This should be done every other month. Concerts like this are great for the city and give us something to do here. I get so tired of having to drive to Atlanta or Macon to go hear a good band play.
All the acts were great. Have heard Ben Ratliff Band several times and have never been disappointed.
I think its a shame that this crap was going on at 10 minutes til 11 oclock. The city needs to move this event out to the fairgrounds or something. The noise was extremely loud coming from the ritz park. I think its very inconsiderate for them to hold a function like this at all hours of the night. If they do have another event like this uptown they need to cut it off at 9:30pm. There is no reason what so ever to disturb the surrounding neighborhoods by this crap late at night. Im sure the big wigs from Thomaston st was up there with their golf cars and their beer and liquor enjoying it but if this was a rap concert they would be raising cain at the next city hall meeting and it would be over.
You got real talent! Take a look at local Hunter Price, his disc messed up and he had to sing without backup music!

The concert was GREAT and the crowd was too! Great event gives the people on Barnesville something to enjoy!!! And know I don't live on Thomaston St. I live in the country. At least this was MUSIC unlike some people riding around with their radios blaring NOISE!!!!
quit disturbing the peace after hours. There should be an earlier cutt off. I pay too much money for my house to just leave one night because of a a bunch of inconsiderate idiots that was condoned by the chamber of commerce perform music at 11 oclock at night. Children and adults go to bed at a decent time and go to Church the next morning. Im sure some of you were still at Church this morning anyway reaking of alcohol but reguardless others shouldnt have to suffer the affects of it. They need to start earlier next year and end earlier or either move the location. How do they even get past any city ordinances with this. I know how. Its the select few people that have a little bit of status and money here stands behind it and promotes the event and every other rule gets swept under the rug.
Marilyn Price, I dont think that comment was about race. I live on Moye st. This was a disturbance for me and my family also. The cut off time needs to be earlier or move it out in the country. So are you basically saying that either we participate in the event or either be disturbed while trying to sleep? That is very inconsiderate of anyone to think that way. From what I could hear of the event, the music sounded good. However there is a time and place for all things. 11 oclock was too late.
I think the comment by #5 was right about the rap concert. That would have been a one time deal and it wouldnt have happened anymore especially at 11pm and for the record, I'm not black. Im not a party pooper and I'm glad that the city is allowing different events to go on so that the community will have different things to do but the time at night is the issue, not the event!
I realized as soon as that little thing was built by the post office that there would be problems. It's too close to peoples' houses to not be a hindrance. Although the music was tasteful, it did go on rather late and was extremely loud. I live in Founders Grove and heard every word sang clear as a bell. I'm quite sure people would complain if they were able to hear me singing in the shower 2-3 miles away, day or night. Come on folks. You've got to consider your sick, elderly, etc. Listen to your tax payers and turn it down and cut it off earlier. Thanks.
If you got a problem with the summer sizzle wait til this saturday. It is the heritage festival, come join the fun at the ritz park from 2-10, a parade at 4. drinkning and car thumping on mill street. Lets get crunk! so police officers sure are making a killing for overtime----i wonder if this will affect my taxes! Barnesville seems to have an event every week.
If you live in the city your always going to have noise at 11 o'clock. And I do believe that the city ordinance for disturbing the peace is normally 11 pm on a Saturday night. If the noise is such a problem for you maybe you should think of moving to the country so you can enjoy the peaceful sounds of the frogs and crickets all night. The city need to have more events like this one. It's good for the city and its residents to have something to do. You sound like the same people that complain about the noise coming from the football field on Friday nights when we are trying to support our kids!
Sounds like a lot of " party animals " that are trying to sleep at 11:00 on Saturday night. Sounds to me like if it had been something you liked, it was o.k.. If you didn't like it, you wanted it stopped. I sure am glad I live out in the country so I can listen to my music anytime and as loud as I want whether it is country, rock, blues or rap. Come on people, this is not Mayberry or 1960, Or is it? Yep, thats what I'm gonna do. Go over to my girls, get a bottle of pop, and listen to a little music.
It is shameful to me that people spend their days and nights complaining.
May I remind you that people are out there fighting for our country, putting their lives on the line every day for you and you are complaining over noise.
Try this: When you wake up tomorrow, tell yourself this- "Today I will make a concerted effort not to complain for one full day."
Then follow up on it.
Part of living in a community is activity, noise, some inconvenience, and many conveniences. Sorry that this little concert was one of the negatives in your life.
I live in the city. One block from Thomaston St. I didn't hear a thing. Maybe I would have had I ventured outside but I was able to watch television AND sleep undisturbed. Now I do have a complaint about the noise and speeding of cars coming from the Nest headed to Huddle House at 2 am on Thursdays and Saturdays. Not against anyone having a good time at the club but leave it at the club, slow down your box Chevys and please turn down the thump. Thanks.
Yeah it would be great for the city, if the city was making amoney off of it. I doubt much was made. We are in a recession people. Last I heard the city was having budget issues, but I guess not. The only people making out are the police and city workers that are getting paid overtime. They will get paid overtime again this weekend because of the heritage festival and in September for Buggy Days. Why dont the city bring in beer tents for those events? Or better yet, why does Kenny Roberts keep allowing junk like this to happen? Seems to me, that he needs to allow the PD to hire more officers before all of the air conditioners in Barnesville are gutted for the copper.
I know its all in fun and gives people something to do. Im all for that if it is benefiting the city!!! Im tired of my taxes going up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a new one to me. I always thought it was 10 oclock. I know that people that ride around with loud speakers can get a ticket no matter what time of the day it is because it produces a certain level of noise which is being pushed by an amplifier. Isnt this the same thing. Speakers + amplifiers + microphone = loud noise
What is the difference? I'll tell you. The big wigs from Thomaston st and others were in on this so they chose to let things go as they wish. I have a DJ set up that has about 12k watts. How long do you think it would take Freddy, Mark or any of the other city police to be here at my house pointing the tazer at me telling me to cut it off. What is the difference? People do what they want to do when they want to do it if they have a certain status. If it was something that they was against they would make sure it had restrictions and limitations on it.
11 oclock is too late for this to be going on. End of discussion. We arent complaining about the event. The time is the issue. If my neighbors was partying with blaring music I promise you I would call the S.O about it. They would come and tell them to cut that crap down. You would do the same if someone was having a block party in your neighborhood.
Which sentence did I write that would lead you to believe that if it was something that I liked it would have been ok? That is fine to have an event up there for the community. I really dont care to participate in it, but they need to wrap it up earlier next time. The only thing I participate in is softball and fishing. I know we could never be a disturbance at the softball field at night because we cant get the lights turned on. That is another issue that needs to be addressed another day.
Why do all the churches have to start singing those hymns so early in the morning? seems like they would pick a decent time to start with all that ruckus...
This was an event sponsered by the chamber of commerce and approved by city hall. So why is it that it is the pd or so fault? Im sure they didnt want to work on a saturday, that one or the one coming up. As for my taxes, i think the event organizers should pay for security. This was the dream of mayor bell and he wanted the ritz park to be a park for music and the community. I wish the heritage festival much success. I was disppointed last year because nothing was goinga on at the park it was just alot of drinking on mill st
Thats all it ever is...drinking on mill street. People from all over come just to ride their cars down mill steet and cause traffic jams. It is never organized. Wonder what the parade will consist of this year. Maybe it will have more than just dancing mimes. Anyway, Im not complaining about them having a festival, im complaining about my tax dollars being wasted. How does this event make money for the city? I know its cost the city to pay overtime to police and to the city workers that have to clean up all the mess.
I've never understood why people are always hating on Thomaston street residence. Its just another street in the city limits with a few nice houses. How did they have anything to do with the concert, its a chamber event?
It would take about 2-3 years for a barnesville cop to show up at your house and point a tazer at you considering they don't have any tazers. The ignorance in barnesville never stops amazing me.
Ohhhh we have a smart ass on our hands here. Lets not be so technical. You fully understand the point that is trying to be shown. This is your only line of defense because you are on one side of the issue and we are on the other. Keep the event, close up shop earlier. Its very simple.
I understand the poster stating that a Barnesville cop would show up at a house, because the music is too loud, and randomly pull a tazer (which they don't have) on the owner of the home until they turn the music down. Did I read it wrong or something?
I live in Founder's Grove and heard it. I even had a difficult time going to sleep because of it but, like all things, it passed and I survived. I'm not personally complaining because I enjoy a good time as much as the next person does, but I can understand how people living closer to the festivities would have felt.
No you didnt read it wrong. You are trying to be a smart ass and use the "taser" thought literally. Substitute taser with gun or baton or whatever. The point is they will demand you cut it off or else. I cant keep up with who has tasers and who dont. Who has "assault weapons" in their trunk and who dont. Who has dogs and who dont. You get the point that I'm trying to make but want to be difficult about it. I dont know if some police have them or if none of them do. See if Walter will let me go edit that and replace "taser" with "weapon" so you can be pleased.
Again with the Thomaston Street comments, really???? Get over yourself I don't live on Thomaston Street and yet I was up there on my golf cart and I also live close enough to hear the music. But you don't hear me complaining.... Maybe next time come off the hip and pay your $5 dollars to have a little fun and enjoy yourself. Maybe then you won't complain like you are neighbor!
Look at who makes up the chamber...yep, them and all of their thomaston buddies need excuses to get drunk and party.....Are the event Staff allowed to drink at these chamber functions?????????????????????????
I would like to see all the city leaders, especially KR out enjoying the heritage festival this weekend. Maybe stick around after it gets dark. Since it has been approved by the city, at least come out and see what goes on.............that will never happen!
Griffin! There is no way in the world i would ever live in Griffin. The only thing good that ever came out of Griffin in 19/41 and its rough as hell. That place is meth and gangster central. Too much trailer trash up there. I dont even go to Walmart in griffin anymore.
If you refuse to comply with the instructions they are giving you there are consequences that you must face. They arent gonna write you a ticket and walk away with the music going. You will turn it off or be taken into custody.
Trailer park trash Rules! You can get anything in trailer parks! The doctors in Griffin would not have jobs if not for trailer park trash. Griffin is "Great And Growing"!
#20--u got problem with the box chevy or the BLACK man driving it? take yo country 'A' to the country and let us handel bville. we got dis as u will c this weekend boiii !!!!!
What's the deal with all these box chevy's around here anyway? It's like wearing a neon sign that says, "Yoo-hoo. Over here! I'm a drug dealer." I could not be a cop in this town. I'd be suspended every week for excessive use of force on these punks.
u obviosly white HAG so dont worry bout it! come on down mill st wit that! an u think drug dealers are stupid but guess what they dont pay taxes! who stupid now?
Everyone is complaining about the summer sizzle yet this past weekend all I heard was REALLY loud music and motorcycles so loud it sounded like a chainsaw. To me that was more of a pain than the summer sizzle. But hey who am I to say anything. Oh and fyi this is NOT a race comment......

Thank you Chamber for this event.

So your comment/complaint in the end was just about race not noise. That's a shame!

The whole dozen or so acted well.

I hope not, I have never been more ashamed to call Barnesville my hometown after viewing it.
I will definately not be going to Barnesville anytime during this.
