A school-aged girl suffered major facial injuries when the van she was riding in collided with a train early Tuesday morning. She and her mother were taken to Macon Medical Trauma Center.

I have to say that this is not that dangerous of a crossing IF you STOP at the stop signs and look...I see people ALL the time running that stop sign. I stop every time and if you look then you can see for a good distance to know if there is a train coming or not. I am glad that the young girl was not hurt seriously but the driver should have stopped and looked. My prayers are with the young girl for a speedy recovery.
There are stop signs at this crossing, yet most drivers do not stop. Some don't even slow down. I would bet this lady tried to beat the train in order to get her daughter to school. I sincerely hope the child recovers without any problems.
You know there is a stop sign at that crossing. It is there for a reason. You are so lucky that train was moving slow. This could have easily been tragic.
I hope the little girl heals up without problems. What a terrible thing for both mother and child.
Maybe out of this near tragedy people will be more careful at that crossing. I watch people go across that crossing all the time without stopping, listening, and looking. Do they still teach that in driver's classes?
Yes we should all stop, look and listen but my thoughts and prayers are with my friend and her daughter and I hope that they checks out alright and that Baby Girl heals both physically and mentally. It could have been worse but thank God it were not.
there is stop signs there but me and my boyfriend stoped looked and listen and didnt see anything and we just had enough time to go over then the train went they need the white arms that go down to stop people completley there like they do up town i have lived here my whole life and even one of my friends and her young boy was hit by a train so its not always the fact of not looking and in her case it was the guy telling her to go and also the train to so its not always the drivers fault
If you feel a crossing gate is needed, complain to both the state and railroad. Gate installation is extremely expensive so it may take many of complaints, along with a death or two to justify the cost.
This was such sad news this morning. I will keep your family in my prayers. Please know that you are loved and I am hoping for a quick recovery. Baby Girl, keep on smiling because God loves you and you are one of His Beautiful Children.
Charles and I work together. He told me that both his wife and daughter are going to be ok.
Thank God they are ok, as it could have been much, much worse.
Her daughter goes to First Baptist!!!! I'm sure they don't care if the students are late! Lisa does not hear well at all. She probably never heard the train coming.
What does the fact that the dad was "officer of the year" have to do with this very near miss? "STOP-LOOK-LISTEN" it will keep you alive.Somebody failed to do the above and are very lucky not to have been killed.

i work at continetal tire and out of the 100percent of people that go across them tracks maybe 2 percent stop i hece seen our own deputies run that stop sign and none of them had lights or sirens on
What in the heck is a "railing" that they claim needs to be installed? There are 2 rails running right through the crossing that the trains ride on.
If the quote in the article is possibly referring to crossing signals with gates, then that is pretty plain and simple to describe.
And the Railroad is not responsible for having automatic warning devices installed, the State DOT makes the decision where they go, and the Feds supply the money, the DOT then forwards funds to the RR to have the work completed.
How on earth do you figure this was in any way a "Near miss"? Just a passing glance at the provided photo would show you that the train hit the vehicle.
The taxpayers should fund a proper crossing there so people don't need to stop, turn down the radio or put down the cellphone, look both ways, and listen.
i heard this story this morning when i got to school because one of my classmates either heard about it or saw it themselves on the way to school. i know Lisa very well because i see her at Sunday school and sometimes at my house but she can not hear very well so she might not have heard it. but then again they do need to put the rail up at that train stop because it is dangerous there weather you stop look and listen or not you can still get hurt
oohhhhh geeezzzzzz...what we need is a "railing" to protect ourselves from our own stupidity. I've seen people try to outsmart the "railing" too. People take responsibility for your own actions. Glad to hear the girl will be OK. Maybe her mom will be more careful next time. Cause those trains can sneak up on ya...lol..whatever!
I hope Charlisiais is ok!!! Prayers r out to my little cuzin!!!

I find it very disturbing that people take time to actually make comments that are complete idiocracy. For those of you who insist on stating the obvious, that we are supposed to STOP at stop sign. Have any of you STOPPED to consider the fact this woman man have had a seizure or some other happening that prevented her from being able to stop. It is just plane rude to make mokery of such a delicate situation. It is no one's job to JUDGE at a time like this. We need to remain in prayer and remember that no one is above tragic mishaps.
I challenge everyone who makes the decision to post a comment to think about how your words can affect this family. How dare you speculate and pass judgement! Im thankful that the God I serve has the final word. Praying fervently for a speedy recovery.
As a parent, I feel the side of the mother's guilt she must be feeling for what has happened to her child, yet I also feel that had she paid more attention and stopped at the stop sign like she was legally suposed to do ... this would most likely of never even occured. She should actually be issued a citation and her insurance be responsible for damages caused to the train. I am really glad that this child is expected to recover physically.
Take the tax money we pay into the welfare and put it towards the installation of crossing signals and gates at every railroad crossing .
I prefer to save a life rather than feed, clothe, and house a bunch of sorry but capable individuals that choose not to work and pay taxes !
No, I'm not discriminating by calling out a race, creed, or color . I don't care who you are . If you are capable of work find it and get busy . Don't cry and whine that there aren't any jobs because of the economy . If you look hard enough you'll find something .
Hurry up, I'm tired of working to support worthlessness and I want to see these new signals and gates at every crossing !
My prayers go out to all involved in this accident, the child, the engineer and the mother. The Engineer driving a train is at the mercy of the vehicles that enter their path yet rarely are they mentioned in prayer when an accident occur. Trains rarely leave the tracks and hit anyone or thing. The sad fact is very few people survive a collision with a train. How or what would you be feeling if you were driving the train. Automobile drivers, please stop for trains. It can take almost a mile befor a loaded train can stop when the throw all the brakes on. There are only losers in this contest of vehicle vs train.
I saw the vehicle over at Mitch's yesterday. It really drove home to me how much damage a slow-moving train can cause.
I will be extra cautious at train crossings now.
So glad the outcome of this was on the positive side.
Prayers are with mother & daughter for a speedy recovery.
My observation is that whenever one person is found adequate to the discharge of a duty... it is worse executed by two persons, and scarcely done at all if three or more are employed therein.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Praying for this family!
But I watch people all day everyday flying throw this crossing and the stop signs, with no guard for the people that live at the crossing. The train blow his horn about 5 times that we heard and was moving slow anyone should have seen it. People need to SLOW DOWN and stop the speed limit is 35 not 50 to 60.
After reading your post I think you should spend less time riding around with your boyfriend and more time studying. You writing is almost unintelegable and your spelling is worse.. And if you almost got hit by a train going 25mph or less I don't think your boyfriends's mind was on his driving.
Maybe out of this near tragedy people will be more careful at that crossing. I watch people go across that crossing all the time without stopping, listening, and looking. Do they still teach that in driver's classes?

Where does it say she did not stop?

No one learned anything from yesterday's accident.
