An estimated 5000 students are on campus today as Gordon College kicks off fall semester.
The first day did not pass without incident, however.
Emergency personnel attend to two of the three victims in Monday's crash.

"My baby went to college!" Their daddy would so proud if I knew which one he was.
However, I cannot be silent while someone criticizes our nursing graduates. Once again last year, 100% of our graduating nursing students passed the state exam on the first attempt. This is an amazing accomplishment. I would be thrilled to see a Gordon College nursing graduate in change of my care if I were in the hospital. I would know that I received the very best care possible.
I am a Gordon College professor, and Barnesville resident. If you are a Barnesville resident around the college, and would like to see the great improvements we are making on campus, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be pleased to take you on a tour around campus on my own time. I am very proud of the changes that have happened to Gordon (and Barnesville) in the 12+ years I have been here.
I do not write here as any kind of official Gordon statement, but only to express my own thoughts about the issue. I hope that those of you honestly concerned will not hesitate to take my offer.
Sincerely,
Theresa Stanley (Biology)
As for the college supporting community, I think you are exaggerating. This town will function just the same as always. I think everyone sighs with relief when school is out.
Gordon is just one step up from a Technical School.
You are correct. I am a republican. I understand work ethic and working for what you have. I do not take handouts. I am against BIG government. As a Democrat, you believe just the opposite correct? You love entitlement programs. You are not worried about the debt, or how the debt will effect our childrens children. You probably believe that a majority of American hate Obama just because he is black....got to throw the race card in there.
You are bad. Calling it like you see it is not politically correct in these culturally diverse times.
Especially when it is true.
A war is coming the likes of which the world has never seen.
house--not school and not the grocery store....
Please do something good put on some clothes!
The system is screwed up, but you can't blame Gordon. The quality folk don't want to go there because of what you see on the outside.
Now, come on you politically correct do-gooders and call my comment racist even though I didn't say one word about color.
As such, the enrollment growth over the last two years has not been a result of lowering the admissions standards. Many speculate that this growth is due to there being a significant decrease in employment opportunities in the recent "down" economy.
For all those who are saying such hateful things about Gordon's standards, Gordon caters to a wide variety of academic levels from learnig support to Honors. I happen to be taking Honors Western Civilization and am loving it. I think it's great that if you want to attend college but did poorly and need extra help.
What's the purpose of going to college? To learn, some go just for fun but most go so they can join the workforce.
What's the purpose of hiring? To get the job done well. To do this, you hire the best and if an employer has 2 applicants for one job, say both "students" have done exceptionally well in college. They both have great references, one went to Gordon, on went to UGA....you can bet your next weeks paycheck that the UGA graduate will be the one hired.
Employers want the best minds, the best workers, and that "piece of paper" shows who went to the best colleges. It's more than a piece of paper, that degree represents many things that employers are looking for.
But of course a degree from Gordon is most certainly better than no degree at all, or definately better than something from some tech school.
But Gordon does not represent the "best minds", because just about anyone can get admitted lol.
