Authorities are not commenting but multiple eyewitnesses are reporting a man was shot by security guards at Horton"s Rendezvous Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Bystanders identified the man as Anthony Scott of Thomaston. That also has not been confirmed. He is reportedly at the Medical Center of Central Georgia after having been lifeflighted from the nightclub.

Sheriff Larry Waller has issued a statement on the shooting. It reads as follows:

A shooting occurred at Horton’s Rendezvous on Sunday Morning January 22, 2011 at approximately 1:45 am. The case is still under investigation so no further details are being released at this time.

I know that if it were anyone else other than the Hortons that owned this nightclub, it would have been shut down 20 years ago. We cant even have a decent pool hall in barnesville because they are sooooo concearned that there may be a joint coming in or out every once in a while. The "crows nest" has been out of control for years and years and they know it. There is all kinds of stuff that goes on out there that gets over looked.

Ok I totally disagree the Crow's Nest has always ran there club some what of fair. They don't allow drugs in the club, they stop ppl who only want 2 fight or r fighting, and they also communicate with cops who r outside 2 mention. They have 2 protect there self so if a gun was pulled the guard did what was needed 2 b done. Dang young black youth already have nothing or no where 2 go in Barnesville 2 stay out of trouble or 2 have a good time don't take that 2.

That place needs to be shut down and the county commissioner needs to vacate that seat for keeping a place like that open. It is certainly not as innocent of a place as they would like everyone to think. It's a damn dive and drugs and alcohol do get used there.

lamar county is one of the most crooked countys in the state. this entire town works off the good ole boy network, meaning if your not in with someone on the police sheriffs or judicial system your screwed. the majority of the police are involved in illegal matters even in uniform or know about them but they turn their head because they are getting a piece of the action. none of the police down here do anything but sit at the gas stations and f*** off. the judicial system isnt worried about anything but getting their money and walking away. thats why you see so many people walk away from serious charges, because they pay off the DA or the judge. Lamar county needs a major make over and it needs to start at the top.

i don't disagree with you about the make over but you honestly have proof of these illegal dealings your say our law enforcement is involved in? if you don't then i would watch how you point your finger... whether they sit at the gas station or on the side of the road they are doing their job to protect us including you! would you rather have them sit at the sheriff's department pushing pencils and not patrolling our streets?

If you are going to tell something tell the truth. You walk in the club not only do you smell marijuana, but they do not check to see if you have a state I.D so they can see how old you are. There where kids as young as 15 in the club at the time of this shooting. The security guard is not a police officer and had no business with a gun. Under age drinking is allowed and go on at this club all the time. So don't paint the picture that this hole in the wall that you call a club is run properly. You say our black youth have nowhere to go. Wonder why? We think everything has to have a drug or alcohol attached to be down. Well i am here to tell you its a lot of constructive things that we can do without drugs and alcohol which always lead to violence. And I keep saying we because I am a black person since you said we have nowhere to go.

Why would security guards at a bar need guns? That is the most stupid crap Ive heard in a while. That place needs to be shut down. The only reason that it is not is because of the owner. This town is too scared to make waves for fear of a law suit. Law enforcement cant even do road blocks anywhere in the area of that dive....

Its also obvious about the drug dealing that goes on at the store in front of the police department. Someone told me who owns that store and it is a crying shame that they allow all of that crap to go on on their property. What the hell? WHY DONT SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT??? Kenny Roberts??? Chuck Keadle?? Yall scared? Dont you have a narcotics task force...why dont you use them? I know they are just petty dealers and users, but the minimum you can do is keep them from loitering. I know the store owner could do something if he wanted to....guess he dont mind it.

I would like to know which police are involved in illegal matters? Thats such a bold statement. Would you work two or three legitimate jobs if you were doing illegal things? I wouldnt. Almost all of the officers have second jobs, anyone that really knows them knows this. They obviously arent getting enough kickback from all of thier illegal doings...lol. From all of the raunchy signs posted all over town, looks like they have strippers there too. Nice to know our council member runs a fine establishment like this. This isn't the first time there has been gunfire out there. Is it going to take someone getting killed, for something to be done about that place???

And before I get bashed for talking bad about the crows nest, let me be the first to say there is nothing wrong with owning a club....if you run it properly. IF, and I say IF there is illegal activity is going on, then it should be closed down or at least monitored by law enforcement. Horton should be the first person to stand up and allow that to happen.

No matter white or black, there should be a drug raid ATLEAST once a week here in Lamar County. This place is over flowing with drugs. If we could get the people in town to pull over people like the boys do out on the interstate, that would bring a lot of fear into the citizens in reference to running drugs around this town.

I have never seen any police on the property out there. I have been there a couple of times in the last 15 years. The Hortons may not condone that type of activity but certainly knows it goes on out there. Hell, with the crowd that it attracts, they may be scared to say something to the people out there because of situations similar to this one.

If the Crow's Nst is so good and all, they would not let under age kids in. i feel they need to shut it down or treat them like any other club establishment. While the cops are out writin tickets for everything else, they need to patrol the "Nest" as they call it and arrest people for letting to many people ino one plavce and for 14 and 15 year old in a club. However, the cops may be paid to stay clear to take care of the owner. One of those hush hush situatons.

So let's get 2 the truth, Sammie has always check 4 I.D. unless ur a regular and he knows u personally so plz don't lie about that. Sammie is a hard ass on anybody that's y the put him at the door & I've seen him turn plenty of ppl around. The cops r outside waiting 4 drama 2 occur so that shows that they work with the police hand 2 hand. Of course ppl do smoke weed cause they sneak it in but when security catches them hell they stop the music and tell them put it out. The Laws need to change first before the police can do anything about the problems we face. The laws bend over backwards for the criminals and the honest people get screwed. For example: A person has to be caught in the act doing drugs in order to be arrested for it. But if a person is found to have drugs in there system they can not be charged with it. How stupid is that? You know the person did the drugs just not infront of you, but they can't be charged. What a crock of crap! Drugs are drugs and if you do them you should be locked up! Just a taste of what our wonderful laws are like.

That would be violating that persons rights. Do you think you can just call the police and say" hey they are doing drugs or selling drugs at this house, send in the dogs." There has to be proof. What a lawsuit that would turn into.

Criminals have way more rights than anyone else. Until the laws change, the cops will continue to arrest the same people over and over. They get a slap on the wrist and released back into society. Its a revolving door. If I were a betting man, I would bet a fortune that the three men that shot and killed that guy will get off. The cops did their job and caught them. Milam will be stupid enough to hold the trail in this town. Between the tree of those men , they will be related to half of the jury....and after the last few cases, we all know what happens when retards are picked for jury. I see people do nothing but bitch and complain on this blog site about everything. This site needs to be taken down. It does no good for the paper and helps the community in no way. For all the people that want change in the county and city you live in, do something about it. Run for office, protest outside of local offices(get the correct permits), there are appropriate actions that can be taken in cases where you want your town to go a different direction. You have elected officials that you are complaing about. Vote them out. Campaign against them for someone you believe in.

And don't be the idiot that says you can't get a black person in office in Barnesville, b/c that's not true. There are more black people in Barnesville than any other race. It's by a small percentage, but still the largest racial demographic.

As far as underage drinking goes, yes it happens. Ralph or "Black" as he liked to be known bragged about getting ripped at the club in high school. Get real people. It happens. It happens in houses with basements too in white neighborhoods too. Mommy and Daddy supply it and think it's safe since they are there with them. Both scenarios are not a good thing.

What a shame on Lamar County to elect an official that runs a place with this kind of reputation. Business leaders, civic groups, church groups and educators are striving to raise the standards in this community for our youth and one of our commissioners owns this kind of establishment.Shame on you Bennie Horton and your family for contributing to this kind of behavior in our community. To suggest the sheriff should allow his deputies to work this kind of establishment is unbelievable...Hire deputies from another county that want to work...Why was your business still open this time of night? Why should our deputies put their lives on the line at this kind of place when they have to do it everyday...Come on now and step up to the plate and take responsibility for your own place and your own actions...We all know its about the almight dollar. You don't care about this community are you would close this dump down....You know all these young people carry guns..so whats it going to take...the death of one of our officers who have to answer the calls to your place....

The problem of drugs and alcohol is far bigger than Barnesville. As parents, teachers, or as a communinty, we can only do our best to raise our kids right. So many of us are so busy making a living or minding other people's busines that we can't see what's going on in our own house(lives). Why should a person be encarcerated because of partaking in a substance? Which one of your rights were violated by someone taking a toke of $2 worth of pot in the privacy of his/her own home while watching the football game? How are you affected in ANY way by this? I do not do any type of drugs and that includes alcohol. Im just merely suggesting that unless your rights are violated what should it matter to you or the judicial system what a person does in the privacy of their own home or property. I do agree that we dont need drug dealers everywhere. Lock them up. The use of drugs should be up to the person. If you abuse them or operate a motor vehicle then the same penalties would apply as alcohol.

Why are people pointing the blame towards the owners. There are two sides to every story not to mention that the individual that was shot plotted earlier that day to go to the club and go ham. At least the club is providing security for the individuals. You have some clubs that doesn't provide security. I have been to the Horton's Rendezvous and everything I have been asked to show my i.d. and they have used the metal detectors. And I commend them for that because you never know what someone is planning to do. Even if this had of happened somewhere else you will not see as many people commenting. Going to the club is not a bad thing its the people that attend that think they are badder than anyone else and tries to provide it to their peers.

Obviousuly you just answered you own questions as to why its so hard to catch people and you're too stupid to realize it. I also bet you would be screaming from the roof tops if you were stopped and searched without cause.

If you know there is selling going on in the store, why not report it. You are part of the problem if you dont. Better yet, the owner of the store shouldnt allow all of those people to hang out at the store. If they were run off, atleast their dealings wouldnt be so public. I do agree with you on the fact that the city of Barnesville needs to hire more police, especially since we now have all the wanna be thugs at Gordon added to the wanna be thugs that live in Barnesville. Ive been to a lot of bars and have never seen a security guard have a gun. Actually, most bars have bouncers...lol!!!Never have been through a metal detector either. That is sad, and it probably a testament to what happens at that place. I have a simple question. What is the capacity of that building? How many people are allowed in at one time? I have to drive by there going home, and when it is open there are cars lined up and down the road. The parking lot is overflowing. It looks like it could be a safety issue or maybe the building is bigger than it looks...

Why you are so right. The Crow's Nest is one of the finest nightclubs in the metro Atlanta area. At least once or twice a month several of my girlfriends and I go there for the luxury experience- martinis, good music, pleasant company, and excellent clientele. When we finish there, we like to go to the gas station across the tracks and hang out with some of Barnesville's finest. And people say there's nothing to do in B'ville!

I have been to this club multiple times and they always ask me for my id!The first time i went i was turned around for not having my id.The owners should not get in any trouble because the security was trying to protect himself as well as the people who was at the club..The gun was never in the club this all took place outside for the person who said something about guns not being aloud around alcohol.Alcohol is not served there..They only serve beer and win anyways!And if weed is smoked in the club the dj stops the music and says "no weed smoking in the club" and the person caught smoking it gets kicked out.For the person who said they bought beer on a sunday in the 70's, the Horton's didnt even own the club then!

If you have never been to that establishment SHUT UP. Dang people always talking about what they dont know. sometimes it is best to just keep your opinions to yourself. Closing that place is not going to solve anything. They will simply just find somewhere else in barnesville to hang and the activity continues. as for underage kids being there why is someones 14 to 16 yr old child out that late in the first place. Now thats the parents problem. #seriously grow up people

Well we definitely dont want them people hanging out anywhere else in Barnesville. The parking lot at the gas station is already full enough and that damn tree behind it usually has a lot of people hanging out under it. Its lovly to know what all of our tax dollars are paying for. The problem is not so much with the people that goes to the club as it is with the ownership allowing such things to go on at the club, if in fact they do. Closing the establishment will only create another one somewhere else.

The law says that the owner is responsible for the patrons. It continues that if a patron leaves the establishment and finds an accident or trouble because of intoxication, the owner can be held accountable.

One way to solve the problem is for local law enforcement to force the owners to clean up their act. (No Pun Intended). Hold the ownership responsible for laws that are broken and levy heavy fines or alcohol license suspensions: In the event of illegal drugs, potential jail time. The law is already on the side of the community and it is up to the law to figure out how to enforce it.

Maybe they can start hanging out at Giant Mart like the rest of the young youth who never get harass and sniff meth and get high and by there weed from the black youth. I see it all the time at the convient stores and especially Walmart parking lot. Just sit in your car long enough in a parking lot and watch how they meet.

The night club is a disgrace. The owners should be ashamed earning money in that manner. And the church where they attend should be ashamed for knowingly accepting any offering earned by that establishment
