God Bless my brothers who serve in the SCV in Lamar Co, as several of my distant cousins,etc. are buried in Greenwood Cemetery who some of whom fought for the CSA, and one founded and named Gordon for Gen. John B. Gordon, born in Upson Co., and was a great Southern Hero,Lawyer, Gov. and U.S. States Senator for Ga. and his statute of him on his horse in on the capitol grounds at the Ga. State grounds I believe is on the north side of the Ga. capitol, and he was born in Upson Co., Ga. in 1832, I believe it was.
Love the Lambdins,Strouds, Burnettes,Middlebrooks,etc. relations of my ancestors in Lamar Co., Amen!
We are a band of brothers,
Native to the soil
Fighting for the property
We gained by honest toil.
And when our rights were threatened,
The cry rose near and far;
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star!
chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah!
For Southern rights, Hurrah!
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag
That bears a single star!
This was the first flag to be flown over states as they individually seceded from the union. Some used different colors. Even today Texas is known as The Lone Star State.
