Gordon College has notified homeowners near property it acquired off Collier Road several years ago that it plans to cut timber there beginning this month.

They effectively made the walking area of the sidewalk much narrower at a huge cost to taxpayers. Whoever planned and approved that project ought to be fired.
Now I have to walk in the middle of the sidewalk so I don't fall over the big green utility boxes or scrape my arm on that brick wall.
Anyone know who's bright idea that project was? What a waste of money.
Gordon is showing alot of growth, I hope more of their majors will be able to offer a four year degree. I think this is one of the big benefits to Barnesville.
We dont always agree with the decisions made, but the overall picture is very bright, in my opinion.
I think the advances in and around Gordon are a great opportunity for Barnesville. The school and the student body represent a revenue we haven't seen in a long time here in Barnesville. We, as a city, need to figure out how to continue to appeal to this population as well as appeal to younger families who want a safe, enjoyable place to call home all the while retaining those already here. It is a tough challenge but one I think we are all up for. Change is not always most comfortable and sometimes we can't see what others can, but if we all remain faithful to our community and we all continue to cast visions for what we want Barnesville to be, I think we can look forward to a prosperous future.
I agree, Gordon is great for Barnesville and I sincerely hope that they continue to strive for greater academics, facilities, and expanding their four-year degree programs. I am concerned about what I've seen at the basketball games this year. I have enjoyed the games but the other activities did not reflect highly on the school. If I were a prospective student going to one of the games, I would not be impressed. I'm glad to see Gordon growing and I'm optimistic about their future!
i live in the area. right across from the old golf course. Im just wondering what this is going to do to the property value. Hopefully it will increase. I dont plan on living here forever and if this economy will get back up in the next 2 years i will be outta here about that time.
I do agree that if there was no Gordon college here we would be similar to a dang orchard hill but a little bigger. We definately need more eating places and get rid of a fast food joint or two.. How bout a Ryans or equivalent. What about a CCs pizza. We gotta move up. We have 3 or 4 bbq places but one decent home cooking type place. Something isnt quite right.
My post was the 3:12PM- I live right across from the old golf course, based on your comment I'm assuming you live in the area too, whats your problem with Gordon?
Okay sorry...I agree with a lot of what 5:55AM said, but CC's pizza is not a fast food replacement. It's a damn pizza buffet that is just as bad as a fast food chain maybe worse depending upon which one you eat at. Next time you are there ask them for the nutrition information and they will let you see and then compare it to the fast food places you eat at now and you will be amazed. Keep the CC's where it is.....there enough people that can barely get out of their cars now in this county. It's a damn embarrassment when you get a handcap sign because your too lazy to lose weight. There are a few legit people in town that have medical reasons for weight gain, the rest are just lazy and clean places like CC's and Ryan's up..........Someone needs to go and eat some salads and do some walking.
I don't have a problem with Gordon. I have a problem with wasteful spending of tax money, especially when the wasteful spending makes something worse. Lowering a wall a few inches, moving a sidewalk a few inches so it can't be used as well as the original position is wasteful spending. Educating students and improving re expanding courses is wise spending of tax dollars.
Okay, I agree with that. The lowering of the wall and the moving of the sidewalk a few inches is ridiculous and a huge waste of money. I am also tired of government handouts that reward laziness.I just heard that there are now cell phones that are available for free to those on welfare. Thats our taxes at waste.

Waste is waste, even if 1% does trickle down we still should watch this wasteful spending for nothing.
