Until early last week, Shirley Sherrod was a little-known public service executive, serving as head of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Athens-based Rural Development Office.

Fox news reported that after this lady had already been fired. To me if anyone reacted too fast, it was the white house and her supervisor. Frankly, I wonder how many white farmers were hurt by this woman, before she realized it was more about the "haves and have nots."

I would like to see an article about the black panthers calling for the death of white people and blocking voters from polling places.

Racism is two sided!!!!

What happened to this lady is a shame. A lot of people judged her before checking the full speech she made. And yes, we are guilty of putting to much trust into sound-bites or news organizations without digging for the truth. We all have something to learn from this. Think of the anonymous slander on this "news" blog alone. Often it is believed and can have terrible results for those victims. I challenge Walter to be a responsible citizen and bring an end to this practice. He is smart enough to not put such lies in his printed paper, for he knows there would be law suits that he would loose. He would quickly be put out of business. As long as it is you or me being hurt, he doesn't mind at all. Show us what you are made of Walter. I think I already know.

This story sums up how far racism has evolved in America. We are all use to this happening to a white politician who is caught saying something racially sensitive about a black person. With this story, it's the first time I can ever recall a black government official being asked to step down for disparaging remarks toward a white person. The irony.

It’s always been about the haves and have nots. The poor white man is too naïve to know that their rich white brother is using their uneducated ignorance against them to insure the rich man’s self interest. Subterfuge has been the major tool to assure the divide between classes for thousands of years. Can you say GOP and FOX? When I look at the poltical mindset of Georgia I think "God help us!"

That free speech thing getting you down Ms. Hill? The world not shaping up to be that tolerant utopia you think we need?

Tough! People remain what they are regardless of how deceived you may decide to be. Attempting to suppress free expression into something you have decided is acceptable is disingenuous at best.

This blog is an excellent outlet for local citizens to freely express their opinions about local events and individuals in the public arena. The anonymous feature allows for free expression in the purest form. The fact you don't approve is irrelevant. You are not being forced to read any of the comments.

WG’s sensitivity to some issues has already been tested. I don’t think he is biased. He allows people to speak their mind and allows a little free speech pot stirring to keep the comments moving. Lots of people stir the pot even by making comments that they really don’t believe or want to be attached to. That’s why so many people on here are named Anonymous.

Fox news commentator Bill O'Reilly said Sherrod should be fired BEFORE her firing!
However, Bill at least had the decency to apologize after he found out the facts, whereas, the others blamed the Whitehouse and her boss, rather than Breitbart the real villian and source of this mis-information.
Kudos to the decent white couple she referenced in that speech that were the first to defend her by saying how much she helped them and should be given her job back.
It's a shame what Mrs Sherrod have endured, her reputation besmurched and career nearly detroyed by her speech being taken out of context to make her look like a racist in order to embarassment the White House.
The opportunist Breitbart and others cared not about destroying Mrs Sherrod and her career as a means to further their own financial and political gain. The real racist are those that defend the actions of Breitbart and Fox news, rather than denouce them.
I personally hope she sue Breitbart for slander!

O'Reilly said she should be fired on his show at 8:30pm. she was fired at 5:00pm that day.

Sue for what? Bill O' Reilly reported on this three and a half hours after she was fired. NAACP also said she should be fired... Should she sue them too?

OK Howard, sorry I mean Dean, you have a right to your opinion. Other people have a right to their opinion. It doesn’t make any difference who or where they work. Just because something is offered as a personal opinion doesn't mean the company they work for shares the same opinion. You, I, and everybody else have formed personal opinions about something and some of our opinions have been proven wrong. It doesn’t make any difference. Also for this lady to even entertain the thought of discriminatory practice is improper in the position she was holding yet she began her rant with a description of those thoughts. Because the idea was even thought about means that she may have tried to abide by the law but deep down you can bet she still held to some of her original thoughts. It is impossible to erase the idea all together so in actuality that farmer still didn't get all the help she was capable of delivering. the passion just wasn't there. Those are words she admitted her self. Any doctor that studies emotions will tell you that your very first expression of thought is the most real. But most people can't see past their nose are easily deceived anyway.

My point was Bill O'Reilly at least had the decency to apologize whereas the others at FOX did not. True, the NAACP did thrash her, but they also publicly apologized as did her boss and the White House.
We all make mistakes, but we should be as eager to correct them as we are to jump on those of others.
