The clerk of the December term grand jury that failed to indict former Lamar County payroll clerk, office manager Gretchen Ellerby was the woman who preceded Ellerby in the job.

He can't see the conflict between someone who did almost the same thing and got canned. No wonder he loses cases. Lets let the air conditioner theives have a grand jury person who used to steal air conditioners.
Can someone please tell me how in the world this is not a conflict? At the very worst, if it was not a conflict, why did she not do the ethical and politically correct thing and recuse herself??? Patti may not have been a current employee but these two have a work history together in this same office for many years. Something is definitely worng with this system, just saying...............

you people of lamar county have some serious issues, you realy should seek help.ya'll are so blind that the good ol boys don't have to hide behind closed doors any more they carry on right in front of your face!!!
I wonder what the State Attorney General would say on this issue? I wonder what the State Supreme Court would say?
I would hope someone would exercise that ability and see what happens.
For those of you who don't know. The Fletcher family is related to Gretchen. I believe that is her maiden name. I think there should be another grand jury called in both of these cases that were no billed. Of course, the Clerk of the court needs to be checked out too. She used to be the county administrator and her husband was over the jail. She lost her job in a similar manner of what is going on now. Her husband was overpaid on his check for comp time. She was cleared but dismissed from her job. Makes you wonder if the county gave her a chance to resign and not press charges. She should had not been connected to either one of these cases. Looks like she didn't forward the lst indictments at a way of getting back at the county for losing her job. So they had to be set back up again , to be billed or no-billed with another grand jury. I wonder who does the picking of names for the grand jury. I hope to God it wasn't the clerk. Might want to check her checking account to see if she might have been paid under the table. The DA is accountable for all of this and he should be held responsible. Next election time, we need to make sure Monroe and Butts county citizens knows what is going on with this DA so he will not be voted in again.
If Patty had the same responsibilities as Grethen, her pay increases need to be reviewed for her time in office. Milam, you have really lost it man, and I actually say that with sympathy this time. You have some kind of serious mental problem that is causing you to make some really "unbelievable, incredibly terrible judgment calls.". You may need to step down now while in the mind of some people you have a shred of dignity left.
Were any of these Fletchers on the grand jury within the "degrees" of kinship that they should've been disqualified? If not, the state AG could probably care less.
And the saga continues! It is like reading some type of gossip tabloid from the supermarket but the citizens of Barnesville and Lamar county are really getting abused! Someone outside the county needs to come in and look into the decisions that are being made in our court system and city and county government in general.
As I recall she was terminated for paying her husband money that was not due him. There was some dispute about that and she was never charged with a crime.
what are you bunch of backwoods hicks and crack heads crying about?ya'll will just re-elect the same fools that are in office right now,you proved that last election.stop your crying and go back to being good little blind sheep
Yeh, I guess Lamar is getting as crooked as the so-called good ole boys in Upson, and the horrible thing about it is I have glorius ancestors in both counties, and it is so disgusting. Even so, come LORD JESUS take all the evil from this world that you and your Daddy created, not some d.a. Charles Darwin monkey, oh I forgot the Commie is in the Bhouse now in D.C. May the LORD help us all, and Semper Fi, till I die, USMC. I love the Meltons, cause one of the Meltons kin to me died at the Alamo in 1836 and he was Eliel Melton, Quartermaster from what I have seen and is descended from John Stroud, my 6th GreatGrandddaddy of Mars Hill Baptist Church of Watkinsville, Ga. and Rev. War veteran. God Bless America always and deliver us from the Commie Heathens now running our government in D.C.
how did she patty ice even get on the grand jury i have lived in lamar co for over 22 years i never get called however u don't know what I KNOW BOUT how they get Picked ask u r Comm. jimmy hearn he and his wonderful wife knows how he's been doing that for years just ask u will be shocked if he tells u the truth i hope.
Is this the Upson Lawyer Mark Irwi- asking Sheila this question about her seeing Johnnie Caldwell??!! If so, what is your point Mark, I know your family and I know the Caldwells as one is kin to my cousins and I know Sheila online and I think in person, and I like what she posts on this newspaper site, and think she is a good smart Christian woman, and I hope to God she is not seeing Johnnie Caldwell, who resigned as judge in disgrace from what the Fayetteville newspaper posted along with his buddie "Pappie" from survivor t.v. cause I know both of them and liked "Pappie" at least in past history I did, but we all have sinned and come short of glory! Tell me this accusation ain't true Sheila, as I hope it ain't. Upson Patriot.
That's because the funds were due her husband. The commissioners were just to coward to own up to taking the blame. Gretchen paid other employees funds even though she had been told not to by the commissioners.
What is your last name Mark? To answer your question, no I am not seeing Johnnie Caldwell. He did process two of my three divorces (1973 & 1984) when he was an attorney. That was before he was elected District Attorney and appointed Judge. What encouraged you to ask such a foolish question? Do you know where I can find him? I would like to drop in and say "Hello" for old times sake.
It would be interesting to get his "spin" on all that has recently happened in Lamar County. Where can I find him?
It has been fun talking to you Mark..."skeered" to give my last name.
No name required. I have a scheduled program that runs on my computer that completes a Gutmann 35 pass drive wipe. That and MULTIPLE hard drives and residences in 3 counties keeps me pretty damn safe from nosy big brothers. Send me your facts that need to be aired to the Hard Working Taxpayers of Barnesville.
Tolley's Topics. All true facts welcome! OUR goal here at Tolley's Topics is to, :Create a redistribution of funds stolen from Taxpayers by county officials and given back to those hard workers from which they were stolen.
Correct me if I am wrong. Didn't Mrs. Ellerby promised to pay the $5,000.00 back to the county and never paid a payment? Did she sign a promissary note? Why would the grand jury reccommend to rehire her with knowledge of the promise? If the next term grand jury doen't doe a better job.
Erase that problem from your mind, Honey. The only people of authority that I have ever had relationships with are GSP and GBI. One FBI once but he was a terrible kisser. I called my GBI man Geebie, still nice looking and still there. A good man. I often ask myself, "How has he survived?"
here's how it works in this county a select few sit on a committee to select jurors annually, in the commissioners meeting room. they go through voter registrations one by one they discuss each card with someone's name on it and ask each member who is helping if they know this person and if they think they are ok to serve on the grand jury of course u have to be connected to someone to be selected then as a back up unfortunate for them they have to go back and select more from minorities or by percentage of black, hispanic, etc... in this county to meet state guide lines and appear unbiased. jurors are not selected at random in this county. unless they changed there process in the last two years.I am speaking of GRAND JURY. not traverse jury
But my tutu looks pretty, doesn't it? I wore it in the last Gay Parade and got myself many butties. Sweet Honeys they were! Mercy me, we had some fun. What is your name, sweet thang? I want to smooch on yours, I meant you.
I don't get it. If there is a question about something, why not just solve it. Like with the presidents birth cirtificate. If he would just show it there would be no question. Since there is a question about Stephens being on the GJ why not just replace her. Problem solved.
Don't miss out on your printed copy of HG dated December 28, 2010. Page 2A at the very top. Read that and tell me that we do not have some very serious problems in Lamar County.
Yeah right. Just like Gretchen was due all that money , so she just went ahead and gave herself a raise that was not signed off on. Well, I must admit, if you have your wife as county adminstrator and you feel you are owed money through your pay, she is definitely in the right position to make sure you get it. When someone can no longer be trusted with tax payers money , they need to find another job and pay back every penny they stole.
yes sheila its is very wrong and trust me the state officials just say we are sorry but we have bigger problems to deal with all over this state and even one unmamed who was the assistant attorney general said the best thing to do is expose those people to the citizens of our county and let them take care of the problem in the election process BIG JOKE HA HA
you have no idea what I have tried to do to correct this in Lamar Co. nothing will be done , why do u think these weesels in the county continue. they know we aren't going to be able to do anything. they are well connected to state politics. I have been working around these people all my life I know how the game is played and it makes ME SICK!!!
That is the way with honest people, but they are an endangered species, Elmo. One lie is covered by another. One CAUGHT person knows something just as serious on a person a little higher up, they can't afford to fire that one because he/she knows something on the next level up until....the first thing you know, $7700 of taxpayers money is stolen and the grand jury finds that stealing from taxpayers is not wrong. One day the house of cards will come falling down, but taxpayers will not get a rebate. Your taxes will continue to rise, VOTE all incumbents out...at least you will have a year or two of almost honest elected officials.
Vote for commissioners who commit to post all pay increases in the HG. Immediately. They are open records anyway. Gretchen and all other officials should be taking pay cuts just like Deal is doing to state level employees, including himself. When the economy takes a hit, ELECTED OFFICIALS should take a hit with them . After all we pay them. How are we supposed to pay them the same salary PLUS INCREASES while WE have taken salary cuts. Think about it, people. More to come, when I finish my analysis.

Knew there was something, or someone, that got these two major cases thrown out of grand jury.
Something somewhere has to be illegal here. We sure can't look to Milam for answers.
