Doug Walter died unexpectedly September, 19. Scoutmaster, outdoorsman, carpenter and beloved friend, Capt. Doug was 54.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; and sons, Chris, David and Matt; and a host of other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Barnesville.

Doug will be greatly missed.He taught my son Lee how to survive in the woods without any
food or supplies.He was a GREAT Boyscout Leader!!!

He always treated my like I was one of his own. He fussed at me when I wasn’t doing what I should and made sure I knew he was proud of me all the other times. Mr. Doug always greeted me with a smile and a hug. He will be remembered as a man who could do absolutely anything. No one will replace Capt. Doug! I will miss seeing him wave as I pass that red Tacoma driving down Thomaston Street.. When life is tough, I’ll remember “I’m in!” and when I need some help I won't be scared to “Go in halves”. RIP Mr. Doug Walter and thank you for all my wonderful memories

Dearest Walter Family ,I cant believe that Doug is gone .I have been to the house a couple of times and somehow I forget what Im gonna say to try to help with the griveing .So here To you Doug ,Thank you for comming to see about us after the tornado .I remember seeing you crawing under the grape vines along with your hurried steps to cheek on us.And how your family pitched in to unload the attic that was a total mess. Even when your son took Captian Planet ,Susan made him bring it back and say he was sorry (AGE 29) funny ! You came bearing hammer,nails, and words of advice on rebuilding my house and who will do the best job on spacfic jobs.When you came you would bring my pet pig a ice cream or a granole bar.He will truly miss his treets.I also need to thank you for all the time you took up turning my two sons ,into Mighty Eagles ! You know that doesnt happen often in one family.So Dearest Doug may your angel wing span as far as the wings of an eagle :for they are well deserved.

I didn't know Mr. Walter personally but he touched my life, the life of my boys and many other boys through scouts. I have not seen or heard of many men like him, the kind that gives all of themselves to others! I will miss him, my boys will miss him, Scouts will miss him, Barnesville will miss him. He was a great great man. I don't know if Mr. walter was an Eagle Scout but his leadership and smiling spirt personified what Eagle Scout truly means. Mr. walter your family is in my prayers. Thank you!

My heart goes out for the Walter family. I knew his boys. They're great kids. I wish them and their family the best during such a terrible time.
