Is there any chance the county will start a recycling program? If you live in the county and want to recycle, how do you have to sort your items in order to bring them in to the reclcying center? What are the requirements?
Technically speaking the county has no recycling. I live in the county and I just bring it in to the city recycling center. If that be the case you don't have to sort it (although I do). Typical categories: glass, cardboard/paper, and plastic (make sure to take tops of plastic containers like water bottles).
I have been recycling ever since the city opened the Recycling Center and appreciate the efforts of the city to provide a place for recycable items to be deposited. The Recycling Center employees do a great job - even when they have to contend with the abuse of the folks that dump their "household garbage" there over the weekend and they have an awful mess to deal with on Morning mornings. Between recycling and composting, we have very little garbage that goes into the Landfill so I hope that I am making a difference.
My students have taken an active interest in recycling, so I find that this is very timely. However, I do have one question. I was wondering if they would pick up recycling from the middle school. We have a large percentage of waste as paper and plastic bottles. Currently, this just goes to the dumpster and I assume to the landfill. The students would like to see our impact on the landfill lessened in some way. I was about to call Johnny Poore and see what he had to say. Or should I ask Kenny Roberts?
Good on y'all 'Mr. Nick.' I love to hear what you are saying. My suggestion is to contact Kenny Roberts who will then put you in touch with the appropriate folks.
Thank you for your efforts.
