So, now will the people who REALLY need food stamps be able to get them now? Probably most of the people who had damage from the tornados actually WORK for a living and don't qualify for food stamps. Since they have lost everything, will they qualify NOW? Or,do they have to be n'er do wells like the rest of em?
Agreed. I still work and my salary remains the same so I wouldn't qualify even though we lost so much. And if you have renter's insurance ... guess what? FEMA bucks you just as well for being a responsible person. I would really like to be allowed to stop paying taxes to support programs for people who do not take responsibility for their own responsibilities. Seriously. Our government is very wrong on so many levels.
you should keep your mouth shut,,i hope you are not really as ignorant as you sound. i agree there are people that take advantage of the system, but not everyone recieving food stamps is unemployed. alot of people including myself WORK to pay our bills. i work everyday busting my butt to take care of my family and yes i recieve foodstamps. do i plan to stay on foodstamps? NO. but i have to admit that while my family is strugling from week to week its nice to know that they arent going to starve.
Has it ever occured to you that there are many people who have lost their jobs, are searching desperately for another one and have had to resort to food stamps just to feed their family. I hope that it never happens to you, so that someone as arrogant as you would not have to be so humbled.
OK so explain this to me.... A couple years I was working, single parent with three children. I made too much for Food Stamps and other programs. I figured it up..... I would have came out better getting fired and staying at home. (but I didn't and we managed) So where is the incentive for people to do what's right, if they are going to be penalized for trying???? Our welfare system punishes those that try to better themselves and rewards those that don't.
to NO-name, i too a couple of years ago was a single parent, but with two kids and couldnt get approved for any type of help. i believe there are issues with the system that could be better and it shouldnt feel like we are getting punished for doing whats right, but with that said it is also wrong for people like #1 from above to stereotype. and like #2 from above said not everyone on foodstamps is unemployed. my sister has three kids and both her and her husband work, they are barely making it(but making it), they are awesome parents and love their children dearly and would do anything for them. i'm certain they dont want to be on foodstamps but because they want whats best for their family they are.
again, you are assuming that only people who dont try receive food stamps. congrats on being over income. it means you are doing better than millions of americans :)
Did it ever occur that you may have planned a bit better and then when you worked you could afford to pay for yourself and your family without foodstamps. In almost every instance in life you can trace your predicament straight back to decisions you made, be it dropping out of high school, not getting higher education, having children at young age and so many more decisions for which people in this country are unwilling to take personal responsibility.
The point I was making was that in MY case. I would have been better off getting fired and not working. My income minus health care and daycare and groceries was less (by about $100 a month) then what I could have received if I had gotten fired. Then received full welfare benefits.
And to top it off, I was in Giant Mart one day. The lady in front of me has a buggy full of steaks and ribs, pays for it with her foodstamp card, then has the bag boy load it up in her new Escalade.
So no, I am not "assuming that only people who dont try receive food stamps." BUT there are a lot of people abusing the system. A system that rewards those that don't try and penalizes those that do.
And if your sister or her husband got a small part time job to try to get a little ahead. Their foodstamp benefits would be cut. There are good honest people on food stamps. Nothing wrong with that. But there are a lot of folks that don't even try to work, don't even try to better themselves, food stamps and other subsidies is a way of life. They abuse the system. I think those are the ones people are tired of supporting.
Want to get a little more upset with the government handout system that the hardworking people pay for??? Check out this video from FoxI-Team Investigation...
TANF Debit Card Abuse
ATLANTA, Ga. - "It's a story certain to drive some taxpayers to drink: needy families using your tax dollars in Georgia liquor stores. The original idea is to give direct cash help for needy children to pay for necessities like food, medicine, or clothes. But I-Team reporter Randy Travis discovered there is no way to make sure the money is helping anyone.
The program replaced the old welfare system years ago. Now, a poor family must be carefully screened, show that they're seeking work, and prove that there are children in need. But, the supervision seems to end when the cash arrives."

I work at a grocery store, and i agree that some people need food stamps, i just dont understand how some people can have $900 dollars on their card! what are they feeding the whole community?
I too work in a grocery store and it truly irks me to see the kind of people who use their EBT cards to buy any knod of junk food that they want. They are also allowed to buy birthday cakes salads and other cold convience foods with their cards while I as a working person does without because I choose not to take advantage of people who work for what they have. IT IS DEFINATELY TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP TAKING FROM THE WORKING CLASS TO REWARD THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO KEEP LAYING ON THEIR BACKS MAKING MORE WELFARE BABIES. I see people that I work with who I know make as much if not more than I do using food stamps.
You know, I really wish people would stop acting like food is just a luxury, IT IS A NECESSITY! you need it to survive! If you people who complain about people who get food stamps suddenly lose your jobs because of this economy too, you will also need to eat! The need for food doesn't just go away because you fall on hard times and just in case you haven't noticed there are more companies laying off than hiring right now, and way more people unemployed than there are jobs!
how about all the people crying about this GET OVER IT! food stamp programs are not going anywhere all you are doing is waisting your energy- stop being so iserable and move ob with life... if you all who are against food stamps are so high and mighty and so financialy well of then the amount of money you put towards food stamps from working should even bother you in the slightest... thhere are starving countries out there with people dying by the minute from hunger... regardless of race or work ethic- how about you look yourself in the mirror everyday and know that you are somewhat helping a child not starve to death in our country and maybe just maybe when judgement day comes you will have one good deed down on your record- selfish assholes is what you all are if my tax dollars are going towards a family in need of food then i can go to bed and sleep at night- not like you all who wish that people would go hungry because you think food stamp programs are wrong.... how about for one day all you assholes go without eating and then see how much it would hurt to really be a struggling child or adult trying to eat to survive, shut your fat asses up and get over it.

Name-calling is not the mature way to handle a difference of opinion.
