This grant could be a real game changer for the youth of Lamar county. A county population where the youth has a better skill set would draw in industry which in return would create more jobs and as well as a bigger tax base. Three million is a lot of seed money that could raise the quality of life for all in our small county.
I agree, this is a really exciting opportunity for Lamar County as a whole. What benefits the youth will benefit us all. Thanks to Lamar Co educators for taking the initiative to do this work on behalf of our citizens.
like ive said before ,this is a poor attempt to keep and attract the middle class students to the public school system. another attempt to spend tax money and to please the teacher unions. yes this is state and not local tax money but i for one have to pay state taxes too.why not cut funding to the public schools and allow parents to take their kids to private schools. i paid enough school tax in lamar county last year to send 6 kids to private school. the private sector can always do a better job than the public. i can already see truby and the gang glowing over their new tax money to spend on the magnet school where they can hand pick a few teachers kids and gifted kids and say wow look what weve done. oh by the way i just love the new 40,000.00 dollar sign in front of the fine arts building. way to go truby, ron , susan and company, we really needed that. i bet the board cant wait to go to 20 mills next year and spend spend spend and wow we could have another catered board retreat and we could spend another 10,000.00 and we could get a double certificaton as a highly qualified board. oh and we need some more new furniture for the board office too, and we could build another new school and lets get all new books, heck lets get books that can be on disks and get every student a lap top. the ways to spend tax money are endless.LAMAR COUNTY IS ABOUT TO SEE A TAX REVOLT LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
Will you hush! Move away then. If you go to Bibb, Fulton, Henry. I guess you would feel much better. The taxes a much higher in these large cites. Only one thing though. You would have to leave your mobile home/ trailer here. Sorry! LOL
'Dash' if you look on the left or right of your keyboard, you will notice a key marked 'Shift'....The 'shift' key is your friend...It's nothing to be afraid of, really....
..It would make your argument that more education opportunities aren't needed so much more believable......
Hey like it or not, the truth has been spoken by this person above. lamar county (along with other counties) have blown money like its growning on trees. We are in a terrible financial situation here. Can you justify the 40k dollar sign if indeed that is how much it cost.
WOW....If they receive this grant to start "a school within a school program". It tells me next year my taxes will go up to support and maintain this "school within a school program".
When will the public wake up and realize this $3.16 million is your money. Sure it comes from the state, but where did the state get the money? From us taxpayers! Most of us are sick of seeing the guvment throw money at problems that never get fixed.
Please tell me that was a misprint about the $40K sign.
OK Einstein, what educational problems do you know about where opportunities provided by such funding will not resolve?
What I see here is ignorance exacerbate by poverty and cultural influences as being our greatest obstacles. This grant could provide the empowerment to those who lack the means to build a skill set so that they won’t become dependent on social programs for survival.
You really believe these people want a skill? Why would they work, when the guvment will send them a check? There is an entitlement mentality that no amount of effort on the school's behalf can overcome! Most of these kids are sent to school to be housed. Their parents don't give a crap if they learn anything or not. I know many teachers that NEVER hear from a parent unless the child fails. And even the ones that want to learn, have to deal with ridicule from the "up and coming" rap artist wanna be's.
