Georgia does not have enough water. Georgia does not have enough transportation infrastructure. Georgia does not have enough jobs. But by God we have "Go Fish." Thanks Governor Sonny.
Things will never again, be as it once was, because too many other things have changed forever. The manufacturing jobs, as we once knew them, will never return. Technology has made certain of that. Doing it quicker, cheaper, better, has always been the game. Technology has created this situation and technology can again change it to our favor. The question is: Do we, as a nation, have the collective mindset to get it done. If so, then many more things must change, including how and what we value life. I have never believed the bumper sticker that says “He who dies with the most toys wins”. It depicts materialism at its worse. I believe it should say, “He who knows what he wants, knows how to get it and then wants what he has…wins”
Did you know that if you're American, you cannot take a job from a Mexican citizen? So, if you think you can move to Mexico and find a job, you can forget about that.
I suppose if your company moves there and needs you in a management position, that might be different.
Yay for NAFTA, huh?
I saw on tv. Closed in Barnesville and Griffin. Georgia Department of Labor said...
Now 8.7 percent
2009 9.4 percent
2010 10.7 percent
2011 12.1 percent
Don't vote Obama in 2012.
No, Obama did not cause this; neither did Bush. I'd say the majority of this started in 94 with NAFTA. Guess who was president in 94? Clinton! In all fairness to Clinton (what little I can muster), NAFTA was proposed and passed at the request of the American automakers, so they could take advantage of cheap Mexican labor. Remember the old saying, "be careful of what you wish for, you may just get it."
if Barnesville would get out of the horse and buggy days, stop holding the town back -then maybe we could get a walmart or more retail chains through out to bring more jobs.we can forget about that though..and the elder people here have most of everything they need due to their families been born and bread here generation after generation.all available jobs that do open up are givin to yet another family member or some "good ol boy" and thats the way it will always be! what a shame though because as we try so hard to keep it from growing and we think we can keep the southern charms of a small town, well look at the papers..look at the drugs and crime, not to mention how many families are at defcs needing food stamps and help, just to be looked at and shamed for not having a job!!! does anyone see where the circle keeps going around and around?maybe its just me!
