Lamar County’s population increased by 15.11% during the period 2000 to 2010, according to U.S. Census data extrapolated by Three Rivers Regional Commission personnel.

I knew whites were a minority in the city of barnesville but I didnt think it was that much. This explains the spike in crimes over the last 10 years.
Lets see the pike numbers. I bet they arent anywhere near us. I guess I will have to go to the Pike website to see that.

We won. Big city. Lamar County's Population 18,317, Barnesville's Population 6,755, Milner's Population 610 and Aldora's population 103. And Gordon College hits 5,009 students.

Pike County's population 17,869.

Colored folks???? are these folks inside of a crayon box? I think you are referring to African Americans, a race...In terms of color, there is not someone who is black or white, those are colors, not races...Caucasian is a race, I have not seen and neither have you seen a Caucasian who is actually white, more like pinkish, reddish...Now if i were to describe the Caucasian race with a color, I would say pink, red, etc(those are colors my friend, and I hope you get my point)...colored is an archaic term used during the days of yore by uneducated and uncivilized caucasian southerners...

No, the ones coming from the West on 18 into Lamar are from Meriwether. They pass on through Pike to get to you fine folks with your fine houses and sterling place settings.

What exactly is an African American? How many generations removed from Africa do you have to be to finally become a full American?

Excellent question! Actually an African American is defined as an African Citizen born in Africa, and gained their citizenship in America. I know this will be difficult for some to grasp, however you do have White African Americans; that would be a Caucasian Citizen (white) born in Africa, and gained citizenship in America.

I knew an African American once. She was white. Born in Africa, became an American citizen. So, why do you want to call yourself African American? Shouldn't we all call ourselves Americans and be the generation to finally kill racism? Yes we are all different, but we have to start somewhere. Crime hits every race. Crime is committed by every race. I personally am sick and tired of everyone blaming the other. Grow up. The blame starts with you and me. Do your part and stop acting like children. Respect each other and others lives and property and racism will die. Forgive and forget or it will never get better. I didn't own slaves. I did have a black man kill one of my cousins. I forgave him. He will answer to God, not me. Enough is enough.

Thank you for those words....but, the only true Americans are the Native Americans...everybody else either came here by force or immigrated over...i.e. Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, etc...Some of us like to describe ourselves by our heritage. That is in no way indicative of racism or dislike of your country..It is just those negative and archaic terms that exemplify racism on the part of some. I am not colored, black, or a negro..I am an African American and proud to be such.

Political Paul, you are absolutely right! The NAACP was created and named by a group of white liberals. The organization consisted of about 60 poeple, and 7 of those people were Black Americans. The group was formed in response to the horrible practices of lynching and other voilent acts committed against Black Americans.

You are very right Sheila....but, the NAACP was started eons ago when the term colored was supposedly politically correct..I guess they never saw fit to changed to the National Association for the Advancement of African Americans...and your point? I am still not colored, but an African American...Get Over It and Research your European heritage,i would begin somewhere near the caves of the "Caucus" mountains....

Don't get ticked at me buddy. I have more Black American friends than I do white ones. I think there is too much emphasis put on every word related to all races. I look at it as a group of vowels and syllables. Be a Martian, if you please. But, get off my white, cracker, redneck, white trash, etc. ass. My Black friends do not hate the BIG, BAD, "N" word....they do not like the SLAVE word.

You know, just because a person has black skin doesn't necessarily make the person a descendent of Africa. Black skin is located throughout the world. An example could be New Guinea. I wonder how many African Americans are actually New Guinea Americans, or perhaps Caribbean Americans or Australian Americans. And if you believe in evolution and the origin of man then every human is a descendent of Africa so everyone is an African American. No; the term African Americans is used for only one purpose and that purpose is to identify that person with black skin with the likely intent to receive special recognition. Nothing derogatory intended. It is an observation I have become accustomed to over the years of witnessing reversed discrimination and continuous racial unrest. I am of the opinion that so called African Americans do not want racial equality: They want special treatment mainly from a race that has tried to end discrimination and promote equality.

You obviously missed the point. You are segregating yourself. As long as people have that attitude, there will be overwhelming racism. When segregation was being fought, it was being said we are all created equal. We are all americans. Why do you want to go backwards and resegregate. Besides, not every black person is an African American if you use your logic. Some are Jamacan, some are European, you have many other islanders. So what is the point. You know your heritage and I know mine. I don't call myself an Irish American. I am an American. Born in America, so yes, I am a true American. We have our own country. We have the responsibility to make it the best it can be. So, the point is stop acting as if we are all different and start living like we are all brothers and sisters. I respect you like you were my own blood. It's time for you to start treating me the same way. This goes for black, white, red and yellow. Everybody needs to stop acting like savages. Stop killing. Stop robbing. Stop fighting. Grow up.

Ms. Shirley...Thank you...It is quite rare to have someone with any type of intelligence on this blog...I cannot believe at times that the Herald Gazette would print such garbage..They seem to print every anti-African American blog they receive, but never quite the opposite...Even if the opposite contains the truth....A lot of this boils down to us having an African American President, but might as well get over it, because he will serve another four years...Reading some of this blogs from Caucasians would make you think it is 1811 instead of 2011..once again thank you...

Pull your head out Sheila. You know that you have to be more specific than that. They might be Pacific Ocean Americans, Atlantic Ocean Americans, Indian Ocean Americans, or Arctic Ocean Americans. But my favorite is if they are flying over the Southern Ocean. That would make them Southern Ocean Americans or maybe (Waterlog Rednecks). They could be like the president and not even know where they are born. We can just refer to them as Lying Americans.

Sheila, Sheila, Sheila...So your African American friends do not hate the "N" word, but rather the term "slave"...They must live in one of your trailers on your plantation, if they are in that state of mind. Having those type of friends does not exempt you from obvious racist overtones that you possess..seems like something less friends...Do you whip them? or deny them basic human rights..Evidently Polly has been denied her chance at education..tell her that But is not the same as Butt in the way she was using it...Stop denying your African American friends an education Sheila...better yet, you truly need to join them in pursuing some type of education, Sheila you cannot continue the rest of your life with a second grade education, and you try to have the audacity to discuss political issues on this blog...A mind is a terrible thing to waste hillbilly!!!!

The next time someone calls you white...you correct them and say that white is a color, not a race...and if they refer to you as white, it would not be racist..A racist is one who loves his race, but hates another one..I am so tired educating people on this blog...Think before you speak, or just simply educate yourself on a subject...It makes a big difference and will not make you sound like an uneducated MORON!!!!

If you are going to educate then learn the subject. You say, "you correct them and say that white is a color". That statement can only be partly true when you introduce light into the equation. However, when you are basing the term on pigment; then white isn’t a color. It is the absence of all color.

Clear light is the presence of all colors. You can separate them by wavelength using a prism and get a spectrum (rainbow). When you're talking pigment, it's the absence. You can't mix all your paints together and get white.
