Just left Barnesville! Couldn't get even close to the parade because every street near and including College Dr. was blocked by Police. Most were courteous, but some were rude and obnoxious. They need to understand that a lot of people were from out of town and have no idea where to go. I live here and had a hard time getting close to drop off people that were in the parade.
Just rename it Druggy Days ! I recommend NOT to bring your children after the sun goes down ! The freaks come out at night ! I'll bet GPTV cuts all the trash that really goes on down here and only shows the wonderful highlights ! To all you folks who disagree with this, you are most likely participating in the trash that goes on here !
I came home from work today and found nine thugs sitting on the curb in front of my house smoking reefer. I told them they needed to be moving along and one of them explained to me in very bad english that the curb didn't belong to me. About 30 seconds later my German Shepherd convinced them to move along.
We were very disappointed in the lack of planning for the people who were in the parade. Even a port-a-potty would of been appreciated. And allowing event staff on 4 wheelers to rush by the horses while lined up without any respect was also very tasteless as well as dangerous. Even towards the end of the parade route, there were 4 wheelers allowed on the road going against the flow of traffic again spooking the horses ( and those were law enforcement, seriously) and then they got behind the horses for the rest of the route. That was seriously ignorant and they are lucky nobody was killed. Someone did get hurt after wards at the staging area and hopefully it wasn't due to the same idiots that continued to stay in the area on the 4 wheelers. A little more planning and good judgment would go a long way here.
I am disgusted with how the people in this town treated the streets of Barnesville. We saw so much trash everywhere, there were trash cans all over the place, why couldn't these people use them? Also the police dept should be ashamed of them selves for how they were treating people. They have all year to prepare for Buggy Days and all Year to practice being curtious to others.
Why don't you volunteer next year so we can hear your wisdom. Anyone can volunteer, I'm sure they would appreciate the help. Then next year when the same nay-sayer say that it sucks, you will be apart of it and realize that thers's nothing you can do to please everbody.
I agree, if I had treated the public in this manor. I would be jobless right now. 2 out of 3 police/sheriff deputies were courteous. But the one spoils it for the whole bunch.
And to the person who suggested volunteering....these were not volunteers that were treating people rudely. These were trained "professionals."
Yeah, you look on the bright side all you want. My property happens to be located in town and I actually had a young man come into my back yard and urinate! I also had a group of college kids sitting underneath a tree in my yard at one point. Buggy Days is total chaos and the quality the of people attending gets worse every year.
I didn't even go downtown because I was afraid my house would be vandalized by one of the many thugs and meth-heads walking up and down the streets being disrespectful and throwing trash in my yard.
IT IS SO VERY SAD THAT WE ONLY HAVE NEGATIVE THINGS TO SAY.I DO AGREE THAT IT WAS A LITTLE WILDER THAN USUAL OR MAYBE IT IS THAT I AM OLDER NOW AND HAVE LESS TOLERANCE FOR THE OUTSIDE WORLD.BUT ON THE OTHER HAND I SEEN ALOT OF SMILING FACES ,FRIENDS,TEAM WORK,FRIENDLY STRANGERS AND SO ON.THAT FOR ME MAKES UP FOR ALL THAT I DIDN'T LIKE THIS YEAR AND CANT WAIT TO SEE IT GO ON AGAIN .FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT WORKED SO HARD PUTTING THIS TOGETHER THANK YOU AND MAYBE YOU GUYS CAN TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHAT COULD MAKE THIS EVEN BETTER NEXT YEAR.
You can help organize and bring new ideas. They have meetings all year long, but I'm sure you would rather hide behind your computer and b*tch instead.
seriously, all you people ever do is complain. Did it ever occur to you that maybe it isnt the happenings in Barnesville thats the problem? It might be you. Buggy Days is for the enjoyment of EVERYONE not just old people, if I want to let loose and have a good time for once where is it your place to stop me? We're all very aware that this has been happening since the very first Buggy Days, so dont act as though you've never done it either.
Sure everyone does it when they are teens but do you think it is cool when 30 and 40 year old people are hanging out sloshed and picking fights? When do you grow up? It is absolutely ridiculous and I dont think that behavior sets a good example for their kids, who are also present. How embarassing for the people of Barnesville. I cant imagine what people from out of town think. Redneck drunks everywhere. Does anyone think this may be why Buggy Days has gone to hell? If I were a quality vendor, I would not waste my time!
I have attended almost every Buggy Days and the drinking/fighting issues have ALWAYS been a problem. When I was teenager in late 70's we drank at the dance at Bi Lo parking lot and fair grounds along with the then "adults" that were 40, 50 and older. This is nothing new!
way to to boys and girls...this county rocks.
