Gretchen Ellerby, the Lamar County commission's former office manager, payroll clerk and human resources director, allegedly gave herself a $5000 per year pay increase without commission approval.
Ellerby, who was suspended without pay August 18, has now been fired.
Gretchen Ellerby

While I have your attention..the next time you see a county road worker, stop and tell them thank you for their service. They probably make the least and do the most.
I think the citizens should have a meeting to look at all of these salaries and send proposed cuts to the commissioners. We can all then sign a petition to amend these salaries as necessary.
I think that we all need to go to the polls when its time to vote and "clean house"!!! In order for this county to prosper we need to elect individuals that truly care about it regardless of race. We need to stop pulling out the race card for everything that happens here. I'm tired, you're tired, we're all tired!!! I can pretty much guarantee that she is the "scapegoat"! The unfortunate thing for her is that she was caught. How many more do you think we are going to catch? Things like this have been going on for years here in Lamar County. It's time that we hold all of our elected officials feet to the fire and find out how our tax dollars are being spent! Someone made a true statement when they said that the county (and city) workers that are doing all the work and are getting paid the least. Mr. Matthews, Mr. Patterson, and everyone else, WE ARE TIRED OF YOUR S*&T!!!!! Citizens of Lamar let's take back our county! Let's get those that don't care about anyone but themselves out of office and replace them with those individuals that really care and want to see this place grow! Like my mother use to always tell me and my sisters "E'nuff is a damn 'nuff!"
Ms. Ellerby should have also given upward monetary adjustments to all the sisters' and brothers' pay checks in Lamar County. They have been severely overworked and grossly underpaid too long. It must STOP!
A long time dedicated civil servant with Ms. Ellerby's enormous job responsibilities needs a salary inline with her counterparts. She took action in order to protect her self-interests because Matthews and his cronies look after themselves and taxpayers be damned.
The fact she might have resorted to 'self help' in awarding herself a well deserved pay raise has no bearing on her being African American.
Nothing at all. This racism must stop!
Amen

NAAAA
You do a better job than whos in there from your office.
1) Use his power to create a position for, we'll call him Fonzie. He gives Fonzie a nice salary (about $30k a year more than necessary for that position). Then Fonzie buys a nice golf cart for $15k and sells it to Mr. Commissioner for $1.00. Fonzie still walks away to the positive and Mr. C is happy. For now.
2) Mr. Commissioner buys a little house in town for $70k. Then he convinces Fonzie that the city or county really needs the house or property for extra parking at the football field or for office space. Then, the house that Mr. C paid $70k for is now sold to the city for $140k. Mr. C just doubled his money. And all that money can buy a lot of votes.
This kind of thing happens all the time, all over the world. Yes, it's disgusting, but unless we the taxpayers have our hands in every receipt book and start asking questions, we're gonna continually be screwed.
A change we can believe in!
Forget General Hospital or Young and the Restless all I have to do is tune into "As Barnesville Turns". Or "The Brazen and The Broke".
This case should be presented to this term of the grand jury. Don't you represent the people of Lamar County?
At least give Richard Milam a chance to win a open and shut case.
I through a party at the rec. for my son's birthday. In attendance was a man who acknowldeged to me was a Free Mason. He told me how he didn't take in the drink but how he drove local folks to Atlanta so they may. Most of the folks mentioned were from the "Thomaston Street Gang".....also FreeMasons.
These are our so called leaders....the folks who head the Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club...the clubs most of us ignore, thinking they are a prestige society who do good.
I have so much more doubt about these clubs and people.
I am praying this weekend whether I should name names..I'm such a newbie...but as me as a newbie knowing this, how come this is not news?
Some join for prestige. Some for business contacts. As you move up in this society, you are told more "secrets".
All one must do is read Albert Pike's writings on FreeMasonry and you will come to find out just how "good" these secret organiztions are.
Yes, I am aware that most of the founding fathers were Masons. But like most organizations, they have been infiltrated by a very dark, sinister cause.
I will never go back to the GP for the simple reason they disply the homophodaic mural of the Masons on their wall...hidden in plain sight.
In his book, Pike explains the symbolism of each degree of FreeMasonry up to the 32nd degree. This book was used here in the south until 1974.
Actually I can quote Pike from the book and he sums his intentions himself.
"Masonry, like all Religions, all the Mysteries, Hermeticism and Alchemy, conceals its secrets from all except the Adepts and Sages, or the Elect, and uses false explanations and misinterpretatons of its symbols to mislead only those who deserve to be misled; to conceal the Truth, which it calls Light, from them, and to draw them away from it. Truth is not for those who are unworthy or unable to receive it, or would pervert it....."
Not only was Pike the leader of FreeMasonry in the South, he was also Grand Master of the Palladium, a satan worshiping occult which was introduced to the inner circle of FreeMasonry.
In short, secret societies that many of our elected belong to, (both locally and nationally) operate in the dark. So, I ask, what is it they are hiding?
Listen closely to speeches given by our so called leaders...phrases such as "New World Order", and a "thousand points of light" are often used by Republicans and Democrats alike. They are all inner circle FreeMason phrases which have been handed down for generations.
I could go on and on. All this information is available to anyone who has the time and/or willingness to just read.
My grandfather was a member (he was also an asshole) and after he died, they sent a flower arrangement and my grandmother said she didn't want anything from those people and took it off the grave and threw it away. She said they liked to pretend they did good but it was all just a cover for the real intentions.
A thief is a thief....
Please Gretchen Ellerby, if you are not guilty of any wrong doing; please demand your day in court. Why should you carry a blemish on your name for the sake of someone else? The people will listen. If you’ve done nothing wrong and you side step the truth then you are no better than those that allowed you to take the fall.
And Sheriff Waller, you are the sheriff. Misuse of tax payer funds is a crime. You have the opportunity to do a complete investigation of this crime. It is your job to investigate possible criminal activity. DO YOUR JOB! You may fall under the commission but you still have the responsibility to prevent criminal activity. If you refuse, you can probably expect this to raise its head at your next election time.
The people want the truth – not a cover-up!
