He hit the nail on the head. Obama is said to still be in the honeymoon faze of his presidency (after the most fawning campaign I have ever seen). I wonder how long it will take for the American people to realize exactly where we are headed, and when we get there, will they realize how we got there in the first place. I watched people cry when he spoke, women pledging their love for him, women on the internet begging to have sex with him, and I watched him stand before the American people and do and say things that he campaigned against. His cabinet is filled with a lot of questionable characters (who really don't like to pay their taxes - but who want you to pay more than you have been paying). Some of these cabinet members are lobbyists - whom he said he would not have in his cabinet. Another is to go to his hearing now who owes about $10,000 in taxes. When will it end?
Health care is a major issue. As a small business owner my own health care costs me $10,000 and I am in pretty good health. They won't cover anything I'm likely to have a problem with, like reflux or vision, because I have had reflux problems and have had an eye problem.
All you hardened whiners probably are already on medicare or probably have some employer paying the big bucks.
Healthcare costs are as much of a problem as the deregulated banks all are.
We spent 30 some years getting into this mess, it really started back with regan, and one single thing is never going to fix it. We have to fix all the stupid things we have let happen, not just throw money at banks.
#4 You might need to start crying as you see your country go down the tubes. I am not on any type of assistance, thank you. If we spent 30 years getting in this mess, do you want to spend one more going in the wrong direction? I do not! Too many free loaders want what everyone else has. Obama is going to give you the way to get it too.
4; I too am a small business owner. I too have to pay 10k a year for insurance. I am not on Medicare, Medicaid, and my kids aren't on Peachcare, so I CAN whine. I don't feel Obama has a clue. He's a great speaker, but lacking on substance. I don't think Bush or McCain were all that great either, but I think Obama is heading in the wrong direction already. He's turning out to be lap dog and sounding board for Pelosi and Reid. None of the current crop of politicians are really out for us. They're out for themselves. We get to pay the tab.
Get ready tax payers. Pelosi said today she is keeping the door open for a second stimulus. After all, she does seem to rule the roost. Maybe she wants her own elaborate aircraft to fly in. Maybe she will go to the moon next. I can only hope.
#1 It would have definitely ended if Palin and McCain had won. The focus would only be on ALASKA.
Just face it Obama won the election. I can only wait until the people that are not supporting him realize later that he does have a plan and that with the support of everyone (all ethnic groups) this economy will become stronger.
You all have given President Obama more criticism in the past 60 days than Bush had during his entire term.
Did Bush have a plan for all of the 401k money that people like me lost, innocent soldiers that dies to prove to his father that he was man by fabricating weapons of mass destruction stories?.. I don't think so.
Is it your wife perhaps that wanted to have sex with Obama? More than likely!
You elected to have a C' average president lead you into the pit of hell for 8 years.
Stop being liberal and realize that even a Black Man can run a country.
I remember Regan's speeches promoting change from a manufacturing economy to a service economy. We bought into that crap and now the only jobs possible are with borrowed money created to pass around more borrowed money.
Our government has been stealing from the middle class since the 80's. What used to be the middle class is far in hock now. We have nothing to sell the rest of the world to get out of debt. We have very little they want or need except our land.
We did it to ourselves by being greedy, dishonest, and foolish. This isn't going to get fixed no matter what we do and you all know it.
No-one seems to have the answer, but we do have a voice. I e-mail Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson quite frequently when something comes up that I don't think is good for our country and ask him to vote against it. Does he always do it? Idoubt it, but I do have a voice and still have a right to use it. Please start contacting our representatives when you see something that is not right, ask them to vote against it. Then if they do not, find out why! They are elected after all.
1.1 Obama27, get yoyr head out of the sand. First off, no one here has said that McCain-Palin would have been better. I even said in post #5 that they weren't much better. I also don't agree with everything Bush did. But the fact is that Obama is already driving us deeper into a hole. Look at the stock market since he's been elected. Look at the trillion dollars his cronies are throwing down a rat hole. They need to remember the old saying, "if you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is to stop digging." We are digging a hole straight through to China. Quit fawning over Obama and see the big picture. No, my wife is not for Obama either.
The fact is he has no plan, other than to let Pelosi have her way. She's already looking to do another stimulus and the first one is even started yet! His 401k plan? Oh yes, that's a sure winner. We already have a plan like that. It's called Social Security. We all see what a fine mess that has turned out to be. 'Fabricated stories of weapons of mass destruction'? You obviously don't remember that Sadaam killed 300,000 of his own people with them. You obviously don't know any soldiers who served over there, who can tell you that, no, they did not find any weapons, but they did find empty tractor trailers buried in the sand there that tested for high levels of WMD's; they were used to truck the stuff reportedly to Syria.
Yes, Bush was a C average man. So was Grant, and he defeated Robert E. Lee, who was tops in his class at West Point. I've never thought Bush was the sharpest knife in the drawer. No one is saying about Obama being black (actually, he's biracial. You're only seeing black). I could care less if were pink with puple polka dots. What I do care about is green, as does most everyone else. And we have lost too much of it for government to continue to go down this road.
Reply to 1.1 -- First of all genius, I am female -- straight as an arrow - and do not have a husband - (duh)
As to the media's criticism of Obama, the main stream media has made a god of Obama along with a whole lot of Americans. This president has never had a real job, has no real experience with much of anything, and does love to be center stage (while Pelosi pulls his strings behind the curtain), and you think the media did not bash Bush. You must have been out of the country for a while. As far as weapons of mass destruction, I believe there were weapons and they were moved to Syria and Iran. Why else would there have been all the anecdote parafenalia that was found? My opinion! I haven't been to the pit of hell -- but it sounds like you are taking lessons from the great one in your speech. Do bear in mind while you are making your comments, that in 2006 we had a Democratic Congress. d Have you ever heard the expression "lame duck"? Not once did I mention Obama being black -- you did! Please people, get off the race fascination and look at the direction our country is heading in. I'm not in favor of socialism, giving the unions total control of the workplace, paying for everyone else's healthcare or sharing what wealth I have with everyone else because the big O said I have to. I love our constitution and hate to see it put aside!
I am #13 and have a correction -- I do have a husband (sorry for the error but before you say I want to sleep with Obama -- I don't need anyone's leftovers.
If you want to see how our government has done with health care, go visit a V.A. hospital sometime and report back what you see.
If they can't even treat our veterans any better than that, then what on earth makes you think any of us will be any better off?
Also, take a look at how the other socialist countries government run healthcare has turned out. Facts are readily available, if you will allow yourself to see them.
When I was a young man I had the attitude that no one was going to tell me what I should think and unless it was illegal, no one was going to tell me what I should be doing, especially peers, superiors, and religious bodies. As I grew older, and a bit wiser from life’s experiences, I found that I didn’t always have the answers that served me best.
When I started looking for answers in books and from friends, I found most of my answers in the most unlikely places.
I decided one day, I was going to read the Bible, just see what all the hoopla was about. I tell you it was a struggle, and to make since out of the maze of rhetoric and contradictions was almost impossible. Then, I thought I would focus on what was written in red. After all, this was the guy everybody was making such a fuss about. This proved to be more helpful and gave me a better insight as to what were the more important things in life.
This did create another big problem. Although we seem to have a church on every corner and our currency had “In God we trust” plastered on every denomination, I didn’t see our society or our government coming close to doing what was written in red. We seem to as a nation celebrate all the Christian holidays and squabble where the ten commandments should be placed, but we seems too easily, forget the two most important commandments that Christ said we should obey. The irony was that, these two commandments directly oppose the individualistic and capitalistic American idealism.
One, “To love they God with all thy heart, soul and mind and (2) to love thy neighbor as thy self, as said by Christ should to over shadow all other conditions to call ones self a Christian. The interesting thing is, how we do number (1), is to do number (2). How our country could be founded on Christian idealism and so casually glaze over such a core theological principle is disturbing.
The reason I’m taking you down this road is because universal health care looks to me to be the compassionate thing to do. After all, most of the miracles Christ performed were to heal the bodies and minds of the poor and down trodden. To put ones’ physical and mental well being beyond materialistic gain is the core message of all theologies. It’s not only the right thing to do; it’s also the mark of an evolved and humane society. To say that it would ruin the present health system simply is not true. The industrialize nations that do have universal health enjoy longer longevity and better health the those who have access to health care here in the US.
THERE IS GOES AGAIN IGNORANT COMMENTS FROM THE CITZENS OF BARNESVILLE, LAMAR COUNTY, GA. I JUST HOPE OTHER CITIZENS FROM AROUND THE WORLD ARE NOT LOOKING AT THESE BLOGS. IT'S DISGRACEFUL AND SHAMEFUL!!!! LIKE YOUR GRANDPARENTS AND PARENTS USE TO SAY, "IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD(POSITIVE) TO SAY, DON'T SAY NOTHING AT ALL". SOME OF THE COMMENTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ARTICLE! IT'S JUST SAD. I JUST HOPE OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT READING THIS DISGRACEFUL AND IGNORANT MESS.
It’s not difficult to find the info on the net. Countries like Canada (11th), France (10th), Finland, Germany, Netherlands and the UK are at the top of the list of years of life dependency while the US is number 38th. Cuba is 37th. Cuba a country the US has for many years tried to cut off from the rest of the world where people live longer than in the US.
Go get your socialized government health care, then be satisfied to be on a week or more long waiting list for an exam. Wait a month for a CT scan. Sometimes even longer for a dialasys. The government will tell you what doctor to use. You will not have any input in your medications. "Family practice" and a comfortable relationship with a local doctor will be a thing of the past. The doctors and nurses and all will be government employees, that in itself is enough to scare me. -Thats what is happening in these other countries, and it is easy to look up also. Thats what will happen here too.
What profitable, useful government program has actually worked long term?
Also, name one socialist country that has succeeded.
While I agree with some of the things the writer has said. I would caution her about lumping all folks receiving services as plantation folks. I have been the Legal Guardian of a child for the past 14 yrs. and receive services. It has been very difficult, as the government's red tape and attitude of the Social Workers leaves a lot to be desired and it takes a lot one's time to deal with the system. However, I am not one to give up and have had to be extremely vigilant in getting whatever help is available for my child. There remains a lot of racism and predudice out there and some people cannot find a job which pays what they should be receiving. i just thank God for the services that are available and am not ashamed of the fact that I receive a small amount to help me and my child to live a decent life.
UK, Norway, Sweden all have "socialized government health care". In each of these countries, fewer tax dollars go toward health care than the US average insurance premium. More importantly, in each of these countries residents have a longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality rate and a better quality of life.
Where did you get your info? I have been trying to find these articles on line and have yet to find one that says the countries you mentioned have a longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality and a "better quality of life." Could it be that if any of these statements are true, that it could be due to something other than this socialized healthcare. I personally don't think we need any more government intervention or we are going to end up with a pitiful quality of life. Our vets are going to have to pay their own expenses now for treatment of injuries they received while serving our country. These policies just don't mesh with me.
I agree with you about the Private Insurer should not have to cover what was a casualty of war. The only way for war to end is that it become to expensive to wage.
All presidents have to come up with a budget and set priorities as to how their policies and tax money will be used to govern the country. Among many pressing problems, we have millions of Americans who have no medical coverage. Many of those go to emergency rooms if they can't afford to see a GP. Sometimes lots of expensive tests are ordered, partly because Drs. can't afford malpractice lawsuits. Many good Drs. have had to give up private practice because of sky-rocketing malpractice insurance premiums. And God forbid they find a serious problem. Medical bills have been the cause of many hardworking families going into bankruptcy. The problems and suffering go far too deep to just scream "SOCIALISM" and ignore the problem. The world is changing fast and America must be prepared to change when it is for the good of the people. We have citizens traveling all over the world to get medical care they can't afford here, many with insurance. Mexico is getting our illegal drug money and our legal drug money too. Remember a few months ago when the ultra-conservative terror inspiring buzz word was "SECRET MUSLIM"? Now it's "socialism". I wont live my life in fear.
"change when it is for the good of the people" is an opinion. We do have people from other countries who travel to the good ole USA for medical treatment, too. Frankly, I think we would be wise to remember the "secret muslim" because in my opinion -- they are still here.
If only those who agree are allowed to speak, there is no discussion, no democracy, no freedom. To say 'only speak if you have something nice to say' harkens back to the NAZI Socialists, the USSR and other repressive regimes. We are Americans, and I pray that our citizens will remember that before it is too late to save us.
It's called a blog. It's all about opinions. Those who travel here from other countries for medical procedures are the lucky ones. I'm not knocking the quality of health care in America. I'm saying it's becoming out of reach to more and more of our citizens. It is said to be part of the reason our auto companies can't compete as they used to. Japaneese automakers don't fund health care for life as our "big 3" do. We need answers. We need to learn to think and talk again. Maybe it would be wise to realize that if something is broke you need to fix it.
Health care is a major issue. As a small business owner my own health care costs me $10,000 and I am in pretty good health. They won't cover anything I'm likely to have a problem with, like reflux or vision, because I have had reflux problems and have had an eye problem.
