Lamar County’s unemployment was 12.4% in July, down from 13.3% in June. It topped out at 15.6% in July 2009.

Just another reason to get rid of the people whose job it is to bring jobs to Lamar county. They are not doing what they were hired for. Why not do away with the taxpayers burden a little more and save that money. They probably make a good salary too. Give their job to someone who will work for minimum wages. They cant do any worse than these clowns.

If you owned a business that employed a lot of people would you bring it to Lamar County? Most likely not.People who do own a large business and are thiking about relocation,do send people to the areas they are interested in to look around and get a general feeling for the type people who comprise the work force in those general areas.They do this before they contact any representatives of the counties or cities.How do i konw this? Because i was the one who did this for my company.
Take a stroll through Barnesville sometime.Go to Ingles,the College,through the various stores down town,across the tracks and throughout the county.look around,read the papers,turn on a police scanner on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sunday afternoon.What do you see what do you hear?How do people react to each other on the street,in the stores? What are they saying to each other?
Would you risk starting a business in Lamar county?

Yeah, in fact he hasn't even been in office two years. He has been playing golf, flying around kissing terrorist butts for 1.7 of those years. But at least he learned how to properly "Bow." If he can just find the right tutu and learn ballet...his lifetime of security guards that we pay for will have an entertaining future. I'll bet they are tired of being his caddy anyway.

The Lamar County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting this Thursday, September 2, on the second floor of the Administration Building. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed ambulance fee, fire fee and sheriffs fee.

No cut sheriffs, fire and ems service. New sheriffs, fire and ems. New fire headquarters. No new taxes. No millage.

Next week. The 2011 budget. Cut services and employment. Cut the transportation, office workers, officials, 4-H, animal control officer, Teachers, School nurses, Teacher training, Nutrition, Custodial, Central office, Coach, Public Service Leadership Academy, Secretary, Sports, Bus driver, Law enforcement explorer, and public worker, Industrial Development Authority, Solid Waste Authority, Water Authority, Emergency Management Agency, senior buses, combine the Recreation and Senior Center Departments, extension office, health department.

Wake up Lamar---Look up the --> IDA Cost and Benefit----One person Payroll and benefits for 2009 was $100,000 thats right. Now thats not right ---Its your tax money

Do you really think "W" had leadership experience? If I had a choice of two years of Pres. Obama or eight more years of the leadership style of Pres. W Bush it would be an easy choice....Obama anytime.

Who is the IDA anyway? Where is this office located and what do they do all day? If I get a business to come here, can I get his job? I will even be nice to Sheila. And won't talk bad about Obama on Sundays.

I thought there was a great tax break for companies that would bring in work to low economic counties? Someone is sleeping on the job. Maybe Lamar county officials should take a class from Henry county on how to bring in businesses. It can't hurt... Has anyone thought of a movie studio, they did it in Colquit Georgia.

There is so much waste, Andrews riding around in the gas guzzler, party time in Chapple Mill, do we need an emergency management or these boards that get paid per meeting?

Now on to jobs..there are jobs, usually at grocery stores, convenience stores or Wal-mart, they don't pay a lot, and you may have to drive a few miles but it is not my responsibility to keep you and yours in food, clothing and other needs if you are able bodied. I'm sorry if you or your children may go hungry and your cable gets cut off but sometimes experience is the best teacher. I went to work at age 15 so I could have things my family could not provide, I am now in my 60s still working and enjoy every day.

George W. Bush spent a little less than 5 trillion during his presidency including the 800 billion stimulus bill he got through before he left office. That is 7 years of war waged against the US from other areas. Barak Hussein Obama has spent 3 trillion in 20 months in which a lot of it was to stimulate the economy. We have lost 1.5 million jobs afer his stimulus bill. OH wait. He did create 400,000 jobs.. Nope nevermind. Those are census workers. He/his cabinet has blown the money and it has not dont jack shit for this country. They have wasted the tax payers money on junk that doesnt amount to a hill of beans.

IDA---Industrial Development Authority of Lamar ---Look at how much land they have, and pay No tax ! and look who is on the board of this authority----Just ask what they do for one person to make $100,000 in payroll @ benefits 2009 ????????

Henry county has the interstate with rail service (Norfolk Southern NOT commuter..lol) And the real estate developers started about 20 years ago with plans to bring industry there. Notice I did not say "the county guvment" in any of that last sentence. For some reason our Government has gotten into the real estate business, developing,building industrial parks. When all the smart developers got out of it because the market was crashing and there was NO money to be made. Private businesses made Henry County what it is, NOT the Henry County Guvment. Are any Lamar Commisioners reading this????

The 800 billion was a no strings attached savings and loan bail out. At the same time cut taxes to the wealthiest 5% of the US.

We DO NOT want what Henry County has become!! Butts, Spalding and Lamar are going to get the flight from that in the next few years.

Put a Wal-mart out by I-75 on hwy 36, exit 201. The county will get the taxes and it would provide some jobs without affecting downtown Barnesville directly.

I think its time for the Lamar County Industrial Development Authority to open up their books and show what they did this past year and how much land they have and no tax on it . Who are the persons that run the IDA in Lamar ???????????

Why indeed?

Why did McDonalds take such grief for their sign in B'ville for spoiling the so called historic neighborhood.

Why did AT&T get denied for their cell phone tower for spoiling the so called historic neighborhood.

Why wasn't the IDA cleaned out completely after the Chinese con man scandal? Every single one of those bright lights should have been shown the door over that.

Meanwhile Thomaston, Griffin, and McDonough are gaining industry and jobs and Barnesville/Lamar stagnates. But hey, we have a college...

...full of lottery funded drug dealers and bright future folk.
