The body of a sign language interpreter who worked with two or three students at Gordon College on a contractual basis was found in a room at Lamar Inn and Suites off Veterans Parkway here just before noon Wednesday.

UPDATE: The woman has been identified by Lamar coroner Jim Smith as Shaunta Olson, 46, of Dunwoody, Ga.

A google search turned this article up under Gordon Georgia, and then after clicking on it and reading, the article stated the Gordon police responded, which after further review, I find out they didn't.

If this was true, then why were the Gordon police department officers (Gordon is a city in Wilkinson county) at the scene of a Barnesville incident?

There is a difference in the city of Gordon, and Gordon college. And accuracy in reporting is important.

But I do agree that it would have been enough to just say that " An as of yet unidentified female" body was found at the motel. Regardless of the color there is a dead person and an investigation underway.

Why would you not automatically connect Gordon police w the Gordon College that is located in Barnesville especially after it stated she was a contract employee of the college. It is crazy that people in this town find it funny and make jokes about this. Someone lost their life and a family has lost their loved one but all you can do is crack jokes about it. I thought raiseing my kids in Lamar was the best thing but to see how people act and it makes me second guess it. It doesnt matter what she was doing at the time of her death, thats her right and to have grown adults act like children and crack jokes is just messed up. Grow up!!! Locals are scared with the unsolved Ann Morgan case, the unsolved Donna Johnson hog-tied case, the unsolved 10 year old girl case. We have a reason to be worried. Especially with the woman being murdered in Griffin. We want information about our safety.

I spoke to Mrs Olson on the evening of her death, in fact was the last to speak to her. While we were chatting on one Skype window, she was talking to her mother on another. She had taken an Ambien earlier, and in fact dozed off while we were talking. From what I have been told since, she was wearing a necklace that she had forgotten to remove before falling sleep. She had also been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, and was supposed to be fitted for a C-PAP mask later this week. Any of those factors could have contributed to her death. I have spent the morning talking to the Barnesville police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, both of whom disavowed and appologised this story, any mention of web cams, autoerotic asphyxiation, or other steamy garbage. The sensationalism and irresponsibility of this story has hurt Mrs. Olson's family, friends, and her standing in the community. She was a woman who gave much to family, friends and community interpreting for deaf and hard-of-hearing people at churches and funerals, usually pro bono, and was the founder and president of many civic organizations. She will be missed by all who knew her, in spite of this newspaper's shameful attempt to make her life a joke in order to sell more papers.

Listen up people!! I know her and most of you on here did NOT!! If you did, none of this foul, vial indecency would be uttered out of your head into print. This woman was amazing. NONE OF US have the facts as yet as there has been no autopsy, so to speculate and even make fun of the loss of life is not only disheartening but downright CRUEL! PLEASE, for the love of humankind itself and for the sake of her family, friends and profession, I beg to stop making these hurtful comments...have you all forgotten that this was a PERSON?? She was a person who I knew as dependable, caring, compassionate about her work and family. If all of these reports are unconfirmed, NONE OF IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT HERE! This is extremely hurtful to her family, friends and colleagues(sp?) and should be withdrawn immediately with an apology sent to them. I am very disappointed with this article.

Here recently a member of Barnesville was killed in a neighboring county. Nothing scandalous, but the comments went negative bringing up things he had done in the past. Walter immediately closed all comments on the story.

Somehow though comments are still being allowed on this topic. No matter what people are saying about the deceased no moderator has taken the steps to stop the hurtful comments. This is just another example of how this site is selective over who they protect and who they don't.

I know nothing of this woman or the circumstances of her death. However, I can't help to think of the family she had and the children she mentored as a sign language teacher. It is amazing to me that this site is continuing to allow such distasteful, hurtful, and disgusting jokes/comments to be made.

Please moderators, simply do your job of "moderating" comments. These comments are more hurtful to family members than you will ever know.

I did not know her either..but I have no doubt that she was a very wonderful woman who had done great things in her life to help others..I'm sure she was loved by many and respected by many also. So "IF" she did happen to die by Autoerotic asphyxiation, why is that looked upon as such a horrible, and/or embarrising thing? I was so amazed @ the fact that the cruel people truly exist at all. Don't you all have no respect for the dead?? I knew her and I know that she wouldn't be capable of this. Polices and crime lab tech should keep their speculations to themselves after the autospy. Its ridiculous how looking at the scene can throw everything out of the proportion and how the hell can a writer not prevent these hurtful comments ? I mean come on be serious here, not everything on the news is accurate despite the fact that it may be perceived as trustworthy source.
