So in other words, its all a bunch of BS and the bottom line is he done it and there is no consequences for his actions. End of story. Everything else dont matter. He done it, he shouldnt have, he is guilty, he gets off scott free. Awesome. It sounds definatly like the judicial system in this area.
Well said Mr. Waller. How could they no bill this case? Its mind blowing! I would like to hear the reason from the jurors. GS needs to thank his lucky stars that it turned out the way it did. He has shown his true colors time and time again, yet he weasels his way out of trouble. But with people like him, it is always someone else's fault. You think he would quietly walk away and not blame others or better yet not make a spectacle of himself with all his press releases. What a joke!!!
I think the grand jury was so turned off by the politics (on both sides) in this case that they ignored the evidence. Understandably, the politics are nauseating and there is clearly a degree of Buice vs. Waller here. However, none of that negates that Grier Smith admits to taping a grenade to the neck of an inmate. This should have been true billed.
This violent act was a heartless one by someone with a seemingly non-existent conscious. I bet Smith would be up in arms and threatening to sue the whole world if an officer would have done this to him after his arrest. I do not see how in the world this was not true billed seeing as there was a confession. Present it to the GJ again at another date and time Larry. Thank you for your wonderful work Sheriff Waller!! We appreciate your standing up for the rights of these guys who are often mistreated and devalued by society and those in power.
I have served on several GJ and what the GJ is presented is often nothing like what we read and hear "on the street." I have no idea what was presented to the GJ but from all I've read/heard it sounded like it should've been true billed. Just remember that there are always 3 sides to every story...
The timing of this event smells highly of political malfeasance and is another unneeded indication of the character of Waller. Regardless of the actions of the accused, it is interesting that action was taken when it was.
Lamar county made a serious mistake restoring this man to this office. Hopefully that mistake will be corrected next time around.
The Grand Jury is to be congratulated for seeing this for what it was and rendering the correct judgment.
I have been on a grand jury many times in my life. It is to say in
The least a long and very aggravating process. The problem lies in the make up of such a jury.
People should be made to take a IQ test before they can be on a grand jury.
I have never seen so many dumb people in all my life. Some people are not concerned about justice anymore.
Lets see what happens with a local man who just killed his soon to be ex-wife's dogs by placing bee hives next to the dogs. Let's see if this man gets charged with animal cruelty for walking away in a bee suit while his wife's dogs were stung to death.
So since Smith got off The Morehouse Chief should get off. He should just admit that he pulled the gun because they where shooting at the same deer.lol
Lamar County just a good old boy with money town you get off.
You all seem to forget this occurred under the previous admonistration and was pushed aside instead of dealt with as it should have been then. So.......whne one wants to cast stones about administrations they should look at who is living in a glass house. While neither administration could claim perfection, which in politics and law enforcement cannot be attained, at least we know ans attempt is being made now. Sheriff Waller did exactly what he should have done and called in an outside agency. Unlike the prior administration who lollygagged about Smith in the prior grand jury case a very long time trying to do the investigation inhouse. It was the DA's office that called for the GBI investigation on Smith in the financial investigation. I agree with you all. How can one man keep violating the law ans keep getting away with it just becasue he was under the color of law at the time. I love Lamar County but something is really stinking now. There have been other under color of law or a part of the judicial system who who have been indicted and prosecuted in this very county. PAC (Prosecuting Attorney's Counsel) should have been called in to prosecute this case and present it to the Grand Jury. I truly believe that when it is and accusation against someone in the courts or law enforcement whom the DA's office deals with, they too should separate themselves from the case. Just a thought.
""" I truly believe that when it is and accusation against someone in the courts or law enforcement whom the DA's office deals with, they too should separate themselves from the case. Just a thought.""" So true and this goes for this story and the judge story.
No matter how "turned off" they were due to politics, they still should have done their job correctly. And based on the facts and evidence, they clearly screwed up!!!!! Whom ever they jury was composed of should never be allowed to sit on another jury. MORONS!
You are exactly right. The DA should have separated himself from this case. Actually both cases against Smith. Anyone who has been on the Grand Jury knows what happens when the officer presenting the case leaves the room. I will leave it at that , but, one cannot say what happened in this case except the Grand Jurors. I know the GBI would have done a great impartial investigation and would have presented it well to the Grand Jurors. I know what happened that day in the jail and whether or not the grenade was real or not does not matter. It is what the victim though and felt at the time. It not only scared him, but the officers that witnessed it too. Yes Buice should have dealt with it then, but chose not to. And I agree that the DA should have separated himself from both cases involving Smith. Calling in PAC would probably have brought about a different result in both cases. We may never know now. And as for Smith threatening to sue the county, he needs to re-study the law.
Mr. Waller needs to do something about all of his people sexting each other.I walked in the other day to make a complaint and thought I was walking into the "Bunny Ranch".
Plainly Put! The DA is the moron! I have seen him get cases of forgery no billed when the person said in a court of law "I put so and so's name on the petition"IN COURT!!! How does someone admit they did it and then get no billed! Because that part was left out by the DA for a reason!!!!!
Mr. Geiger, Move on with your headlines, people get tired of reading the same thing everyday I'm sure a small town like us has some good news to report.
Yeah, yeah. Waller bragged hard about his defeat of numerous frivolous (his words) lawsuits from his first term.
Since he no doubt be successful this time as well, perhaps he could cover his legal expenses with his PERSONAL funds to shield the taxpayers from his little mistake here?
Greer paid for all those weird ads to help Waller reelected and look where it got him. Hanging around Market Street and the unsavory characters there didn't help him like he thought either. Once done using him everyone dumped him.

Thank you for all that you do Larry!
Indeed!
We should also thank God that the office of sheriff is an elected position and we can vote for the person of our choice.

Now, what about the Pippins and the dog?

Better still, resign as requested.
I'm not waiting for either to happen.
