Isn't it funny how the millage rate will be revisited AFTER the election? Seems its that way for a lot of counties, Butts included. And the grapevine says that Gov. Perdue will call a special session of the General Assembly AFTER todays elections, and for the same reasons, to revisit the budget a make some more cuts.

Yeah that's what non property owners would say. We are tired of tax. We're on the edge of a massive tax revolt. Government seems to be the only bunch of idiots borrowing their way out of debt and making the people pay for it. The people are getting fed up. 200.00 a month just to own a simple little place is out of control.
I don't think you own numerous homes because sane people don't vote for taxes that NEVER - EVER - EVER - NEVER go away. Let government collect 1000.00 a year from renters and give an incentive to go out and buy a home. There! Shortfall help and housing slump assisted.
Why is it always down to raising the millage rate? Start cutting county employees raises and let them take a furlow pay cut. Some people are having enough trouble as it is paying property taxes and all you hear is..it is happening to everyone. B S
Very Interesting that they would decide this right after elections! Revenue shortfalls for Lamar and every other County/State is not a breaking news story. So why didn't our Commissioners see far enough in the future to take corrective action sooner? I can tell you why...they don't have vision! They manage our County by the seat of their pants. They were borrowing money early this year...the timing of this right after elections is wrong.
Now remember back in January they got a line of credit for an extreme high amount and all budgets just went into effect on Jan 1. Now think about this line of credit in mid January and you just started a new budget year that means you are completely a whole year behind now. Also, if a millage is not done by Aug. 1, then you have a penalty with the state which means more money to pay out for not making the deadline. Oh yeah and renters do pay taxes when they pay rent it is included in the payment every month.
Save the money. Nancy Thrash and Jimmy Hearn said not fire department and not sheriff. Need to hire more officers and firefighters. I'm not sure? I think we could cut the paid sheriff jobs or Cut animal control officers and public works?
I am not that poster but you can damn well pay mine and I won't feel bad about it at all.
It is time to stop punishing people that are lucky enough to hang on to what they have or paying for. Only sales tax is a fair tax--- everybody pays.
The largest tax increase in the history of our country is comming at the first of the year, complements of Obama care, coupled with the increase in property taxes will cost a lot of us dearly. Those of us that are on fixed income watch more money going out and no increase in money comming in.
It is a historical fact that if taxes are cut the gov. has more money that comes in,simply because the people have more money to spend in the economy which in turn businesses will hire more people to keep up.
Every one that is hot about lay offs have a little energy and research it.
We need to flood the meeting Thursday to let the commissioners know the property owners are fed up!!!!!!!
Attn all Commissioners: Please do whatever you can to NOT raise our millage. I try really hard not to live beyond my means. It would be nice if we could keep our LC expenses reasonable.
I don't know much about the Old Jail Museum or it's staff, but I see that as a more of a luxury than a necessity. We could cut out that budget entirely or at least only open it part-time or for limited months of the year. I think it's nice to have it, but seriously, we're in a huge recession. We've got to cut back on spending before our county employees have to be furloughed or laid off.
Also, the SO needs to realize that citizens are watching them. If i'm doing 55 (yes speeding in a 45)in front of Wendy's and a SO patrol car blows by me at every bit of 90 with no lights on. I don't expect to see the same car at Flash Foods a minute later with a deputy getting his free coffee. It's immature, irresponsible, dangerous and a waste of gas. I would like to see these officers receive disciplinary action for actions like this. If a citizen reports the car and time (and maybe a video) to a commissioner, can we take, I don't know, maybe 5% pay from the officer for maybe 6 months or so? Just an idea.
P.S. This is free advice from a concerned citizen.
Need to hire more officers and firefighters. Please cut Old jail museum, Service center, Senior center, Public health, Dfacs, Uga Extension, Conservation admin, Recreation and ag arena, public works, and Emergency Manage jobs.
One thing I really would like to know is, is it true sheriff deputies are assign a car and that car goes home with them? Now if this were so and someone lived, say, is Kathleen, and others lived outside of county, how much "extra" will the dept have to pay in gas, insusrance, maintaince, tires etc: in order to get just one deputy to work and back home? I don't care what job you have, to have a county pay your expenses to get to work and back home is pretty darn fine in my book.
I would bet the county pays over $80,000 on these shenanigans , that is if my question to everyone is tied to facts. Do I have a challenge on this.
Set my head straight. I'd like to know.
Take your millage rate hike and shove it.

Walter, you should be able to find out that info.
