completely false things take on a life of their own in chain e-mails or on websites. I especially notice this on technical issues. It used to be that we relied on peer-reviewed textbooks or articles, but now anyone who owns a computer can write anything and pretend to be anything they want to be.
We rely more and more on Internet information for information critical to decisions we make, and much of it is false. Internet does not have the accountability of the printed media.

Anyone with the ability to reason would know this was a joke from the way it was written. It's obvious it was meant to get a laugh. It built the story up and ended with a punchline. Why then does everyone want to make such a big deal over it?
Hell is only for those who think they need it in their life. If God is a God of love ....which I think God is...It then would be impossible for that God to condem what He "created" for using what He "gave" them (free thought)in the first place. Geesh....I wonder if we'll ever get over this fear of God ideology?
ok i have to jump in this conversation if Atheist dont believe in God,Christ, heaven or hell then why do they care if us Christians celebrate our religious holidays? Why do they care if in God we trust is on the money or one nation under God is in our pledge it sounds to me like they(Atheist) are letting something that they say dont exsist bother them a little to much so maybe they should rethink their beliefs. Futhermore to respond the the comments of Louie at 5:56am Hell is for thoes that dont accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior. futhermore God is a God of love but just as you disipline your child when he/she does wrong so that they will grow up the way that you would have them or if you have a schrub in the yard you have to prune the bad/dead branches for it to thrive more and more each year that is the same way that God operates. God sent his son to take our penalty of death and if you dont accept that your going to hell weather you think you need it or not.
I ask all Christians to watch the video about and honestly tell me that everything in the Bible took place or is for real. I now its a Penn and Teller video, but you have to admitt it makes cense.

Be careful throwing around Psalm 14:1, there.
Matthew 5:22: "Whoever saith, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire"
