IDA executive director Missy Kendrick, who as a CERT team member was at the forefront of tornado rescue efforts early Thursday, reported today the Chamber of Commerce is taking over coordination of relief efforts in the aftermath of last week's killer twister.

We can be very proud of our friends and neighbors who are helping those affected by the tornado. We can be especially proud of our young people who are doing all they can to help. It shows that there are still "good" kids out there. May God bless all those helping with the clean up and bless those suffering from this tragedy.

Savannah - Thank you for giving your time and effort to help in this difficult situation. I am so proud of the missionary and volunteer work you do. Always remember that we who are so blessed need to give back by helping those less fortunate. I love you. Aunt BB

What do we have county emergency services for if the chamber is going to do the job for them? This sounds very political to me.

Our community owes a huge debt of gratitude to Glen McDonald for his coordination work before today. What people don't know is that Glen wouldn't go home - even though his home was damaged, too! All everyone else knew was that when they called, he answered. Thank you, Glen and Billy and Becky and all of the CERT team members such as Bob Heiney, Richard Smith and Charles Glass for continuing to work so hard.

Found a female black lab puppy on Gordon Road near water treatment plant. It is well cared for and may be separated from it's owners due to the tornado. Please call 770-358-7629 to claim. Or is there a special shelter for lost pets due to the tornado?

Does the Chamber do ANYthing that isn't terribly political? Do citizens even benefit from their existence? I don't think so...

Why don't you put your knowledge of the citizen's benefits to work? Since you are obviously informed as to what the needs of our citizens are, VOLUNTEER! Help the Chamber make a positive impact in our community - HELP them and in doing so, turn the negativity into good energy! Lord knows we all need it these day. You can do it - I know you can! I'm pulling for you!

Although we don't see eye-to-eye about the type of businesses brought to Lamar and the IDA in general, that's a specific issue dealing only with that issue.

You are a generous person, as are all those who are helping with the aftermath of the tornado. Way to go Missy and Chamber.

Ignore the anonymous hecklers. If they had anything truthful to say, they would use their names.

What is CERT???

I just want to say my love ,thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. I was very honored to be a part of your bbq & music fest. i had left only hrs it seems before the storm. i can only say thank you, and hope - no will to see you in the future again, god bless you all!

I am very glad to see the Chamber take an active role in coordinating the local effort that can assist so many of our citizens. As for the Emergency Management Agency, I called them on Thursday morning offering the assistance of myself and my husband and was told they had NO need for any help. I pressed on, that surely I could help with food preparation and delivery out to those working at the damaged sites. Still......no, no help needed. In fact, I was told there was too much devastation on Grove St. for people to even eat out there.....they would have to come out to eat. I found out later, that many groups including Chic-fil-A, Subway, and many individual groups have been on-scene handing out food every day. I left my name and number with the Director and asked to please be called if there was ANY way we could help. No call has come. We finally just made arrangement with friends who lost everything on Grove Street to help them on Saturday as well as making monetary donations. So, I say.....good for the Chamber. Thank you Amanda and Missy for stepping up and taking on a very difficult job of finding and filling the needs of our people who are hurting.

For those interested, CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. We are an organization of volunteer emergency workers who have received specific training in basic disaster response skills, and who agree to supplement existing emergency responders in the event of a major disaster ore a search and rescue operation.

More CERT team members are needed, so if you are interested in attending training, please call Billy Campbell at the EMA office so that he can contact you for the next training. He can be reached at 770-358-5166.
