has there been any word as to how big this tornado was? i saw some of the damage on old milner road near 18 and what i would assume was the tornado's path was huge.
are there people still missing?
thank you for covering this they way you have, mr. walter... you've made it so we all know what happened last night to the best of your ability and you've given us some light as to what will happen during the recovery so we're not in the dark. i really appreciate that.
The thing I notice the most is that the town is banding together instead of all the BULL crap negative racist BS most peeps post. It sure is nice to see the decent people trying to help and make comments instead of all the other crap that goes on on this blog that makes us look IDIOTS!! We ALL need to help the ones that suffered and keep the positive thoughts going....Way to go Bville!!!
After driving around and looking at all the damage and just judging by the path of the tornado I would have to say that it was a strong F3 to a weak F4 but it still has not be decided on how big it was. My wife and I heard the tornado and we live on Tom Bell road in Milner. My heart goes out to everybody in this time of need.
Thank you for all of the great coverage of the aftermath. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. There are a lot of us who would love to help in any way that we can, but the emergency line continued to stay busy today. If anyone has any ideas please let us know how we can help. May God continue to bless each and everyone of us and wrap his loving arms around those who were affected by this devastation.
the national weather center has determined that it was an F3.. with 140 mph winds.. half a mile wide.. and it was on the ground for about 30 miles over 4 counties.
Whew, it's been one of those audio chopping weeks. This audio is taken from scanner traffic as the tornado is coming through Barnesville.

I want to take this time to thank all emergency personnel. Here you will hear three fire units giving updates as the tornado is either hitting their home, or knocking on their door. You will also hear two Sheriff Deputies as it sounds they are right beside the twister trying to get to the first emergency call. We often take these emergency personnel for granted, so on behalf of all Lamar County I want to say thank you.
It was stated that the wind shears were up to 127 MPH. So that's about a EF3 weak EF4. I'm still in shock about how close it hit to home. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the families.
We were in the direct hit path and has severe damage as well. I would like to thank 2 nearby neighbors for venturing out to see if everyone around them was okay and the firefighters who also managed to get up to our home to check on us. After seeing the property entrance from the roadside view, I'm not sure how they even knew there was a residence up there. It was horrible, my child, pets (including horses), and myself had no injuries. But our nerves are all understandably shot. If there are any more volunteers around that can help move/drag a couple big trees so we can get our belongings out, please give me a call. Marla: 770-584-9554
my condolences to the family of ellen and paul gunter. what a gracious and giving couple. they were devoted to rescuing and caring for animals with their own money and we'll miss them.
I posed a question on my Facebook page about the possibility of local musicians (band, solo artists, etc.) coming together to put on a benefit concert to raise money for those who lost during this week's devastation storm. My vision is to hold an all day, outdoor concert featuring locals who will play out of the goodness of their heart. I'd like to see about getting Summers Field Memorial Stadium, The Rock Ranch or some other large local outdoor venue to hold this at and give it a catchy name like BENEFEST. I am getting tons of positive response on my FB page and several local and area artists have already "committed" to play. I would like to hear more feedback on this. Please post here in response or visit my FB page at http://www.myspace.com/kenkgreen. Thanks!!!
New facebook page to help put together people in need with those willing to help. please pass it around and let us know if you know of someone needing help. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Barnesville-Caring-Hearts-and-Sharing-Hands/181160595267067
Members of our soccer team (Lamar County Storm) want to offer help with the clean-up tomorrow (sat, 4/30). Little hands CAN make a difference - we need to know if there is an organized list of who needs help (food, water, yard/debree clean-up). Please email me with any information. [email protected]
Thank you to all of the law enforcement, fire and emergency personnel who showed (and are showing) great courage and true professionalism during this time of devastation in our community. You are proof that Lamar County has above average citizenship and great humanity. God bless each of you.
It is still very sobering to consider how close we were to the tornado. We are in Ashley Oaks and uncomfortably close, yet no one hardly lost a shingle. Our power was out much of the day but back on in the afternoon. I am thankful yet so disturbed about the deaths and property losses. I hope that Barnesville never, ever again experiences such a terrible thing.
The hospitality and emotional support that y'all gave to the troops of the GSDF was without equal. In all the years that I have been involved in both the military and the GSDF I cannot recall a time when we have been welcomed, and supported by all facets of the community to the extent we were shown by Lamar County. I would like to personably thank Sheriff Waller, the County Commissioners, the EMA and LEA for the logistical support. In addition, the Salvation Army support of both the troops and families of Lamar County is to be commended. To all citizens of Lamar County that worked so hard to feed us and to make sure we had plenty of water and more.....thank you.........the troops stated that "they have never worked so hard and gained so much weight"......Whoever made the Peach Cobbler there is a soldier wanting desperately to meet you :)
Thank you so very much for making me so proud to be a Georgian.

Please do not have Rudy Giuliani tour the damage....Rudy Giuliani needs to just go away!!!!!!!!!!! he is a washed up 9-11 salesman. he will use the victims for his own political gain just like he did in NYC.
