I am glad to see this taking place. I hope Griffin will do the same. Maybe there will be one of these that can handle all the plastic soft drink bottles, that seem to be everywhere. If they polute like other generators, what the heck, Al Gore is advocating Global Warming anyway.
Well I guess we want be the only ones chokng in a few years.
"The Barnesville/Thomaston biomass incinerator poses a threat to the public health. It will spew out hundreds of tons of toxic pollution monthly. There are no air pollution controls that can protect humans - especially vulnerable children and the elderly - from the deadly particulates, carbon monoxide, dioxins, furans and mercury from
this incinerator.
That's why 77,000 doctors nationwide oppose wood burning biomass incinerators. The American Lung Association, the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians and the Massachusetts Medical Society all oppose biomass incinerators".
"Fox news had a story about how these plants weren't any cleaner than coal a few months ago."
So? Want to see your electric bill double? These fuels are used because they are plentiful and cheap. Unless you like expensive electricity. You really need to save money to pay all these new fees from the county.
More to the point, other counties are moving fast forward with industrial development. Here we are chasing jobs and taxes OUT.
Barnesville in thirty years will look like Meansville.
My house is powered by a Naquadria Generator. The power lines are just a cover. The decay rate of the Naquadria should be about 400 years so Im in good shape for now. I submitted it to to the gov a few years back but they couldnt figure out how they would profit from it so fossil fuels its is for everyone else.
"Thomaston has had one of these for years now. No one can operate it and make a profit. lol "
The plant currently in place there is powered by expensive natural gas. In contrast, Georgia Power hauls in coal from Wyoming to meet environmental standards at Plant Scherer.
The Upson plant only operates during the highest demand periods for electricity due to the high cost of natural gas.
An electric car plugs in, and charges mostly with energy from coal-fired plants. Coal is the same as gasoline or wood. All use sunshine energy that was used by plants to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen. Coal, wood, and any petroleum product produces the same amount of carbon dioxide for the same amount of energy. This is because they all combine carbon with oxygen to release energy.
The only difference with a wood plant is our government allows wood plants to produce 2.5 times the dirty stuff as a coal plant. This provides an enticement to invest in them, since they are so costly to operate.
To show how dumb they think we are, they tell us all the wood will come from this area. Running a 50 MW plant at capacity requires around 20 tons of wood per hour. Good luck on getting that wood from around here.
This will eventually do to the woods what cotton did to the fields, and will do exactly the same thing to the air as coal or oil. The nutrients that used to be returned to the soil by decaying trees will go up in smoke.
What's that you say? Biomass incinerators are going to keep your electricity bill from doubling? Why don't you look into the cost per kilowatt generated and report back to all of us. I think you're going to find that we are being hoodwinked. Just like the global warming scam.
Up until the Chinese started sucking up all the world's coal supply for their overheated economy, coal was the cheapest way to generate electricity. Thanks to US Federal government meddling, all the cheap ways of generating electricity are being bullied out.
This is how your always helpful government helps you have “sustainable electricity”. First, they artificially raise the cost of coal, natural gas, and other less expensive methods of generating electricity through taxes. With the unconstitutional agency EPA, cap and trade will be phased in 2011. This makes electricity so much more expensive, green electricity (ie. Solar, wind, biomass, etc) seems more reasonably priced. But you'll still see skyrocketing electric rates.
But let's go to the next step in the scam. The US federal government takes your money out of your pay check each week and hands it over to these same new “green” companies in the form of subsidies.
Are the “green” initiatives any better for the environment? Imagine a plant that supplies electricity to 10,000 homes using wood and the carbon footprint that will leave. Imagine the effect that will have on local folks who burn wood to keep warm all winter. Power plants that use wood for energy potentially can raise the cost of local firewood.
The cheapest way to make electricity is nuclear power plants. But the environuts killed that resource decades ago. Now everyone of us is going to see big jumps in the cost of electricity. Much of it courtesy of government meddling.
One of these powered by natural gas, why couldnt the gas from land fills be used to power such an operation. Maybe that will bring down the costs. Just my thoughts.

Question for ya. Where is the electricity powering your computer coming from?
I would assume a "greenie" such as yourself would go completely without electricity to provide a good example for the rest of us?

Did that blow to your head hurt much?
