Business was booming Saturday morning at the former First National Bank Main office in downtown Barnesville just hours after the bank was closed by the FDIC and its assets purchased by United Bank.

This does NOT mean all FNB employees will have a job with UB, like lots of people are thinking.

within 5 years we will be saying good bye to united bank too. im sure they will be bought out by wells fargo or bank of america etc. nationalization of the banks is comming

How many people did First National have employed?? How many people will UB hire??? How many will be in the unemployment line soon??? The people in charge of this bank should have kept their own check and balances straight....They owed it to all their employees and stock holders!!!

I am sorry to read about the bank's closing. I worked there from 1966 to 1970 when Rowland Radford was President and John Hewitt, Quinton Moore, Catherine Cloud, Jackie Cooper, Lyla Ingram, and Charles Jackson were there as well. It was a fine bank that served the community well. I wish good luck to the present employees.

FNB I thought that was a big shot bank that only gives accounts to people with good credit or well known citizens in the community.

I think this was a good lesson or wake up call for everybody in our community. Before for you invest the hard earned money for your future at least do a little research. What a bank is rated has been available on line for years now. I found out, as far as five years ago, FNB of Barnesville rated only with two stars out of a possible five and has done nothing, that I know of, since then to raise their rating. Anybody who keeps more than $250K in a bank with only a two star rating is taking a real gamble with their financial future. Many of us just got lucky and dodged a bullet on this one. The next one, I bet we won’t be as lucky unless we wise up and check out an institution before making a deposit.

This is a sad time for alot of persons. Some families placed their earnings into stock in this bank and now it is worthless.
I am sure after the Federal Reserve does their audit that the answers will be present for all who have lost in this transaction. I hope the optimism will apply to all the others.

When FNB was the only bank the officers and some employees were rude, condescending and made you jump through hoops to beg a loan. As soon as united came I jumped ship. Many that I have talked with also have horror stories to tell about the arrogance of FNB. Wonder if there are any regrets?

what did everybody expect?they made loans to all these deadbets around here who wanted a house,and the sorry POS's knew they wern't going to pay for them.---but i deserve a house!all those rich people got one---obammy said he'd pay for it!its my RIGHT!!
