The Sonic franchise on Veterans Parkway in Barnesville has closed its doors for good.

Good. Maybe someone in Barnesville or out of town will put us a good eating place in here. We dont need any more fast food crap holes. We need something nice like ruby tuesday or equivalent. When people get out of church where do they go? The dang GP. That is pathetic. Ive gave it a try a few times and I just really didnt care for it. Its ok but I mean people flock there like they are handing out 50 dollar bills to everyone.

Did OB's BBQ shut down too? I saw people loading up stuff a few days ago or last week. The few times i have went by there it has said Closed on the door.

Agreed! We need REAL food instead of the crap holes here and the "Country buffet" style foods. And the GP is the best generic food, but gees that price for what you get!! Only go on sunday because no place else.

Yes, O.B.s did shut down. Thank goodness. Lets get a clean, spacious resturant with a good menu with steaks and chicken. Fresh veggies and choices with waitress that really care!

Lighthouse Resturant in Milner is open on sundays. Has country buffet too. Sundays only though.

Just more lost tax revenue. You folks bitch about paying more taxes and applude when business shuts down. With that business also went local jobs. An increase of welfare and unemployment compensation. The IDA collects monthly pay and brings nothing in. Commissioners can't control what they pay their employees and the person they hired to manage the commission responsibilities can't either. About the only thing they are capable of is to spend money and ask for more. How do you spell incompentenance.

My family will really miss Sonic and the happy hour drink specials. I personally thought it served decent food and always had coupons ... unlike almost ALL of the other local grease pits here in Lamar County. We need more variety here and the complainers of what little we have should perhaps move to somewhere else ... just a valid suggestion.

The GP is a disgusting place as far as food and prices. You want an 'after church place' .. open one or eat at home.

The Industrial Development Authority should buy that property and re-model it, then lease it to a fast food franchise. I figure they could buy it for $300K, re-model it for another $150K and sense they would own it, there would not be any property tax on it!!! WIN WIN WIN FOR EVERYONE!!

The Lamar County Board of Commissioners will hold a special called meeting this Thursday, September 2, on the second floor of the Administration Building. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed ambulance fee, fire fee and sheriffs fee. No cut sheriffs, fire and ems service. No new taxes. No millage.

Next week. The 2011 budget. Cut services and employment, Cut the transportation, office workers, officials, 4-H, animal control officer, Teachers, School nurses, Teacher training, Nutrition, Custodial, Central office, Coach, Public Service Leadership Academy, Secretary, Sports, Bus driver, Law enforcement explorer, and public worker, Industrial Development Authority, Solid Waste Authority, Water Authority, Emergency Management Agency, senior buses, combine the Recreation and Senior Center Departments, extension office, health department.

Close it down, sonic drive-in, lamar county emergency management agency, health department, code enforcement, mitch buice, trice funeral home, farmers, childcare, sunny grove assisted living, barnesville scv, gas station, redbone city hall and old jail.

Well, the food was just the left of awful there. No surprise it went away, bad location notwithstanding.

More Lamar unemployment. Aldora is next when ObamaCare kicks in. Then we'll see about what the Industrial Park smells like.

I can' wait for the monthly government mailbox cheese to stop and the welfare zombies hit the road. That is going to be so much fun. That reminds me, need more ammo.

Lamar county has to be the worst county in america, you people dont support any local buisness, everything in barnesville is closing down if a nice place like applebees were to come here they to would soon close there doors. (what a shame) this is a town of tight ass'es and cheap-scapes. who always want something for free

If you don't like the food; don't eat it. Everyone don't share your idea. You are just one voice and you don't hold the keys to the establishment. And yes; I did mean applaud. I would rather make a spelling mistake than to pay more taxes because some people don't like a place of business and think no one else should either.

I love my Barnesville, bought 2.5 acres and moved here from PC in 05.Thats another story.Was like coming home . Home being Tookland Va. in the Appalachia Mtns. Love the SOUTH ..Some people think of me as a YANKEE ,hey lot of ignorant people out there.Anyone remember THE First VA.. Would be great if we could have a Red Lobster ,Carrubas,or Lone Star.But would you support it??Business must must have support to survive ,I love my good eats..and would be there PH WWMC STN MTN.

Regardless of what opens here you will have the same employees. If anything kills a restaurant it will be the service. I recommend anyone planning on opening what you call a "nice" restaurant" bring your own employees from elsewhere or dont be so quick to settle for the first ones that walk through the door when hiring.......BTW, let a Chickfilet open in the same location and look at the difference in customer volume then ask yourself why that is.

Really, an earlier poster hit the nail on the head.
You have to have a good counter and wait staff.
When Jason was managing OB's, you felt welcome when you arrived. The wait staff checked to see if you had everything you needed (like Slices does now) and the service was with a smile.
Big Chic, you need to step it up with your counter help. A smile would be nice, and it's getting to the point that one has to go back to the counter to keep asking for the okra one ordered.
I see that the Rudy's location is back in the works. I'm hopeful.

Bowling is rather old school .... I doubt it would have enough revenue to keep afloat in Barnesville.
