The Herald-Gazette periodically looks into and reports on salaries paid local officials and top managers.

With recent concerns over Lamar County’s budget shortfall, those salary amounts – who makes what – have been on the minds of taxpayers. What follows is the first in a series of reports on those salaries.

And look at the Salaries of the Educators, several over or at 100K per year. Go to the Middle school and look at all the Lexus, Buicks, Tahoes, Lincoln Pickups, and other high priced cars, yet the school system falls short on the minimum state standards.

I find it hard to believe that some of these people only make 3k,4k,5k, 6k a year or 1800 a year etc. No one could live off that kind of money. Why even bother with the position. I wouldnt even waste my time with it and the headache of having it. It makes me wonder what they do to make the money for the lifestyle they live.

Someone posted a website on the previous salary article where you can research the pay of the educators. If you look at it, you will see that only a couple people in the school system make $100,000 per year (and they are the ones that are responsible for running the school system).

I like how you look at their vehicle and think they make too much money. I bet you never stopped to think about whether or not they have a spouse that works, if they have no bills, etc., or if they have managed and invested their money wisely. Maybe they inherited some money or PERHAPS they bought that car used!

OMG. The people making the most money in the LC school system do not drive the best vehicles (to work). Most of the people at the Middle School are women who have husbands with jobs that allow them their luxuries(if that is what you think a decent, safe vehicle is). Not that what they drive is any of your business. I see more people who do not have jobs driving the nicest, newest vehicles and I always wonder how???? Then I remember that I have better things to worry about!!!

Why was lamar fire truck #3 pulled over north of milner while the fireman discussed the merits of a used lawnmower with a gentleman. These are my tax dollars he is wasting. Property owners have had enough.

#3.1 - maybe you should read your Bible, if you are a Christian, you should know that God only requires a tenth of what he blesses His children with, this is an act of obedience to God's word. One Lincoln pick-up. Belongs to Kelsey Harris the son of Dr. & Mrs. E.H. Harris. His parents taught in this school system for over 45 years. I think if they decide to buy gifts for their children they should have that right. By the way what business of it is yours? Do you have excellent credit? Buttals? leave firemen alone? again why was a big red firetruck parked beside the 4 lane while the fireman, not in uniform, was shopping? Was there a fire in the area? I have paid property taxes in this county for 40 years and as a contributing citizen I have a right to comment about the business of this county. Yes the fire dept does a good job responding to wrecks and containing a fire,,I live in the nether regions of Lamar and expect nothing but I will pay $80 for nothing..have a nice day

I agree with comment 12. Perks do add up and some get special perks....like Nancy being the only commissioner with a county laptop and the county pays for her DSL. Interesting.....and just plain wrong. I wonder what other perks we don't know about. We the citizens have a right to know how they are spending our money.

coaches make less per hour than anyone else. most head coaches make between 2500.00 and 7500.00 per year for the sport they coach,asst coaches less. their base salary is the same as any other teacher with the same experience and education. so when you hear about the football coach or a.d. or whoever making 60,000.00-80,000.00 per year it is because he may make 53,000.00 per year for teaching and 7000.00 per year for coaching. the coaches would make more if instead of going to practice they went to mcdonalds. so before you cry about how much coaches make go devote your life to learning a sport and get a whistle and get ready to work 7 days a week and about 70-80 hours aweek.coaches dont coach for the money , they do it because they love it and the kids.its more than showing up on friday night. the salaries that need to be complained about are the supertendent and the asst. supertendents,. i guarntee they dont work half the hours per week the coaches do or have half the postive influence the coaches do on the kids.

i want to know why ms ellerby gets fired for giving herself raise, but at the recreation department the young blonde home schools her kids there on county time the older brunette sits on the computer all day playing solitaire and clipping coupons and the supposed director is no where to be found... word through the grapevine is he's out tending to his ranch on five points road all on county time... isn't that considered stealing too? maybe they need to look into that area and do something about it?

of what Mr. Abbott does. She would have died and went to hell before she notarized a forged document or covered it up.

Yes Sir! When you do not follow the rules in a court of law..IE forge documents used in that court...My Constitutional Right to PROPER DUE PROCESS IN A COURT OF LAW is impeaded! Among other things.. my deprivation of rights of the Constitution are a federal regulation and protected as such.
