One person was killed Saturday night in a home invasion incident at a residence at 121 Westchester Drive in Barnesville.

Well, that was a stupid comment considering some mother has lost a child. People or shall I say adults need to take this serious. Young individuals are losing their lives for non-sense, yall. We need to wake up and seek God for guidance. And we parents need to gather our young and get their bodies and minds into a church with a good pastor who can offer some good strong advice and mentoring. So this means we need some good spiritual leaders to step up to the plate and be a good guide. Our children are following too many wrong people down the wrong road. If this continues for generations, where will we be yall? Where will we be 5, 10, 15, or 20 years from now?

We all need God to help us.... white, black, green, blue and orange. Whose gonna start?

Wow this is in the same area of the woman being stabbed. Definitely need to remember to stay clear of this area. Of course, it's not far from the Huddle House. You'd think that since thats where all the cops stay at night anyways they would be right on top of this.

I keep on posting this up. This place is going to hell in a hand basket. People are wanting to move from here. Houses are forsale and some are vacant now. The thugs of Henry, Spalding, Clayton, Fulton, Dekalb, Rockdale, etc. is running this place in the ground. Gordon will soon be a wild version of Fort Valley college. Everytime I turn on the news its " 3 black males" this..... or " we are looking for 2 black males" that... I can read between the lines. The LCSO, NTF, and whatever multi agency task force they can get together, needs to turn this city upside down. The dope dealers on all levels needs to get out of here. Dui should be zero tolerance. Meth, coke, heroin, crack should be zero tolerance. We need to make a name for ourselves so that people dont want to bring that crap around here in fear of the maximum penalty being handed out. Probation isnt working anymore. Its not about the city making money off of criminals anymore. The citizens are fed up with it and want them gone. If the police gets called out to a disturbance or music or whatever after one warning, someone needs to go to jail. Its time to crack down around here.

I think it's real sad that you can't even send your child to school anymore without worrying whether or not they will be safe. What the people around here need to be worried about is who did it and have they caught them yet. first my sympathy goes out to the family. this was a senseless crime. however the lifestyle that many are living, leads to these senseless crimes. i did not know this young man , so i hope he was totally innocent . the THUG LIFE that many of our young people brag about living leads to these type of situations. the partying, drinking, weed, and ho"s lead to the murders and everyone pouring out some liquer for them and having rip shirts printed up and wearing them.you will see more and more of these situations happening in barnesville. we are importing thugs to gordon and mixing them with our own HOMEGROWN thugs.the next thing you will read on here will be some type of retaliaton from this guys homies. this is not the first incident, remember the drive by a couple of years ago at gordon. also the gordons students that shot up the poker game on greenwood st. or the gordon students that mugged the student at spring apartments. just look at the sheriffs report and the police report every week and see how many out of town college students are arrestted to go along with our own. this is a problem gordon and its time you do something about it. we need to take the handcuffs off local law enforcement and let them go to town writing tickets and locking up gordon students(not the innocent, only the guilty) it could even solve our revenue problem here in lamar county. if you are a gordon student that doesnt participate in these kind of things , then take your college back over. go to the presidents office everytime you you can complain about those that are thugs. theres more dope on that campus and wherever these students live than in columbia. its time to end our own little ;DIRTY SOUTH' at gordon. THE TRUTH

I have been in your position, where a family member was murdered and the same bashing and name calling was done to her. Don't let the negative comments out weigh what your nephew was doing such as trying to get an education or the person he was.

because that is what is on channel 2 news day in and day out. You just keep your eyes closed and ears closed if you want to. I know what i see. I never said that other races didnt commit crimes, the MAJORITY of the time you can guarantee which one did it though.
Get you a pen and paper and keep it beside your couch and and keep track for 2 weeks how many blacks commit crimes and how many whites. Let us know how that works out for you. OR go to any department of corrections website and view their graphs on race. If they only account for 20% +/- of the populations why are they the majority in prisons? You do the research. Dont take my word for it.

Ride through this city and see how many houses are forsale. This place wasnt like this 10-15 years ago. The college lets anyone come to the school that wants to. If you dont pass the test, keep on trying and then they will give you some money and offer classes to help you pass. It attracts certain types of people. You ever heard of affirmative action? Could this be a branch of it? I do plan on moving thank you, along with lots of other people. If you knew anything about real estate, you would know that this isnt a good point to try and sell homes. Sorry I dont rent an apt around here and can just pack up and move. I am a homeowner and a property tax payer. Keep on renting.

This still doesnt take away the fact that out of town thugs and wanna be thugs are coming into our town and acting this way. If the victim was straight A's, no dope in his system, kept to himself, and has a clean record then that is good. If he was a part of the problems then so be that also.
The thugs that did the shooting are in the wrong and should be killed.

I personally just find it hard to believe that the guy just randomly chose to come over to that house and kill the guy for no reason. There are more details to come out sooner or later. It could have happened but I highly doubt it.

I am glad I moved from this town. I was actually thinking of moving back, but since this outbreak of crime in the last few years and the Gordon student thugs that hang out on campus smoking and displaying bad character, I definitely will not be coming back. My daughter wanted to go to Gordon and I refuse to let her be subjected to the crap that this College allows. Where have the standards gone? Pajamas in class, allowing anyone to be accepted, excessive drugs on campus. I will pay for my daughter to go somewhere else! What a shame because I was an alumni of Gordon and it was respectable when I went to school here. Now it is a joke. Current Gordon students please take a stand or get away as fast as you can.

It isn't the college's fault that some misguided people decided it wasn't worth their time to see things straight and put a shotgun to a KID'S head! While the college may let in people who may not be prime college students, it isn't the college's fault for what its students decide to do! I'm quite sure if your daughter barely missed the cut to get into Gordon for some reason that you'd be creating an upset for her to get in! That’s how it always is. Let me ask you, where do you propose on moving to? Clue me in to your secret town with a 0% crime rate. Just because Barnesville is small doesn’t mean it is supposed to be a crime free place! The people of Barnesville need to figure out what methods will be most effective in eradicating as much of the crime occurring as possible and ACT on it. And you sit there and type that Gordon is not a “respectable school” anymore? Why must it be defined as respectable so long as its students act according to the law? Yes, select students are to be considering disrespectful, but that need not be applied to the school itself. If you moved away, that was your decision; however, plenty of people in Barnesville still love living here and do not want to see their home turned into a playground for thugs, criminals, and especially second- and third-time offenders. Honestly, if you want to start pointing fingers, perhaps you are missing the point here. Someone was murdered. The people at fault have been caught. One was SEVENTEEN. So who do you point the finger at? The kid? The parents? The school he is enrolled at? Whatever substances that may have been involved? The town that sat idly by and watched yet another person fall subject to brutality? Stop pointing fingers. I’m sorry to the families involved. ALL of them. I'll tell you what needs to change in this community. The judges need to quit giving minor consequences for these people that commit crimes. I say we do like Singapore. Eye for an eye. And for the record when it comes time for my daughter to apply for college if for some odd reason she doesn't get in she needs to improve her education to make the cut! I don't think my daughter will have that problem making straight A's in school. I just hate to think of the people she will have to encounter that don't give a rip about education and are there just for the fun ride.

For your information, Barnesville was doing just fine BEFORE Gordon got it's attendance up. It's not the Police's responsibility to fix the potholes or the rundown neighborhoods. Is that what Gordon is teaching?

Gordon got its attendance up because they allow anyone to attend. We dont want a high attendance at Gordon if all the crime is gonna follow along with it. We will keep it how it was. You can keep the "change". Instead of "holding it down" for him, why do you try to get others to not live a certain type of lifestyle. Call Jesse and Al and see if they will hold a festivity down there to get the kids out of the "hood" and doing "hood" things. Guest speaker can be Bill Cosby. Ohhhh.. cant do that though. He speaks a lot of the truth. Some people may get offended. Taxes are for fixing holes. Its not anyones responsibility to fix up the run down neighborhoods. Why dont the renters and homeowners do somethign about it. Call the police when someone is selling dope outside. Plant some grass even if you are renting. Cut the yard, pick up limbs and sticks, plant some shrubs and flowers, pressure wash the house, paint it, dont let 12 people play dominoes in the front yard with tables set up. There are ways to get around this way of living. Take pride in where you live. No just accept the way the "hood" is. Same goes for the white trailer parks. Im not gonna leave them out. You dont have to be rich to not partake in the hood lifestyle.

regradless of what was involved it doesnt excuse the fact that someone lost their child,brother,cousin and family remember all in one. has some respect for the family that is having to lay their son to rest. its one thing when you loose a child by a car accident but even worst when someone takes their life.

I know the family personally. I know the young man that was slain personally. I also know that all of you were once young and liked to have fun in which ever manner you chose to operate. My heart goes out to the family of the victim. I am a non-traditional student at Gordon and personally had a class with this student and one that was interviewed on the news. I never saw such DISRESPECT for authority as I did from them and their friends. It was always talk about parties and the party bus. It was so sad. Parents and taxpayers are paying tuition for these students to waste their time and the time of the Professors and other students. I personally saw TROUBLE follow TROUBLE !!!

My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of all involved. I pray this young man's death will not be in vain, and that parents, family members and friends will see this as a wake up call to educate their children on the dangers of the streets, and stress the importance of the sanctity of life, a good education, positive goals, choosing friends wisely and NEVER follow anyone to do wrong. I believe Bryce was a good kid (I didn't say that made no mistakes) that had the potential for being a successful and productive young man, yet his life's been forever changed by one grave mistake that he cannot undo.
Please don't think this could not happen to my child because it can and will if they don't make wise choices and allow peer pressure to ruin their lives.
Shemiek's grand mother sound like a godly lady that did the best she could, and I hope she'll not blame herself for the unfortunate choices that he made.

The people that did the shooting, sitting behind bars now were not GORDON students!!! I am a current student at Gordon and I am tired of all the BASHING. The crimes going on are everywhere, not just Gordon and Barnesville. The crime would have moved there, school or no school. It is the direction the world is going in. I DO NOT go to school in pajamas, DO NOT smoke or do drugs, DO NOT get drunk. Stop generalizing, if you drive all the students away there will be NO town!!! You will find bad anywhere you go, Gordon is NOT a Terrible place.

One more thing, everything that happens in Barnesville people on this chat turn it into a race issue and it's the students at Gordons fault. I use to have a lot of respect for the people of this town, not anymore.

WOW! Barnsville has really gone to shit! it's really sad! and YES! it is most definately all of the hood rats coming from jonesboro and griffin. Gordon needs to really think about who they allow in their school!! they need to set their standards a little higher than that!!!

People even wear pajamas to class at UGA TRUST ME I GRADUATED FROM THERE! SO THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT....I am so sick of race being an issue too and WHAT HAS BVILLE CoME TO....Dang and I thought athens was bad WOW

We never used to have crime like this?????(just a couple of years ago)

Good police work in finding these threee thugs this trash needs to be removed off the streets.. these three idiots 17-year-old Shameik Spinks, 21-year-old Lekievius Eleby and 21-year-old Brice Smith Have nothing better to do in there worthless lives but to rob and steal they prob the ones on drugs or selling drugs.. I hope there asses rot in jail while they waiting to be put to death! You have a college student trying to do something worth while in there life and you have these thugs that prob don't even have a GED take this poor kids life. but they are not the only ones... half of Barnesville is full of these types they needs to be convicted and locked away for life maybe our streets will be safe again!!

Good Police working in getting this Thug Trash off the streets.. these thugs 17-year-old Shameik Spinks, 21-year-old Lekievius Eleby and 21-year-old Brice Smith Need to rot in jail for what they did to this innocent young man trying to go to school and make something out of his self unlike there ignorant seleves they prob don't even have a GED.. But this is the type of people we have here in Barnesville Thugs and Hoodlums all you see in the street gangs and criminal activity smoking weed drinking and stealing anything they can get there hands on.. Mostly what ever you work for!! I feel sorry for anyone in Barnesville that has a young child they trying to raise because as long as trash like this is on the streets they are not safe from being lured into a worthless life of crime like these 3 idiots I hope they never see the light of day again outside a prison wall.. to rob someone and kill them in the manner they did it is just sick and they will get there's in jail I am sure they will make nice young lovers on there kness for some real thugs!!

Sweetie, I am happy to hear that someone loved him. He was the son of my friend. I live in Maryland and had the opporunity to meet him when he visited his father who was stationed in Virginia at the time. He was a very bright young man that I believe would have gone far in life. I know his parents along with his younger brothers love and miss him somthing awful. Keep him deep within your heart, never forget him and he will always be with you, I know that's where I am keeping him. May GOD richly bless you as you mourn the lost of a loved one taken too soon from our sights.

- Parents are ultimately responsible for raising their kids in a proper, repectful, postive and productive way.

- "God" or "Church" is no magical answer in and of itself. It may help some to have something positive in their life whether it's a loving supportive family, strong extended family influence or in some cases a strong spiritual relationship and respectful outlook on life.

- As far as houses being for sale: Houses are for sale EVERYWHERE. The last two years have been horrible for homeowners, foreclosures, job loss...etc. Barnesville is no different than any other place.

- I do see some unsavory characters with Fulton & Clayton auto tags going to Gordon. It's a societal issue folks and it's also part & parcell with small college towns in alot of locations. We just happen to live next to Atlanta.

People love to complain, moan, sit behind computers and blog & post about the ills of society, but what are you doing on an individual basis to change things? All I can control is what happens in my family. I want my children to be happy, productive, well grounded & well rounded respectful young people and ultimately successful adults. It all starts with us as parents. I'm doing my part in my family. Are you???

I agree! I am being forced to move because of the thugs that have taken over. I can't say how many times I've had to call the police. I walk out to my car at 10:00 at night and there is a thug male standing by my car. He had to come inside my fence to stand there. I don't think he was wanting directions. Then he just looked at me for a minute like deciding what to do and turned around and walked slowly off. The police have been called numerous times. I had someone in my backyard twice in the last few weeks. 3 weeks ago a thug on my front porch that took off when I turned on the lights. So, yea. Take a look at the crime rates in Riverdale, Clayton County, Cobb County, Dekalb County, Fulton County since those counties have gone majority thug. You don't have to take my word for this. The proof is in the statistics. All of you people who want to prove how fair you are being to one group of people are not being truthful to yourself. I will tell you how the counties have gone majority nonwhite. Because some want to take over communities they intimidate, trespass, invade and kill. So, people like me move because I don't want to be killed. I am moving. I have no choice. I have to walk around with a gun in my hand all the time. Because, I am not going to get caught empty handed again like I did that night I walked out to my car and that ghetto freak was standing in my yard. Or at 2:00 in the morning when someone comes on my front porch. Or when a pizza hut delivery person comes to my door with a "Pizza" in their hand saying they are lost needing directions with a few thug friends with him. In case you haven't read the latest. Barnesville is the next Dekalb County or Riverdale. It's gone. And that is exactly what the thugs have in mind. Intimidate and kill. Here is another city in the South that has gone down the toilet. Then bars can be put on windows, police departements on every corner, no walking on main street at night, no jobs. And all you bleeding hearts want to say racism, discrimination. Well, you just keep on because soon, you will be staying in your house trying to stay safe like it is a fort . I am angry and disgusted that I am being force to move. But I am looking forward to getting out of here and getting somewhere that has not turned to trash. Believe me, the next place I move, I will check the demographics. Everywhere I have checked so far, one majority has a low crime rate. Check it for yourself. Fortunately, these places have been able to keep the thugs out and have learned by places like Barnesville what happens if they don't. And if they let one thug in, they come in like a disease and start killing. And since the bleeding hearts are making laws that allow thugs to come on our property and the law tells us we can't use a gun to defend our family, there is not much we can do but move. These criminals know the law will do everything to protect them. Don't shoot at them because they will sue! I think I'll make list of the crime before and after and show pictures of before and after. Then when I move, I can show them what happens if a city is not kept clean. I got to say, I miss the 50s!
