Moose Club shooter gets 15 years

John (Big John) Holcomb was sentenced to 15 years in prison in Spalding County superior court Wednesday for the July 27, 2008 shooting death of Bruce Knowles. The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Griffin Moose Lodge.

If they would have left him alone, he would have gone home and everything would have been fine. Wow! What a statement to say about yourself in court. What a damn idiot! He deserves more than 15 years for this crap. He was going to commit a crime and drive while intoxicated until they stopped him. Maybe he could have drove home and caused a family of four to run off the road to keep from killing his stupid drunk ass

the wonderful judicial system in this area. Anyone want to bet that Reginal Tamplin gets more time for crack and weed than this drunk redfaced redneck got for killing another man.

This guy was went before a different court district because of where the MURDER was committed. Believe it or not, there is a D.A. worse than the one in Barnesville.

15 years is all this man gets for taking anothers life?!? What kind of Justice is that... 15 years wont do anything to ease the pain of the victims family! reguardless if he was drinking or not, he is a grown man and it is his responsibility to make sure he is "SOBER" enough to make good judgement! I dont care how drunk he was that shooting was not involuntary...it all goes back to responsibility! I pray for that family and hope that He gets what he deserves before he gets out of prison

My uncle John is not an idiot, idiot. He was drunk and made a terrible awful mistake that he truly regrets. It was proven in court that his hand was grabbed while pointing the gun up in the air and that is when the gun went off. The guy that grabbed his hand should be in prison halfing the sentence with John. He should have never grabbed the gun, and made it go off. Get the facts before you run your mouth idit.

Tragic story.
I do hope the shooter is remorseful that he took his friend's life. That would be a punishment that would be hard to bear.
Guns, alcohol, drugs and a hot head. Bad combination.

Please tell me how do you make a gun go off? You have to have the gun in your hand and your finger on the trigger. The man trying to take the gun did not have his finger on the trigger, and if the gun was pointing in the air, how did the man get shot? Unless, the man holding the gun pointed the gun at the man, pulling the trigger, causing a bullet to come out and hit the man killing him. No one deserves time in jail other than the one that went to jail, and he should have received life in prison!

I'm sure you love your uncle, but this was all his doing. He is the one who chose to drink. He is the one who chose to have a loaded hand gun while out drinking. He is the one who chose to put others at risk.

I'm sure you love him, but please keep this in mind as you go through life. The time to do something for someone we love is before they hurt someone else. Your energy would have been better spent asking your uncle to get help with his drinking before he killed himself or someone else. The best way to spend your energy would have been before he shot someone by telling him guns and drinking don't mix.

Make something positive out of this. If you know another alcoholic sitting in a room full of guns drinking or who goes drinking while carrying a pistol encourage him to get help.

Having spent many of my early years in the company of this man and his constituents I assure you this is typical of his and their reasoning. Civilization is creeping in men... it's time to grow up.

I don't know if the family of the man who was killed will see this but it's worth a shot. Hi, it's Katherine. You may not remember me b/c it has been a few years but I just wanted to send my condolences. I had no idea this happened. He was really a good man. My prayers are with you! I'm sorry I haven't sent my condolences sooner!
