Chamber of Commerce president Amanda Rose has resigned her position to become director of marketing for PetroSouth in Griffin. Rose informed the chamber board of her plans at Friday's board meeting.

She received the awards for what she had already done, not for what she might do in the future. Young successful people are in high demand because they are a rarity in the marketplace today.

What bothers me is that she knew this when she accepted these awards. I would have declined the nomination and moved on.

No one cares what you would have done because in my entire lifetime I can never recall you (anonymous) being nominated for any award.

I am so proud for Amanda in receiving the award. She has done a wonderful job with the the two festivals over the past few years and leaves some large shoes to fill. I am proud to call her a friend. Contratulations Amanda! You earned this award.

Actually, Anonymous was nominated for Time's 2011 "People who matter" award:

FYI, that 'Anonymous' is direct reference to a well known computer hacking group not a group of random douchebags across America who take pleasure in belittling young, hardworking local people behind the quise of anonymous.

The above post was NOT written by me. I nominated Coach Strickland for the award and believe he is the most deserving of it of anyone who was nominated. Call me biased because of my love for sports but it is what it is. That's not to take anything away from the two ladies who received it. Props to them.

Before you pat yourself on the back, you may want to re-evaluate. There is a difference between a proper noun & a collective noun. But that is minor. At least you didn't call me wrong for describing what you are.

I wish I could get jobs as easily as some do. I am qualified, hard working, great skills, but there are no jobs for me. I'll keep trying now. Apparently there is an opening in the COC now.

I can't believe what I'm hearing on here. Amanda is a bright shining star to the city of Barnesville. How can anyone begrudge her an award. She is young, smart and very well liked. Why shouldn't she seek other experiences? Maybe a lot of people in this town could take lessons from her on "class". Good luck to you Amanda. Barnesville was lucky to have you in that job for as long as they did!
