Gordon College is on track to tighten considerably its enrollment requirements for fall semester 2011, interim president Shelley Nickel told the Gordon Foundation last month.

This should have been done long ago! It does not state if the ones attending now will be held to the same requirements. I am in hopes that it will. Them perhaps the quality of students will improve!
This is very good to hear. I hope the school is listening to the citizens of Barnesville and hearing their concerns. The citizens feel very negative toward the school because of what the college has turned into by not having enrollment standards. Please also consider criminal backgrounds as a part of the process to help eliminate those with records and on probation from attending and ruining our great community.
Gordon lowered the standards for one reason only,,,TO GET AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY COULD!!! Now it is a school that most of us have become ashamed to have in our county. Wake up, get the trash off campus. When I was in college in the early 70's, you had student loans and maybe if you were lucky, a scholarship. YOU PAID YOUR WAY!!! When are we going to quit taking care of all the lowlifes in society just for the numbers sake. Put the complete prior admission standards back in force, and remember, a college education is not a right, but a privilege. Not to be denied because of race or religion, but also not to be admitted just because of race or religion.
kudos..America will be a better place with more uneducated people roaming the streets. who would collect my garbage? a college educated trash collector? i dont think so. and dont even think about asking for food stamps. there are plenty of perfectly edible scraps in the garbage. my daughter doesnt eat red meat and my dog only likes purina. there will be a treat in the trash on thursday!!
Hopefully this will keep out all those kids that are just coming for a check the government gives them. They move into apartments around our town and cause problems, shootings and alot of violence. Then they never finish school, they are just here for the money.
I was in Giant Mart the other day and it was full of bust'n slack guys and the girls looked like hookers. They walked down from, you guessed it, Gordon! Please say it's gonna get better. One guy even spit on the floor near produce. Do we want this around our food supply.
The big shots are make'n money off keeping those dorms full.
Do a records check and see who owns the dorm. Not Gordon.
Just another under the table deal for political wigs.
That is blatant discrimination and is unjustifiable in any circumstance. Gordon is a public, not private college. If that ever happened, I would have the ACLU down here in a heartbeat.
They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but if I'd known it was so easy to get into Gordon I would've enrolled! Dang...I bet I could've gotten a PELL grant to even pay for it.
i understand that raising requirements improves the lecel at which student learn but to say that raising requirments keep out all the "thugs" is too much. who ever said that blacks werent smarts?!? anyone?!? most of the students in this school sre just here because they can better themselvess by getting a education no matter there race and since this school is mostly black and the graduation percentage is high. you cant blame a whole race/school for something one person did!!
Nisey- hope you are not a Gordon student because if you are, the requirements need to be elevated even more. I'm not saying that you aren't "smarts," but good grief!
