This is no different than an armed robber or burglar running down the street pointing a handgun at people on the sidewalk and the police shooting and killing him. The only difference is the cars weighs a lot more than that bullet does. Great job Deputies!!!
I'm sure the deputy will feel bad about his part in it for the rest of his life anyway; without people like you reminding him.
A pit maneuver is most effective on dry roads that are clear of traffic and pedestrians. The presence of wet roads or bystanders make this move too dangerous in most instances. It is also helpful to have more than one pursuit vehicle involved, as the vehicle executing the pit maneuver will need time to recover control after the impact. Additional pursuit vehicles can deal with the suspects in the target car or assist with injuries if things go wrong.
The use of the pit maneuver is not taken lightly. Law enforcement must typically seek approval before employing this technique during a chase. Approval is typically only granted if the target vehicle presents an immediate danger to the public or its occupants. The pit maneuver works best at speeds close to 35 miles per hour (55 kph), and when vehicles are of a similar size and height. At higher speeds, alternative methods such as spike strips or tactical vehicle boxing are safer and more effective.

No "driver" murder charge is called for in this case. However, manslaughter charges should be brought against Beck and Duncan for their irresponsible actions. There is legal precedent to charge them for excessive deadly force when such force is not needed. Justice is needed in this case!
Deputy Chad Beck should be criminally charged as the person performing the PIT maneuver along with Cpl. Jarrad Duncan as the person authorizing said technique. It was a long chase from Rumble Road up I75 to Exit 201 East towards Jackson. Ample opportunities existed for the fleeing vehicle to be overtaken by the much higher powered police cruisers. "Spike Sticks" could have been employed to disable the "Death Car". Rolling roadblocks could have been used. Why no Lamar County or Butts County stationary roadblocks?
I travel this I75 and Hwy 36 "getaway route" frequently and the areas of missed opportunities to stop the vehicle do not fit the result of losing a life. The chase should have been called off for a misdemeanor offense since the vehicle identity was known and authorities up North I75 could have taken action.
It seems illogical high-speed chicken would be used by the fleeing driver after such a long chase. Why not drive Northbound on Southbound I75 in an attempt for the chase to be called off? I surmise the dash cams will reveal there was no "chicken" game. The pursuing deputies had failed in their attempts to stop the getaway car after a long chase. The deputies were frustrated and made a 'STOP THEM AT ALL COST' decision with the loss of a human life. Burglary is not a capital offense warranting a death sentence.
The GBI should take possession of ALL cruiser dash cams to ensure against any coverup.
Don't let these "deputy dawgs" escape JUSTICE! ..SUE...SUE...SUE!
The law dogs should have broke off the chase. No money was taken and no one was assaulted, shot or felony committed. No one had to die! The cops need to go to jail!
With so much information missing, I find it strange the so called information about alleged chicken playing with on coming traffic stood out as written gospel. The CYA has started and overcharging begins to draw out a plea bargain for these ol North Georgia boys while the light go free.
I wouldn't believe the "chaser" cop over the "chasee" alleged burglar until a thorough investigation was made by independant agencies with GBI leading.
Too much "good old boy network" around here unless this death is investigated by outsiders.

BUT I still conclude with that much to go on, they could have been subdued in a safer style. If they could read Dahlonega 1/2 inch letters they could read the tag number 4 inch letters.

Hats off to the officers involved in this. You probably saved many lives and definitely have prevented these criminals from committing more crimes.
My thanks go out to the police department for stopping these guys before someone innocent was killed. I know that officers have to make split second decisions and unless you have ever been in that situation, you should keep your mouths shut. Don't play Monday morning quarterback. I'm sure it is all on camera and will come out after the investigation is complete.
With all of that said, my sympathy still goes out to the family of the guy killed. It is always hard to loose a family member no matter the situation. My sympathy also goes out to the officer. I am sure he did not wish death on any on these men. I thank you officer Beck for putting your life on the line daily to protect citizens, even the idiots that have posted such ridiculous comments on this blog.
That one deputy on 75 is going to drive you crazy isn't it? I hope you will be able to move above and beyond this one day. I know it is just blowing your mind and working on your nerves so bad. Have you thought about seeking treatment? There are a lot of good medications on the market now...just reach out for help man.

What would you liberal, all for the criminal people say if these kids had caused a wreck? How do you know that they would have slowed down if not being chased? They were trying to get the hell away from the crime scene. You don't know what would have happened. What would the police be blamed for then? Not protecting the citizens? That being said, the three were not playing the game for a can of potted meat and crackers, they were trying to "ROB IT." Attempted robbery, like attempted murder just means you did not succeed with the big crime.
For example: Lynette Fromme attempted to assassinate Gerald Ford. She served 24 years for being too stupid to know there was no bullet in the chamber. John Wilkes Booth assassinated Abraham Lincoln. He was tracked down and killed.

The exception would be if the person were a convicted criminal escaping from jail/prison. This was not the case.
No, they shouldn't have stolen, but stealing is not a capitol offense, and neither is fleeing and attempting to elude.
Some officers are getting way too overzealous, and are resorting to creative descriptions and choice tag words to attempt to make their actions soeem justified. Juries are getting wise to this, though.
Chases generate such a massive L.E. presence because they are fun.

Interesting, considering the use of Deadly force is not justified for offences such as Robbery, stealing, Fleeing and Eluding, etc. These guys were running from the law, they did not not hurt or kill anyone, regardless of what "could have" happened. What DID happen is the officer killed one of them.
Regardless, the officer sure did seem eager to pit them out. Especially when they were in another county even.
