Claiming the justice system has failed her family, the sister of murder victim Donna Ogletree Johnson, is pleading with state and federal officials for help in solving the 26-year-old slaying. “We have anxiously stood by and awaited justice from our legal system which has seemingly failed my family and my sister,” Becky Peterman wrote in a letter mailed last week.

I’m sure that this suggestion will be met with skepticism by many. It appears that law enforcement is seeking clues but has avoided or overlooked the possibility of involving a psychic detective. Perhaps someone like Rosemarie Kerr of Dr. Sally Headding should be called. It certainly couldn’t hurt. Believe it or not – some people do have powers that exceed the powers of others.

Dear Becky,

I truly hope they listen to you. It is totally ridiculous the way Donna's case has been treated. It was contaminated from the very beginning, that is the fact that should make it even more important. Instead of acting the authorities fake REACTION to Walter's reactivation of her case. The GBI at least responded to my call. The locals are just lying back waiting on it to once again become quiet. They disgust me. I really hope the ones responsible for Donna's death suffer the same loss that Ed, Miss Beulah and you have suffered. That would not even be justice because they are too cold to have love in their heart for their children and siblings.

I am in awe of Becky's courageousness. I hope she gets the answers she is seeking and that her sister's death was not in vain. I have seen people attacked on this site for simply asking for more information and creating a dialog. Discussion is a good thing, right? I read somewhere on here about how the investigation has been hampered by so many false tips. Was the mansion a false tip as well?

People do not understand that this kinda stuff does happen and people do overlook crime. (CASE IN POINT: GRETCHEN ELLERBY Isn't misuse of taxpayer funds a federal crime??)

People are asking for federal assistance because they are not sure who they can trust around here. Sometimes people do reach out for help and no one wants to deal with it for whatever reason (safety, career, favors, lawsuits etc.) IT HAPPENS!!!

Do not let this cause be distracted by chants of POLITICS! There is a dead, mutilated woman in this whole equation. Donna is a victim of not only this murderer, but a victim of the system that refuses to be pro-active and/or refuses to communicate with it's citizens.

That makes the citizens begin to question more.

If citizens are asking for federal assistance and the locals are resistant, that makes us question even more. Shouldn't they be begging for help?

When people come on forums and begin to threaten others who are discussing these SERIES of murders, THAT REALLY MAKES ME QUESTION.

I will shout that shit to everyone, DO YOU HEAR ME? We are not petty for wanting answers! We are not crazy for wanting answers! You will not win by attacking us. The more you resist our questions, the more we will question. Do we have that right still?

If you have information on this case and you do not feel comfortable talking to local law enforcement, write to the Special Agent in Charge in Atlanta as well. Federal agents are moved around a lot to stem corruption, because obviously, they realize it does happen.

People who shout to the rooftops our government doesn't have corruption is probably involved in some.

THE ONLY WAY FOR EVIL TO WIN IS WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING!!!

Hopefully they wouldn't be able to get your body to the courthouse before the hospital!

Sorry, Sheila. #3 is correct. Donna's body wasn't found earlier this year- that's when the picture of Becky was taken. If anyone unfamiliar with the story reads this, it would help with their understanding.

People are not trying to stop you. This case needs to be heard before the grand jury. No one is saying that there is no corruption. I'm just saying that everyone dealing with this case for the last 26 years cannot all be corrupt. Someone would have stepped up to the plate by now. Can we get the point across with out all of the name calling and pointing fingers at current officials. Trying to accuse them of hiding things is not going to help this case at all. I liked the idea of a petition. We get circulate one in pike and butts county also. Maybe with tons of signatures, Mr. Milam will re-think his position on this case. If not, at least make a public statement as to why it cant be presented to the Grand Jury.

Tolley is still trying to find out what a misplaced modifier is. She thinks that it could have something to do with solving the crime. There was a misplaced modifier in the area 26 years ago? Let's investigate it.....tolley- unfortunately you are making this whole story a joke- what a disservice to Donna.

A petetion would be a great idea! What about everyone showing up at the Fine Arts Center and try to have a peaceful (them state control bodyguards are some big dudes) meeting with Governor Perdue. Maybe he doesnt realize how much people around here want this murder solved. All the negative comments you see on here probably come from someone with something to gain by Donnas murder staying a cold case. But if they are truly as cold hearted as they seem they need to realize these people may still be walking around among us. Unless the Good Lord has already dealt with them they might be on the short end of the stick the next time they are having a bad day. I see nothing wrong with a peaceful gathering and we could ask for his help in seeing if the FBI could look at this case.

that is a great idea...i am going to create a new post under the opinion tab and provide an e-mail for perdue's press secretary.

e-mail them and request that the governor give donna's survivors 30 minutes of his time while he is here. as far as i know, he has not answered her letters.

one text message from the governor to the right person can make all the difference in this case.

Out of the 23 comments posted, I only read 6 that wasn't about grammer or politics. Even by some of the regular posters with "names", who claim to only want justice. Well for people who only want justice, yall sure jump on the political soap box every chance you get.
I have lived here all my life, and that crime changed the way I viewed the world. It changed this community. At first I really thought someone wanted answers, now I see that they are just using this tragedy to only promote their own agenda. Whether it's political or just selling newspapers. If anyone doubts this....just go back and read all comments that had questions with no answers. Decide for yourself if the majority of the comments was about the subject at hand or just political B.S. Then MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND.

I dont think they can say anything new. And that is what they will say. They probably cant comment on an ongoing investigation. Maybe Sheriff Waller or Milam will decide to do just that. Who knows. Personally I would like to hear an update from the GBI. They are the ones actively working and interviewing people. I just dont think anything that any of them say is going to satisfy people. They probably know that too.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I knew Donna & Jimmy and I thought they were happily married. I didn't live with them but I thought they loved each other.
All I know about her death was what I was told.

I went to the funeral and it was covered with law. I don't remember meeting any of the Ogletree family. They were separate.

I don't think Jimmy or Mike Johnson could have done this. From what I saw Jimmy loved her. Mike was just a kid. I'm just saying what I observed.

This is hard on everyone.

I post what happened to me so others will know what to expect from the so called law around here. If you have took note I do call names.

Donna Johnson, Helen Ann Morgan, and Renee Smith never should be forgotten.

Nothing to do with the Johnson case, but I was in court Monday as a witness in a protective order case and saw the travesty that is our judicial system here in Lamar County first hand. The plaintiff proved nothing to have her order signed by the judge. The defense provided a strong case and obviously proved the plaintiff's allegations false. Yet the judge sitting on this case, who hung on every word of the plaintiff and her witnesses' testimony and day dreamed during the defenses case, signed the order anyways. Now we have a man who has to watch his every step and risk a felony charge if he violates the bogus order.

If you were in a room full of people the very same thing would happen. This is conversation in print. The only difference would be that the majority of the Anonymous writers would not speak as freely when face to face with other individuals. I DO WANT JUSTICE FOR DONNA. But like it or not, the Grand Jury should decide if this 26 year old case has sufficient evidence. If Mr. Milam is so very sure that there is insufficient evidence in Donna's case, why does he hesitate to let the Grand Jury confirm his opinion? Will you answer that one question for me.

No that is not what I want. They need to suffer much more than Donna. Why would equal torture be just at all? They are the ones that committed the brutal murder and got by with it for 26 years to date and maybe forever.

As far as the sign-language teacher... If you are into that branch of sex, as she appears to have been, that should have been utopia for her? Wouldn't you think? If it turns out to be murder, I will apologize when they get the evidence to court in a hundred years or so.

I do not have an answer to your question. I have said in the past that the case file should be opened to the public. (unless they are ACTIVELY investigating it) Which it appears they are not. IF the authorities are investigating, a little update every now and then would be nice. I just do not see how releasing information on a 26 year old case would jeopardize it. Releasing information could only help this case. Maybe that would jar someone's memory.
My previous post was only to point out how many of you choose to argue with the Anonymous posters over silly crap and voice political opinions that wasn't directly connected to the case. Now I will agree that the situation with the D.A is and for good reason become political. If the man doesn't want to do his job, we should oblige him at the next election. I would even sign a recall petition if someone started it.

Perhaps you should go back and re-read what you originally said...You didn't suggest that the killer(s) suffer the same fate of Donna, you wished they "suffer the same loss that Ed, Miss Beulah and you" (Ms.Becky Peterman, to whom you addressed your message) "have suffered"...And now, it would seem, another innocent person(s) who just happened to be related to the killer(s) should "suffer much more than Donna" in your opinion?

..And I wholeheartedly agree...What happened to Ms Johnson was a travesty and unacceptable...Therefore, instigating, wishing and calling for the same to happen to another innocent person so that the guilty party(ies) suffer is tantamount to evil...Hence my previous posts on the subject...It's nothing more than calling to task unacceptable behavior...something that should have happened to the killer(s) of Ms Johnson years ago....I would wish that if the killer(s) had voiced their plans regarding Ms Johnson, prior to the act, someone would have stepped up to say 'NO, that is unacceptable !'...It's the human, and humane, thing to do, don't you think?....

i understood what you were getting at... but i think you read more into her comment than she intended (possibly in order to upset her). i know that how she wrote it stated that she wanted the murderer(s) to suffer like the victim's family did but, i really don't think that's what she meant. i have a feeling she meant that she would want him/her/them (the murder(s)) to suffer like Donna did.

did she state it badly? yes, i believe she did... but i'm fairly certain what i stated before was what she was getting at.

now, if i could address the troll comment i made. according to google a troll is someone who posts something in an online forum such as a chat room, blog, or any other open thread that is off topic in order to get an emotional response. that is what you did. i have no doubt that because of how vocal this woman is on this site... people can't stand to see her posts (i see it constantly in fact). with that in mind, people often take what she says and twist it only slightly or over analyse it in order to make her look foolish (or more foolish, depending on whether or not you're a fan).. thats off topic... or considered trolling.

during this series of articles, sheila has made it a point to support the efforts of the people investigating this murder that has gone unsolved for 26 years. i think that should count for something. she wants justice to be served for Donna.. just like the majority of the people that frequent this site and comment on these articles. thats what matters right now.. in this blog.

all i'm saying is lets discuss the facts of the situation and not have such ridiculous banter in order to get each other riled up. the killer(s) are still out there living their lives while Donna is not. that is not ok... and thats the point. we really need to attempt to keep how we feel about each other in check when a topic like this one is on the table.

What did the defense prove? Besides, he's no stranger to committing felonies is he? He's already a convicted felon. Maybe the judge took a look at his track record. It's not as if this Is the first time he's been violent or behaved in a dangerous manner, far from the first time.

You've obviously never sat in the courtroom on any of Judge Fears court dates. He is far from biased. He has torn into law enforcement before, just as he has torn into attorneys, plaintiffs, defendants and witnesses. That statement is beyond far fetched. Maybe you should go sit in the courtroom while Judge Fears hears some cases one day and watch how he never shows bias. He seems to really care less 'who is who'. Maybe your real problem is that you feel like you are "somebody" and he didn't care! Welcome to the real world of honest judicial proceedings.

Ms Peterman, I realize that the last thing you want is yet another nosey person asking for information, but I think this would make a good story in book form. I have the credentials; police officer with a large metro department, deputy sheriff, environmental investigator, published author, hold a PhD in Criminal Psychology. In putting it all down on paper -- with the details I have already read in these blogs -- some new information might come to light.
