never have and never will celebrate king day-
on that day i think of other people who has helped this county -----not him or any of his heirs..full time leaches...:-(
The younger generation of Afro-Americans can't even tell you what MLK was about and that is ashame. Most look at MLK day as just a paid holiday. As far as myself I don't care either way. Monday is first class junk mail day and I mostly bank on Fridays. It does make getting around easier though because of less traffic.
...to all the above the comments just know that African Americans feel the same way about Columbus Day, Washington and even that Special State Flag you all are so fond of, as well among other things that are important to your community.
We know that Washington played around in the slave quarters while Martha ran the Big House. Let's stop the ugliness. Sheila you probably have never held a conversation with an afro american youth.
We all do not value the same things, differences can be good. Every group of people have their own hero.
African-Americans? I didn't know they had dual citizenship? My understanding was the only citizenship they had was to the United States. For that matter, almost no persons of color you would call "African-American" have ever been to Africa.
Care to cite your source for "Washington" (President George Washington, since you obvious don't know) playing around in the slave quarters? Sounds to me you are trying to justify bad behavior by pointing out other supposed bad behavior. Is that how you get through life? Point out the perceived error of others in order to justify yourself? I try to rise above my failings and the failings of others. Would you say that is something better to aspire too?
Everyone knows that 5.1 is not my blog. I have never in my life capitalized the name obama or any nickname that refers to him. I even think about it a very long time before I capitalize b-b-b-Barry.
A slave named West Ford born around 1784 is rumored to be the child of the "Father of our country" although there has not been any DNA testing to prove like with Sally Hemmings children and Thomas Jefferson as the Mount Vernon Ladies Association will not provide any samples to be tested.
So, you stand on a rumor? That's the best you can do? And so you make a reference to Thomas Jefferson??? So, what, is that guilt by association? Thomas Jefferson did it so George Washington must have too? Come on. Have a little intellectual integrity and do better than rumors and supposition.
By the way, a more recent study indicates that it cannot be substantially established that Thomas Jefferson was the father of children with Sally Hemmings. People may believe it to be true, but there is not enough conclusive information.
You can refer to the following if you care to read about it:
1. Green Jobs.
2. Unemployment, Part time, $70 a hours.
3. Obamacare 2.
4. Jobs Cuts... More job cuts.
5. Military Cuts.
6. No Budget (No big budget deal).
but the dow jones stock market index has gone from 8,600 to 12,300 under Obama....under geo w. bush it went from 10,600 to 8,600......so i will stick with another 4 yrs of Obama or 4 yrs of Rommey
Funny, I bet when the Dow was soaring under Bush (which you are conveniently leaving out) you were all opposed to him. But, of course, your guy is in and it is a different day with different rules. You pick your favorite statistic and benchmark to make your case and ignore all others. If you really think we are better off now that we were when Barrack Hussein Obama took office and the Democrats took control of congress, there is no hope for you. You live in a fantasy world and willfully choose to ignore the truth.
I am white, grew up in 60s/70s. I remember when schools were FINALLY integrated here in 1970/71.
MLK was one of the greatest Americans! Just for a minute, forget your racist, bigoted hatred and look at what MLK died for--he was morally right in his message--if you are a Christian you too should have supported the same ideals. Of course maybe you think it is morally right that:
1) Blacks could not eat in the same restaraunts as whites (of course they were allowed to cook the food the whites ate--kinda weird they could handle and cook your food if you think about it, but not eat nearby)
2) Blacks could not ride in the same part of the bus as whites
3) Blacks had separate drinking fountains (all the while white familys' {mine included} allowed them access to their homes as maids while they were not home and allowed them to babysit their children) Looking back it's easy to see the absurdity of this--Blacks were not fit to be near, but they were fit to trust with your home and children
4) Blacks had separate but equal education systems (yeah, sure they did--hang onto that lie if it makes you feel better)
5) It was acceptable to discriminate against blacks (and women, basically anyone not white Male {I am white male btw}) when hiring, firing, etc.
Not to mention the lynchings and the idiots who still argue slavery was a good institution.
I often spoke with my parents and grandparents and really never could understand how otherwise "good, decent Christians" could reconcile treating black people like they did in direct contradiction to what their Savior Jesus clearly taught. I know the whole bs arguement about times were different, society accepted it, etc.
But I hate to burst the bubble of bigotry and hypocrisy out there, but treating another human being with disrespect and legitimizing this disgusting behaviour through laws over many generations is shameful behavior and was WRONG THEN AS MUCH AS IT IS NOW. Now I am not saying I would have been strong enough to have resisted these abhorent societal pressures, but I like to think I would have at least understood how truly wrong it was and would have hoped I would have stood against such an obvious unchristian behavior.
Some things are WRONG regardless of whether society endorses them or not and regardless of the time period and how others behave.
And for those whites out there who cannot let go of your Godless attitudes of bigotry and hatred in your hearts, as shown by your refusal to acknowledge the wrongs and obvious hatred of MLK, think of it practically. There is no way this country would have avoided riots and extensive civil disruption if we had not finally starting treating a significant portion of our people somewhat fairly instead of legislating them as 3/5s a human.
So, the civil rights movement for which MLK gave his life, (which btw also helped get women and other minorities more equal treatment), helped keep our country more stable and started a more ethical and moral way of life for all of us--benefitting most especially those who claim to be Christians so now they must at least show a semblance of common decency to other humans(far below the clear standards Jesus sets for them). So those of you so-called Christians really owe MLK a big debt (that is if you consider your soul and salvation important). Remember the very important Bible verse from Jesus: "He who turns away the least of your brethren, turn me away." I don't see any mention that this does not apply if they are Black, Gentile, or Jew.
It brings tears to my eyes to read sickofit comments. The truth is the truth and I couldn't have wrote it any better. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! JESUS DIED FOR ALL! Love ye one another was and is the requirement for all believers and followers of Jesus Christ.
I don't dislike Martin Luther King, Jr. because he was black. What I dislike is he was a socialist and that his name takes credit for the work of the people that really put their lives on the line. It is made out like he is the only black man that stood up or was thrown in jail or got beaten for the cause. For that matter, what about all of the people outside his race that took the hard stand for what was right? They are conveniently forgotten in favor of the marketing ploy that has become Martin Luther King, Jr. Even the holiday is not for remembering him as much as it is to fuel more racial division and strife. His message (the parts that were good) has been subverted for personal gain and political power. Not for doing good, but just for the sake of power. If his day was about remembering the value of all human beings and about doing the right thing that would go a long way to make it on target with the message of the Word of God.
So, what in the heck does you comment have to do with mine? If you want to make points, stay on target. Unless you are trying to say that because I am not in love with Barrack Hussein Obama as a President somehow means I am a racist. That seems to be a pretty bigoted view.
sickofit, now the tables are turned. Blacks are now treating whites bad. What are your feelings on that?

Other Slaves from Long Ago

If you go far enough back in the Bible, Moses led the salves (his people) out of Egypt...so you cannot say that only people from Africa were slaves! There were "other slaves from long ago!" It is what it is and I don't know why we can't leave the past in the past and go on with the future ! I'm just tired of the generations living today thinking they are owed something for what happened long ago in the past! Take care of yourself cause no one today owes you anything!
4.2 is my blog. 4 is not. Apology accepted.
#8 is also mine. If you think I would have written #4..you do NOT know me. Evidently you do not even know who you are..anonymous.
Please no....not the future. I cannot speak one word of Chinese. Put me in that Time Machine and shift it into reverse. I'll jump out when I get back to the time of morals. I'd better pack a lunch, this will be a long ride.
I don't know.... I heard a little disdain for Christians in sickofit's post.
Does that make him/her as bad as those he/she is remonstrating?
Is one allowed to pick and choose who he/she bashes?
I don't find that very fair either.
Sorry I missed the laws that make whites second class citizens now. Can you point out where whites have to eat in separate facilities, ride on back of bus, etc.?
I just don't see those same type Jim Crow laws against Whites that were against Blacks that legislated separate but equal education and other discriminatory things.
What I see now is a small elite class of very wealthy people and mega-corporations (most time multi-nationals) making laws that hurt almost all Americans, black, white, and all others.

But on a serious note: racist people, you know where you can go!
