You don't buy EVERYTHING from Amazon.com. And if you say you are shopping out of town you are paying another county's SPLOST. Thank goodness there are 79% more people in Lamar County that get it. You certainly don't.
Be prepared, school board soon to raise mills to max allowed by state. It will happen next year. Everyone of them that votes for it should be voted out. I dont have a problem with e splost, the problem is the upkeep of these projects afterward. School tax should be eliminated totally, property owners should not have to support our socialist public school system that has brainwashed our children into being the wall street ocupiers. Lets do like Alabama and just have a sales tax for funding and get rid of property taxes all together. Vote Tea Party!
I voted No, Oh well. Guess everyone that voted Yes, just has too much money than they know what to do with. More than likely you will be the same people voting Yes on the upcoming TSPLOST. All the while my property taxes will keep going up and up.
And to those of you that didn't vote, yet continue to bitch about taxes... Shut the f*&% up! Have a nice day!
No you are an idiot, or work for the school system ,or both. Throwing money at education doe3s not work. Discipline and teaching the fundementals are what works, the private schools do it everyday better and at a lower cost per student. Before you start with your Oprah crap about it takes a village to raise a child , let me tell you it takes a momma and daddy to raise a child not a village. lBJ started this nonsense and it hasnt worked. You will probably say private schools are not the answer and then turn around and say we should tax more to have the charter school here so that the teachers kids and the people at the banks and chamber can say they send their kids to public school. The kids that cant get into the charter school will suffer. Lets help those kids too by putting the discipline back in school and actually make the boys have hair cut and no ear rings etc. It worked for years at Gordon Military High SChool. You know i may take your advice and move to Alabama, Gulf Shores sure is nice and with a low tax rate. GET ON THE CAIN TRAIN!

Hey LT, "state" shouldn't be capitalized. Also, it's "states", plural.
I agree #5. If this wouldnt have passed, the mill rate would have maxed out. So, lets punish the responsible citizens that want more in life other than live in someones rental property. Everyone should have to cover the cost instead of property owners alone. They should be able to cover the cost over the next 5 years or less on these improvements. There should be an outside party managing this money though. What happens to the money that is an overage? Possible fudged documents to seem like it all got used but peoples pockets get fatter maybe? It is possible!
"In neighboring Pike County, the E-SPLOST vote failed 591-540." The government in Pike county did the same thing that's going to happen here, they hold a gun to your head telling you that if it doesn't pass their going to raise the millage rate, and then the next year they do it any way.
I agree. All 895 people that voted for this need to get their heads out of the sand, if they think that passing the ESPLOST extension is going to prevent the millage rate from being increased. They will raise it anyway, and continue to blow money hand over fist on stuff that we don't need. Don't get me wrong, I'm most certainly not against education, I just think our board (and gov't) needs to be better stewards with our money, and extending this tax just gives them more fuel for the fire.
Any organization that had $650,000 in one account in our now defunct local bank is certainly not the best at managing our money. Yes- I am talking about the BOE
It is amazing to me how we can continually fall for the sales pitches politicians put forth to justify tax increases. It does not matter what you call it (E-SPLOST, T-SPLOST or just plain SPLOST) it all ends the same....it is a TAX. A tax that will never go away. A tax is a tax, is a tax, is a tax!!! It all comes from the citizens.....wake up people. I have never seen a tax that politicians approve that they will voluteer to repeal. Unfortunately, it is the drug that fuels or government. I include our current BOE, school superintendent and county officials. They are all after one thing......your money. Once they get it, they will not give it back. I have not seen a single reduction in my property taxes as a result of the last E-SPLOST disaster. All I have seen is a flood of unneccessary projects at the school campus that have nothing to do with education. A Fine Arts facility, football statium, baseball fields, tennis courts, new administrative building........anyone seeing classrooms, science labs, or anything else there dealing with education?? I did not vote for the first E-SPLOST because I knew they would try to extend.....again, once they get it they will never let it go. I certainly did not vote for it this time. They will always have a reason to continue it. TAXES are the government's drug and the politicians (BOE included) are the addicts. Unfortunately, they have managed to once again run us in to debt and hold the property owners hostage. What should we expect!!

Yes, thank you. It is only money after all.
Stay tuned, these idiots will be back very shortly for more of your money.
Meanwhile, I continue to buy more and more via Amazon.com. Wonder why?
Oh, let me try to guess the answer to this one.... is it because you live here but don't want to spend any money to help local businesses stay afloat?
And to those of you that didn't vote, yet continue to bitch about taxes... Shut the f*&% up! Have a nice day!
