Career Academy gets funding

Lamar County will receive a $2.6 million grant to fund a new college and career academy. The Georgia College and Career Academy Project awarded funding to four counties last week. These academies offer 21st century educational opportunities for high school students through partnerships with local school systems, institutes of higher learning and local businesses.

All this is great but who will fund the cost over runs and the yearly operating costs once the grant has run out? The people of Lamar Co. that pay property taxes will ,thats who. Lets see if this describes it, the people that actually work hard and have tried to have a piece of property will fund a school for all.Oh yes it takes a village to raise a child, not their mommies and daddys, Obama, Oprah,and all the intellectual progressives are smiling while the founders of this country are turning over inn their graves.

Redneck, get your facts straight. The credits earned will allow these students to go to work quickly after graduation, rather than having to attend technical or vocational schools for two to four years before they enter the workforce. So, actually these students will become memebers of the taxpaying workforce sooner than they would if they went the traditional route. Only a backwoods, half-brained idiot would think this is a bad idea....oh wait, you already proved that.

It is just like the SPLOST. Us property owners get stuck with the maintenance and upkeep of these "special" projects. The BOE will never understand that some problems cannot be fixed no matter how much money they throw at it.

This whole charter system is just the tip of the iceberg of a massive federalization of education. They are reeling counties in with all of this money, but the strings are always attached. The department of education is there to push collectivization, centralization and the takeover of schools by the federal government, so that they can begin the brainwashing of children, much like the way it happens in Europe, the former Soviet Union and elsewhere. Glad you have so much respect for our founding fathers. One question for you, if all men are equal now , why dont i get a government check and why do I have to pay much more in property taxes than you? And always remember , if you aint first , youre last!

I have alot of concerns about the Charter Programs.
Everytime I watch the news another Charter School has spent all its grants and is going under for lack of funding. Is this going to be the case here in a few years? Will the BOE be screaming for additional SPLOST money and Tax Increases to fund this venture? I wonder..........

I am glad that there are other patriots out there who are awake to what is going on. Its not just education either, many police SWAT teams and other police training programs, teach officers that the founding fathers were bad and that gun owners, veterans, conservatives and libertarians are potential domestic terrorists. I just want to shake some good old boys who think that the whole patriot act, anti-terror, police state crap, is just for brown people with Arabic accents and appearances. No, all of this tyranny is for the American people because the economy is on the verge of collapse and the elites in government want to create a world government which is authoritarian and totally un-American. Just look at Europe, over a period of many decades, the people of Europe have lost their national sovereignty to the European Union, most of the time without any referendums or consent of the people. The EU is the model for regional consolidation and eventually, world government. American's won't like world government because it will mean no free enterprise system as we know it, no second amendment, limited free speech, socialism, higher taxes and a loss of all moral and spiritual values. Just look at Europe and see what your future is unless Americans wake up and take their country back from the globalists and special interests.

My parents paid property taxes and paid my Tuition at a private school. My problem Billy is having to pay for others kids. im glad to pay for my own and dont mind helping with some others but everyone should pay some, thats why we should eliminate property taxes and go to a flat taxn system where everyone would pay some. Just a flat 10 percent for example. If you make 100 dollars a month you would pay 10 dollars school tax and if you make a 1000 dollars a month , you pay a 100 and so on, but this will never work because of the Entitlement Mentality.

I don't know who you think you're talking to, but my husband and I both have college degrees and full-time jobs. That being said, I am more than happy to support any program that teaches our future generation a job skill and encourages them to enter the workforce and become productive members of society. It seems that someone like yourself, who likes to gripe about the freeloaders of our society, would feel the same, but clearly you're too short-sighted for that.

The Patriot Act was written in 1995, pre OKC bombing with one of it's principal authors being Joe Biden. Clinton tried to get it passed after the bombing but Congress did not pass it. Of course, after 9/11, it was hurried through with no one allowed to read it until after it was passed. The same method was used to pass Obama Care.
Yesterday, on the 222nd birthday of the Bill of Rights, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act, which gives the U.S. military to power to detain, without trial, without reason, U.S. citizens. This with very little coverage by the media. Why isn't the "great American" Sean Hannity covering this? Because he's part of it. Him, Beck, Limbaugh and others are put there as a diversion. You think the Republicans will fix this mess? Ha!!!! John McCain and Joe Lieberman have called for internet laws that give government the power to flip the switch and turn off communication among citizens. Google helped China with it's internet "security".
I agree with you on the training of police. Knowing several of these people personally, they are often trained with the "us against them" mentality. The MIAC report, leaked a couple of years ago, tells Missouri state police to watch out for returning soldiers, people with Ron Paul stickers and people who speak of patriotism and the constitution as being pontential terroists. Read your history police. When Hitler was finished his initial phase with the brown shirts, they were rounded up and killed. The police are being used and brainwashed. Police departments are beholdened to the Federal government after they take Fed money. Soon it will time to choose a side. Tyranny is coming and it is coming quickly. Wake up please.

Maybe some of them will work in Atlanta, but own their homes here in Barnesville, hence becoming taxpayers here in Lamar county.
There are jobs outside of this town, you know.
And if you have a few skills, maybe you can get one. See how that works?

SPLOSTs are created to prevent property owners from carrying the entire burden, so your comment makes no sense.
