Fail. The idiots in the commission can be more in touch with reality and reduce spending in these bad economic times. Instead of raising taxes as though nothing else is taking place in the real world.
I am not expecting any significant change from these people and voting may not be the solution required to get their attention.
To me, communicating better is only the starting position. There has to be retoric with good solid logic. A change in if I want something, we just pass it on to the taxpayers, is what I feel the Commissioners need to learn. The Taxpayers, in my opinion, are not impressed with the constant raising of taxes, and things not getting better just more toys for the County to play with.
What would you cut that would make a major difference?
The problem can't be fixed by cutting. It was caused by mismanagement over years that built up the big debt we have now. The give-aways from the county to the city, employees who do poor jobs, stealing, the declining job market, too many people on welfare, poorly rated schools, bad business attitude for small business. It all adds up.
Can't be undone by reducing taxes, can't be undone in a few years. We gotta pay for letting it all happen. This will be the new USA.
10% cut across the board, combine services to eliminate staff and management. If I go in the probate office two are just sitting there, one is working, Kathy Martin is holed up in her office never to be seen. the tax comm. office is the biggest waste, rarely is there more than one person waiting on customers. Why can't Anthony do what that lady does in her own office? Why does the voter registra have a part time employee, what do we pay the board a monthly salary for this? on and on and on Everything is no billed so we can cut the clerk of courts office by 75%. Do away with all this leadership, committee stuff, these are the same people, getting the same perks. We my dear friends and citizens are in a hell of a mess and a tax increase is coming, write that down and bend over.
I agree with you as to the problem. But we the taxpayers just cannot afford this stress of increased tax. Seniors can't afford it. People don't have food on their tables now. It's not right that our elderly have to worry about ANYTHING. I took an elderly man to apply for food stamps, and while they stated he did not qualify with his small income, I was amazed at the amount of stuff for kids that the office had during holloween, and so much decoration for the kids, just overboard. There is more of a desire to take care of people with children, who have never worked a day in their life, and who refuse to hold the sperm donor accountable. I would not say this is the new USA, it's been going on for years, and although we the people complained, we still had the finances to continue living. Now we don't; we have lost our jobs, and prices have increased, and we no longer have the finances to offset the increase. Well, if we can't reduce taxes, we most certaintly can't afford to increase them.
You are absolutely correct. The first thing that must be accomplished is, like in any business, define the problem. The problem is not that Gretchen stole $7700 from us taxpayers that she will never be forced to repay. The problem is THAT IT HAPPENED and was condoned for over a year? Why? Then ask yourself, how can a thief be no billed by a Grand Jury that even recommended that the thief be rehired? You answer that problem and I bet you all the money in my husband's checking account, you will discover more and bigger problems. I know what I am talking about and some tax paid people wish I would shut my mouth, but I am not. I have learned life's lessons the hard way.
In my young years I would have said, "Fire Gretchen." Problem solved. That is not a real solution because Gretchen is a small piece of the problem, but does deserve punishment that has not been delivered and will not be pursued by current officials. (They can't, for they qualify to plead the fifth.)
Here is the way I look at problems, since I have been in the upper echelon where the big bloopers happen. Problems (problem employees, thieves, cookers of books, false details, fraternizers, political favors, sexual favors, cover ups, shredding machines, injustice in general etc.) are like ROCKS in the bottom of a lake. Businesses and Government Offices are like boats sailing on the lake. The water is profits, benefits, county safety, balanced budgets, stable taxes, county enhancements, businesses, etc, or a buffer that managers use to keep problems from hurting the businesses. When the profits are up(water) the boat (business) is floating good, safely above the problem of the rocks. BUT..........all it takes is for the water level to drop and guess what happens....the boat gets closer to problems. Then the economy takes another downturn and a little more water evaporates.
The massive dangerous rocks are on the very bottom. They are the base for the smaller rocks that have been tossed ever so effortlessly over to cover the real boulders. All of a sudden, when it is obvious that there will be no rainfall,(tax revenue) you cannot help but collide with that Gretchenstone that has landed on top of the bigger more massive rocks. YOU MUST GET THAT ROCK OUT OF THE WAY! If not, everyone will see that you are no longer sailing in smooth waters. "OUT with the Gretchenstone", says the Captain. OK. Now the little rock is gone, but the water is rippling still. The level drops a little more and another rock surfaces, it seems that the Gretchenstone may have formed a little bond with the rock on which it lay for such a long spell. I guess we must throw that stone out as well, BUT WAIT...the water level is still not rising...we will continue to hit more rocks. WE MUST CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE BASE OF THE LAKE BEFORE WE CAN EXPECT ANY SMOOTH SAILING. OMG, WHAT CAN WE DO? BUT LOOK AT THE HORIZON .......................I can see Voting Day in the distance........perhaps smooth sailing, once again, for Lamar County.
It will mean getting all those old rocks out but boy will it be a nice day to cruise once again when we can see bottom!
Happy boating, taxpayers...you have worked hard for it. Now get ready to vote and Skip a few stones over the water. It will feel good and refreshing to know that YOU made the difference. After all you are the real Captain, it is your Boat, What is wrong with these idiots............do they have rocks in their heads???
Well said, Shirley. The parasites must be destroyed. Drug testing before benefits are tossed freely among the takers will eliminate about a third of the problem. AND Government Employees, if they had to take them.
YOU SAY WE DONT NEED A ROCK SPRINGS GUY. I SAY WE NEED MORE BIBLE BELIEVING, HOLY GHOST FILLED PEOPLE IN OFFICE WHETHER THEY GO TO ROCK SPRINGS OR NOT. ITS AMAZING THAT MOST PEOPLE I HEAR CRITICIZE THIS CHURCH HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN. LETS SEE YOU ARE CRITICAL OF THIS CHURCH BUT THIS CHURCH DOES MORE FOR THE COMMUNITY THAN ANY OTHER.THEY PROVIDE A FREE MEDICAL CLINIC FOR THOSE WITH NO INSURANCE, A HOME FOR LADIES GETTING OFF DRUGS, A 12 STEP PROGRAM FOR LADIES AND MEN, A MINISTRY TO FEED THE HOMELESS AND HUNGRY, A MATERNITY HOME FOR UNWED MOTHERS, AND MANY OTHER MINISRIES AND SUPPORT GROUPS.I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SAY THAT THERE ARE PLENTY OF GOOD GODLY PEOPLE THAT GO TO OTHER CHURCHES AND THAT DO OFFER THINGS TO THE COMMUNITY. WE AS CHURCH MEMBERS ARE ALL ON THE SAME TEAM.LETS NOT BE CRITICAL OF EACH OTHER AND LETS SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER AND PULL TOGETHER FOR JESUS .FROM WHAT I KNOW ABOUT MR. GLASS HE SEEMS LIKE A GOOD MAN. THE MAJOR WRONG DOING WITH THE ENTIRE MONEY PROBLEM IN THE COUNTY IS THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM AND THE WASTE THERE. GOD BLESS YOU AND I PRAY YOU GO TO CHURCH SOMEWHERE THIS SUNDAY AND YOURE ALWAYS WELCOME AT ROCK SPRINGS --- THE PERFECT PLACE FOR PEOPLE THAT ARENT.
I'm going to open a new church here in Barnesville. It's going to offer a brand new service that no other area church, or probably no church in the world offer. It's going to be a 12-step program. I'm going to call it:
HOW TO STOP USING ALL CAPS and still get your point across.
I think it will be a positive program that area members will be able to utilize and share with their family. Along with the program, the 4-step program of:
Quit taking everything so seriously and chill the *&^% out.
Though, since it will be a church I'll work on the name of the program to be more church friendly.
So, for all those that have problems with that horrible Caps Lock button, look forward to my simple program to help you get off to a brighter, less stressful year.
I believe that Mr. Glass' comment on better communication referred to the fact that he believes citizens should keep up with what their elected representatives are doing. In this case my opinion is that he means this can be done by the public attending the monthly county commissioners meetings and asking questions.
"AND I PRAY YOU GO TO CHURCH SOMEWHERE THIS SUNDAY AND YOURE ALWAYS WELCOME AT ROCK SPRINGS --- THE PERFECT PLACE FOR PEOPLE THAT ARENT. "
You are saying Rock Springs is a perfect place for people who are not people?
Some of the biggest ripoff artists in the world and most oppressive leaders do so under the name of God. I've seen people who never come to church at all start to show up during a campaign, but when elected they can't manage to get out of bed on Sunday. I know a contractor who has God all over his advertising and cards, prays every workday morning with his employees, and then instructs his office staff to rip off customers by billing the same materials for multiple jobs.
What we need is common sense, fairness, ability to stand up for what is right, and honesty. Going to a certain church does not make someone capable of being a leader. It doesn't even help teach them when to turn off capital locks.
I wonder if Charles Glass is merely saying that the chairman can share and discuss his ideas before he goes ahead and does something without the other commissioners knowing about it?
Such as hiring someone to fill a vacancy?
My Jesus don't like all that yelling. Not from someone named Anonymous. He says if you are ashamed to advertise for him, he will be ashamed of you at the real Judgment.
See comment 5.2. We have too many rock problems now.
We lost our jobs because we embraced and continue to embrace unfair trade.
Anyone who budgets a household or runs a business knows that sooner or later the business or household will go broke if more money goes out than comes back in. The same applies to countries and counties.
In about ten years our manufacturing jobs went from 30% to 10%. Our food production is way down also.
If we look at I-pods, about 2/3 of the I-pod related jobs are overseas. The people running the show for us will tell us those Chinese I-pods support the 1/3 of jobs here, and those overseas jobs are "low paid manufacturing jobs", and we have "high paid jobs like sales and engineering". In truth sales and engineering is a few percent of the budget, and most of the engineering is in India. What we have in the USA are mostly low pay sales jobs and a few high pay management jobs.
If we look at the actual costs of an I-pod, most of the money exchanged is related to overseas manufacturing and engineering and not sales wages or engineering wages in the USA.
We are bleeding ourselves dry in jobs and money by sending it all overseas while our leaders and businesses tell us how good it is for us to do that. This is why we will not ever recover.
People who worked in manufacturing at Carters would love to have those low paying manufacturing jobs back from Mexico and China.
