Drug busts in Florida and South Carolina resulted from a traffic stop initiated by Lamar County deputies on I-75 here.

only 2 or 3 deputies work the interstate so where are rest and plus the police officers let the ICE team do there jobs

Nothing funny about it. I want patrols around my house to prevent burglaries. That's what I am paying for, not deterring Florida drug traffic.

The drug money from I-75 is probably paying more toward patrolling around your house than you do. I've heard every patrol car is paid for with drug money/assets seized and a majority of it comes from the I-75 patrols. Since you are so concerned, why not go ask the sheriff.

I Love the fact that 75 is being patrolled...i live so close to the interstate..and as long as somebody is watching that area, it keeps them away from my house....THANKS TO THE LAMAR CO. SHERIFF DEPUTIES FOR PROTECTING US!!!

Do you think you are the only one paying taxes, pretty self-center only wanting to protect your house. Our Sheriff is doing a fine job and using the Deputies to cover all aspects of the county. Good Job to the Sheriff and all the Deputies who put there lives on the line daily to keep our county safe.

In all reality, Yes.. seized drug money does pay for the patrol cars and more. Who do you think pays for the maintenance and gas for the deputies to go hot-rodding around. Hint... It's not the drug money. How much has the sheriffs fleet bill increased since Waller was put back in(and no, thats not a jab at him). What I do know is this, That when the vehicle cameras were set to start recording at slower speeds, the cost of vehicle maintenance and gas dropped dramaticly... HRRRM....Could it be that the deputies didn't want to be caught speeding around when no emergency is to be had....and thus causing excesive wear and tear...You tax payers are paying for that, glad I don't live in a county that pays that much for patrolling of an interstate that they dont even have on or off ramps to in the county. How much money was spent the entire year on patrolling such a small strip of road, how much revenue was generated by your "high profile busts". I assure you the county is spending far more than they are getting..Do not be fooled by the numbers in this article, I promise far more drugs go past this county on their way to ATL then will ever be caught by ANY county patrolling the 75 coorador. 17Lbs of weed is NOTHING, compaired to what goes down the interstate everyday. In the end you have to ask yourself, is policing something that is obviously in demand and undeterred the wisest coarse of action. Can't the money be spent better elsewhere. Do you really think that paying many deputies to "patrol" the interstate to catch prob. what equates to less than 1% of the total amount of drugs that passes us by EVERYDAY really worth it... Just a simple thought, from a simple man...

Kudo's to the barnesville police for catching the two thugs who stole to ac's from my cousin. Caught them walking down the street with the goods. Money was used to purchase the cars and pay for their gas from drug money taken during stops. But I agree cameras should start at a low speed. One past me at 6am on 19/41 in griffin going about 80mph with no lights no sirens going.

I wonder if having a history of drug investigations was what the officer used as probable cause to search the vehicle. Or did the driver give consent? If no consent was given, I doubt someone's history of being investigated would be enough probable cause to do a vehicle search. Regardless of what you have in your vehicle, US citizens should never give consent for an officer to search their vehicle. If the officer has probable cause he can search anyway and doesn't need consent. If there is no probable cause, then any search violates the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution.

You're* I agree with you completely though. The War on Drugs has been an udder failure for our country. Billions of taxpayer dollars have been wasted enforcing the blasphemous drug laws that are currently set in place. Many families and lives have been torn apart by this war. Prohibition obviously doesn't work, and never has.

There is no profit for sheriff's office in solving a burgulary. Can't seize the assets, unlikely to seize cash, and unlikely to get big fines against offenders and if they do get fines unlikely they will be paid. I work for local business that has had metals stolen and I understand from mgt the sheriff doesn't even call around to metal buyers. I cannot believe this type of crime is not solvable.

They do come out and do a report though. Pretty clear SO would rather do DUIs and drug cases which are more profitable.

What we should do is legalize it, commercialize it & tax it. This would eliminate the majority of the crime associated with drugs & generate enough revenue to fund treatment facilities, plus eliminate the cost of housing of a significant percentage of inmates

The places that buy the metal do not keep a list of who sells the items to them. They are not required to. There needs to be a law put in to place to hold the buyers accountable for purchasing stolen property. That is not the fault of the sheriffs office or the police department. I love how some of you get on her bit**ing about stuff that you have no clue about.

Waller is an incompetent public official that enforces the law on a whim. He jailed an innocent man in Milner for shooting a police officer.

Oops... Turns out he didn't do it. Never mind the seven months in jail and ruined life he was subjected to.

After being reelected for some mysterious reason, he goes all ballistic about a police attack dog that is "missing". Complete with helicopter searches. How much did that cost the taxpayers?

Turns out the dog escaped from confinement and was killed while loose on private property. Somehow it was determined this was "cruelty" to animals. More of that subjective law enforcement seen earlier in Milner.

Meanwhile violent crime is increasing in Barnesville while he is busy using limited resources to police distant Interstate traffic for press releases and Federal head pats.

I couldn't care less about Buice or anyone else. The current occupant is the problem and needs to be unemployed as soon as possible.

Here is a lil info for you, almost all these police and cops around here are dirty anyways. They prolly doin drugs their self. I have sen them plant drugs on people which is wrong. If they going to inforce the law then they ned to boey the law their selves,,, speeding with no lights or sirens, useing no blinkers while turning. Also playing in the car basically spinning the car around in the ditch. I have seen that hapen plenty of times on five points rd.... Their are very few good ones out here which obey by the law their selves besides just doing what they want. If it were us doing it they would pul us over and write us a ticket. I'm tired of getting pulled over and every time i get pulled over they always want to search me and my vechile, and i have never done nothing wrong. Guess what the next time they want search my vehicle they gona have to get a search warrnt. Tired of being harrased. State patrols i never have a problem out of....

Yeah and JB had one of his employees strap a flash grenade to a prisoners neck. Who called in the GBI about that case? Waller maybe?Didn't money also go missing from the SO too during his term? Don't think that was ever recovered. He also completely isolated his department from every agency anywhere around and in Barnesville. He made Lamar County a laughing stock and NO one wanted to work for him or with him. At some point and time there was probably a 100% turn over rate at the SO. That speaks volumes about the administration. It is also very costly to keep paying for training for new deputies, etc. We can go back and forth on this forever. It is sad that someone can be so cocky and think he knows everything and yet know nothing. By the way, why do you continue to bash Waller when he is not running for re-election? You need to change your tune. Its time for someone new to give it a try!

You are so full of crap. If you get pulled over all of the time, there is a reason for it. Ive never been pulled over and searched because Ive never give them a reason to. Why don't you grow up and take responsibility for your action and stop blaming the police for doing their job. Most people create their own problems and I doubt very seriously the police would have to plant anything on some of these POS in town. I do hope you reported all of these crimes committed by the police to the GBI or at least to the Chief of Police. I'm willing to bet money you haven't, because you are full of crap. Take a good look at yourself and you will probably figure out that YOU are the problem.
