College consolidations to begin; Gordon spared thus far

As covered here last year, University System Chancellor Hank Huckaby has begun his streamlining of colleges and universities via consolidation. Several mergers will be voted on this month. Thus far, Gordon College is not included.

Report the news Walter, don't make up your own! The State Board of Regents recent release of its plans to consolidate the before mentioned schools is the only mention they have made concerning this. They have at no time intimated that they were considering doing anything with Gordon. The recent hiring of a new President would be obvious proof of this in that the main objective of consoildating schools was to save money, something that streamlining administrative staffs will accomplish at these other schools. In other words, if Middle Georgia were to be consolidated with Gordon, there would be no need to hire Gordon a new President. With the improvements and additions to Gordon in recent years, Gordon is not going anywhere!

Yeah I have to agree with GAB on this. No where has it been said, mentioned or even guessed that Gordon was merging or even possibly merging with Georgia College and State University. That is complete opinion based journalism on his part and if you are going to have this as a "Top Story" which you would think would be hard journalistic stories this is not one. Seeing stories like this have to make you think, is anything reported really the truth or opinion on the papers part.

Absolutely no way Gordon is merging with anyone. Heard this from someone serving on the actual Regents' Consolidation Committee. Gordon is safe- quit stirring the pot.....

plus you misspelled college. "Gainesville State College in Gainesville and North Georgia Colege and State University in Dahlonega."

and we are going to start having to pay for this. lol.

My opinion is that if Gordon has to Merge, it should be with the Agricultural College in Griffin, and make it all Gordon.
This to me is logical, which the Board of Regents if not known for.

Merging Savannah State/Armstrong in Savannah and Albany State/Darton in Albany seems too sensible.

Interestingly enough- the original plan was to merge some of these historical black colleges in with other UGA schools. One "alumni" protest at the state capitol in ATL put an end to that plan, so now other colleges and universities will suffer and lose their identities. What a shame!
