This is such a devastating and horrifying thought that anyone could do such to a man as well known and respected in the community as Mr. Dixon. I hope those involved will get the maximum punishment allowed by law.
My thoughts and prayers are with this family. Mr. John is such a precious man. I pray this is a mistake, that they find Mr. John safe & unharmed. This would be a loss to the community for he never meets a stranger & has a smile for everyone. He has lifted my spirits many a day when I needed a kind word or a friendly smile.
This is just tragic. Mr. Dixon was always so sweet and had a smile ready for anyone. I haven't seen him in years since I moved away from Barnesville. I can not believe what Barnesville has come to. I use to feel so safe there, now I fear for my family and friends that still live there.
I am praying for the family. I am also praying that this crime is solved soon. Such senseless tragedy.
My heart is heavy....there are some evil heartless people in this world....John is/was a good man and he will forever live in my heart....so sad....my prayers and thoughts are with the Dixson Family.
I just keep asking "WHY?" Mr. Dixon never hurt anyone in his life. He certainly did not deserve this. I just feel so sorry for his family and friends. This is just terrible.
I am so so sorry for the Dixion Family my prayers are with you all it is so wrong that the innocent must die May god be with you all and for the one who hurt him may god protect you.............
This is such a shock and terrible tragedy. I'll always remember Mr. Dixon's sweet demeanor and infectious smile. The community has lost a treasure. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
Rumors are flying about the apparent murder of Mr. John. There are still many unanswered questions. The one thing I know for sure is that a good, hardworking man who actually contributed to society has been taken from our community for no good reason. Mr. John was depended on by many elderly citizens to go to the grocery store, to doctor's appointments, to have cancer treatments. Now how will these people get where they need to go? If robbery was the motive, how much was Mr. John's life worth? Will it be enough to justify killing a 76 year old man who offered free rides to the polls so that senior citizens could vote and who supported local causes that helped those less fortunate. My tears have dried and the anger has set in. I hope that our legal system sees that justice is done for Mr. John. But I have a friend who says “God doesn’t like ugly”. So even if the legal system fails, God won’t. I will truly miss Mr. John and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace Mr. John. I will always value your friiendship and look forward to seeing you again someday.
I am so sorry for what has happened to Mr. John he did not deserve that. He was a swet kind man who would help out anybody. Whoever did this I hope you burn in hell because you deserve just that. You did not have to take his life he would have given you what you wanted. You who did this are cowarsds and punks and you do not deserve to live. We will always remember you and love you Mr. John please rest in peace and be sure that we will make sure justice gets served for you.
This is just a shame. people have no regard for human life anymore. God will punish the person who did this. My prayers go out to everyone affected by this.
The loss of John Dixon is felt away as Fort Riley, Kansas. Because I was fourtunate enough to mee John, I was blessed to know a GREAT man. It is sad to say that he lost his life due to in my opinoin seems to be from a well known drug dealer, however if it takes John giving his life in the war on drugs and to put another drug dealer behind bars, I am proud to say that Mr. John Dixon passing will always be remembered.
That sweet old man didn't deserve to die like thatjust because of shelfish people don't want to take their sorry ass to work and want to take from others what they work hard for GOD bless the Dixson family,GOD bless and keep their heads up and keep your strength strong and remember god is your savior and strength. My prayers are with this family.
Mr Dixson was a very kind man. He helped out alot of people. The sad part about the people that did this to him they will not get what they deserve. Instead they will get a free place to stay, 3 free meals a day, and free cable tv to watch. All that for taking this poor mans life. only God will be the one to truely punish them.Rest in peace mr Dixson. My prayers go out to his family.
Tragic of epic poportion. My heart goes out to the family. My pop pop drove for him for years. His blood is possibly on the hands of the Barnesville police, GBI, and that judge. All bias and racist they proved that to everyone with the home invasion case. They had that boy in custody with the gun of the victim and the clothes described as the clothes the robbers were wearing that night. They never tested the clothes for blood or gun powder residue. They released that boy back to the streets because any black boy will do to proscecute. They had blinders on because the police can't do their damn job and catch Eleby selling drugs. Hope some jobs are lost over this.
John was as good as gold. A hard working man who worked bell to bell six days a week, every week. For the past five years he has told me this was his last year to drive but he never threw the towel in. He always recognized me and was quick to wave but never sure of my name. John Dixson was a great asset to the community - He will be missed.
MY heart is broken for this family as well as community. I tought several of his grandchildren.Never were there a student or family that was so good to me and the other children in my class.
I did not know this man, but I sure understand this is a crying shame! Thank you for your heartfelt post. I hope they find who did this and put them away for life!
These lazy ass ppl need to get a job and leave other ppl possessions along.Majority of you young don't have any manners, respect for elders or yourselves. If you did, you wouldn't have taken John Dixson life. I pray to God that he sees that your punishment is merciful. I'm tired if hearing ppl blaming things on the city of Barnesville or the county of Lamar. Start with yourselves, because you have a choice to make in life. Some choose the good and some choose bad and these grimy ass men chose bad. He was not a "cabbie "he was the owner of his cab business, show him more respect than that.He had several cab drivers working for him.
"Rain has begun falling at the scene. Crime scene techs have erected a tent over the body."
I sure wish investigators had this kind of foresight when Donna Johnson was brutally murdered in the wee hours of the morning, then dumped into the rainy field.
I did not know Mr. John Dixson. After reading all the wonderful comments about him, I feel that I missed meeting a wonderful man. I, like Beverly #13, hope the murderer(s) get the maximum penalty for their evil actions. So much evil is going on in our country today. It saddens me. God bless John's family and what must have been hundreds of people touched by John's life.
"All bias and racist " realy.and why is that?you do konw that the term racist carries no weight any more because people like you cry "racist" everytime something doesnt go your way.get the cip off your shoulder and grow up.
There is a time and a place for everything. Maybe you are right, but probably you are wrong. Regardless, this is not the time or the place. Your opinion the matter is not proof of what you claim. You accuse everyone else of bias and yet yours bias is so glaringly obvious.
How about next time you just leave it at "My heart goes out to the family."
I am not saying all college students are like the ones who did this awful thing to Mr. John. But being away from Barnesville for 38 years, I can see how crime has escalated in our small community.I am not a racist, but I believe the majority of crimes in Barnesville are race related and it is a shame for such a lovely town to have such a problem.
Cassaundra always speak for herself only. And yes at this point I do have bias against the justice system in Barnesville. I will always let people know facts that I'm stating. I don't hide behind a nickname. The family know exactly who I am. So they also know I am just one of many who love Mr. Dixson. Knew him well as a child. I have enough sense to not speak for a race of people. I will however fight for a race of people. If it wasn't the place to let the family know. Where is that place Mr and Mrs got the answers?
Wow every time huh? Glad u been with me everytime something didn't go my way. That's why u are able to make that statement huh? I am grown what u need to do is wake up. No, there would only be injustice when something tragic happens to u right no concern for others.
I don't know the place, but this isn't it. You are making the effort to turn this outpouring of grief and sympathy and turning it into your personal little campaign. That makes it all about you. Makes you kind of selfish and self centered. Which also means it isn't about you "fighting for a race" but about you showing out. So, please muster whatever integrity you might have and save your rantings for an appropriate place or comment section on a news story. If you are that interested you can still rant on the articles about the Eleby trial, or Spinks or any of those. Of course, you don't want to do that because you want to do everything you can to make sure people read 'your' comments (which again, makes it all about you). Grow up, you spoiled, selfish brat.
If u believe yourself u wouldn't have comment on my comment in the first place. Ignorance is still bliss I see. Even the editor referred to the trial in the article or did u not read it. Oh yea I forgot its find Cassaundra comments then comment for u. If you really want to offer sympathy go to the family like u should. But u won't cause u hide behind that computer of yours. Save it and go some where else to pick a fight.
I would say you were funny, but it is more accurate to describe your rantings as sad and pathetic. Keep on telling yourself whatever so you feel better, ya spoiled, selfish brat.
By the way, I'm not hiding behind the computer. Anytime you feel like talking it out in person, come on back to Barnesville. I live here, unlike you, and have reached out to the family of Mr. Dixson, thank you very much.
I want to remind us all of the grieving friends and family of Mr. John Dixson. Let's use this time and this "space" to show respect to the man, and support for his loved ones.
There is no doubt in my mind that there will be another thread about the arrest of the perpetrator(s) and perhaps we can use that thread to sound off about bias and injustice and other wrongs.
RIP Mr. Dixson. You have many people praying you up to God's altar.
I am so sad about this. This man and I were "soul brothers" for many years. I don't remember ever seeing him down or angry. What a tragic way for a life like John's to end. I pray for all who loved him, and grieve with them.
So sorry about Mr. Dixon. Such a tragedy. War in our streets are making it where you can't even make a decent living or enjoy the freedoms of life anymore. They may have taken his life but they can't have his soul. That is in heaven now because Mr. Dixon was such a good, sweet, happy soul. My sympathies and prayers go out to all his friends and loved ones.
Our prayers go out to the Dixson family and our love. I pray that the thugs get the max allowed to be gotten. Mr.John did not deserve this. He was such a good man, loving of his community. I wish the family peace. The Passmore Family
R.I.P to Mr. John Dixson, and to the family you have my deepest sympathy. Mr. John will certainly be missed by his family and the community. I hope who ever did this heinous crime get exactly what they deserve in the end.

I'm sorry for the stress the family must be feeling right now.
