Lamar County schools will be closed for a third straight day Wednesday due to inclement weather and poor road conditions.

Classes at Gordon College and St. George's Episcopal School are also cancelled.

All Wednesday night activities at Rock Springs Church are also cancelled.

I had a court date for yesterday which was tuesday, it got cancelled and i couldn't get intouch with anybody about whether or not it will be moved to tomorrow or when it will be. Anybody Know about this?

The school will be closed on Wednesday but classes will be held this Saturday and the next Saturday to make up the lost days. Next week will be a six day school week. Buses will run as normal to get the kids to school. More details Thursday.

This isn't fair. Some families may have already made plans for something else. Why don't they make these days up during the next time they get a week out of school...I think it may be in February.

I was just stirring the pot. It seemed like it was mostly the kids commenting about how great it was being out of school that I thought they could use a simple lesson in physics in that for every action there is a reaction. I bet that little white lie settled some of that joyous excitement. They need to learn early in life that in the real world there is no payday for a snow day. Some of your parents may have 1 to 3 days less pay and that might mean some allowance money will not be forth coming. Just food for thought!

No, you were just lying. There is no such thing as a white lie - a lie is a lie. You are not the Superintendent, any member of the Central Office staff,LC administrators, or LC teachers/staff. These kids are relishing in the unexpected joy of "snow days." Surely you remember such when you were younger. Adults are aware that Walter will post any additional school day closings, and the school system will contact families by the automated phone messaging system. You with your "lesson in physics, stirring the pot, and little white lies" need to spend your energy elsewhere. Stop being such a "kill-joy" and let the kids actually have some outdoor snow fun.

that's nice, they send all the local road crews up north and leave the locals to defend for themselves. Maybe they should keep the Barnesville Ga dot up there when they get finished with them. Not much getting done around here anyway. :(

The state of Ga DOE allows the students 4 days without making them up. Today is the 3rd day they have been out.I can only hope that Dr Truby will use these days as state alloted. The teachers will have to make up the time.As they must work 190 days per their contracts. I hope they don't touch the Feb break as I like many other families in this county have made and paid for family getaways.. At this late date there are no refunds or date adjustments allowed.

Actually no, I just do not like liars. I am a Conservative Republic thank you. I believe in God as my Savior. I believe in the right to bear arms. I believe in disciplining your own child. I believe that too much criticism is put on the education system when they have to compensate for parents not doing their job which gives way to unruly kids and lack of respect for adults. But I must say, this does not account for the majority of families, only the ones that always gripe about how poor condition of the educational system. I believe you work for what you get. That's just a few of my beliefs, but like I said before, I do not like nor do I tolerate liars.
This is the reason others are making sarcastic comments about questioning Saturday school days and "your pants being on fire."

Did not the school board set make up days before the school year started?
Did not the parents recieve a calender when the school year began with prospecitive make up days?
Who is this Lisa Parker? I do hope that she is corrected, it does sound like she has over stepped her bounds.
Children are children for only a SHORT 18 years. Let them ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT! Think of it this way we are adults for 50 plus years.

All those drugs and all that alcohol of the past (or present) must really be affecting some people's common sense. What started out as poking fun at the kids for snow days and make-up days apparently has uncovered some serious mental deficiencies of some people.

To; Get over Yourself,
You have identified yourself as a form of government which gives you the right to establish law in your own mind. I'm also happy that you have been blessed with the ability to judge others but I don't think that is taught in Christian teachings. Maybe you should take another look at yourself or maybe that is going to give you extra credit when you pass over to the other side? Better pick up and toss your stones now. And last but not least, the education system broke when it was raped by the federal government. Teachers hands are tied and parents just don't care enough to return the education system back to the states. Congradulations to you. It must really feel good being a ledgend in your own mind. Being that you are a form of government with judgemental abilities, maybe you can make some changes.

Your comment would have been amusing if you left off the condescending remark at the end.

A form of government? Not quite. The Second Admendment give a person the right to bear arms.

As far as the judging comment based upon the verse is Matthew 7:1, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." Some use it without realizing its true meaning and others, Christian and non Christians, use it to avoid accountability.

If judging others is unchristian as you charge, we would be unable to have the various levels of government, we would be unable to be a good parent, we would certainly make a poor employer, none of us would be able to sit on a jury and the list goes on.

I was just pointing out the obvious for others who to your comment as face value. Obviously, these were adults that uses the paper as a source of school closing.

Yes, noone is perfect or even anywhere remotely close to it. I shouldn't have said I can't stand liars. I should have said that I can't stand their ways not the person himself.

First of all a Republic is a form of government. It is what the United States is. Second; nothing was mentioned condemning firearms ownership. Third; you obviously missed the boat about judgment but since you brought it up, take a look at things now. That is the result of men and women assuming the judgmental roles and tossing God from school and government. As for those obvious adults using this commenting section as a source of school closing, where is there mental capacity to accept that this was an admitted hoax intended for kids to consider consequences associated with uncontrollable actions without just the idea of fun days. Finally, Get over Yourself, why do you hide behind anonymous now? Is it because it is difficult to retrieve a stone you have already tossed?
