The removal of tornado debris from the rights-of-way of county roads has progressed fairly well, according to Lamar County commissioner Charles Glass. Plans are to stop collections on Friday, July 1.

Highways 18 and 36 (Jackson Rd) are state roads and not the county's priority. True, the county could help out but they are inclined to take care of their own roadways and properties first and foremost.
Intersting, why are we still allowed to put debris by the road, if they are not going to claen up after July 1? Sounds like poor planning, and a hurry to get FEMA money to pay. Intersting what people will do when you dangle FEMA carrots in front of them!
When the Chamber Of Commerce instructed the volunteers to place the debris there and insisted that this would be picked up in a timely matter, it IS thier responsibility to pick up said debris.
The C of C has nothing to do with the county government. So if they told you it would be picked up, maybe you should call them to come out and get it. I'm sure those ladies would love to take time from planning social functions to come out and get their hands dirty picking up sticks. As I understand it, the C of C's responsibility is to promote local business and community although I'm not exactly sure what ours does.

Homes alongside 18 Highway are also county residents and entitled to the same pickup as other county residents not located there.
State DOT removed debris from their right of way within the first week after the storm.
County should extend same service to those residents as well. Not the state's responsibility to clear the right of way of debris placed there after county instructed residents to do so.Q
Apparently Glass hasn't driven out 18 Highway lately.
There are massive piles still in place that haven't been touched in WEEKS.
