No confidence in TSPLOST

The transportation special purpose local option sales tax, which we all call the T-SPLOST, has a lot of good projects in it. I am excited to see funding for an extension of the Middle Georgia Regional Airport’s runway. I cannot state enough the importance of such an extension. It really will create jobs.

Neo-Con or conservative, I know not; however, Mr. Erickson is right-on concerning the graft and corruption history of GDOT. No doubt there are worthy projects within the T-SPLOST proposals; however, they must be weighted against GDOT's sorry fiduciary history. Quoting my Mexican friends, I say no-way Jose!!! Vote NO on the T-SPLOST!!!

All I can say in reply is I agree with the article and I agree with you. There could be so much good, but this kind of trust cannot be given to people who cannot be trusted with such responsibility.

I don't know Mr. Erickson, and can't say what his political leanings are. But I agree with the main view of his editorial - T-SPLOST is unlikely to bring long-term gain to this area. And even if it does, it is highly unlikely to help Lamar County. Building roads in Macon, extending an irrelevant airport, etc etc. So what? How about FIXING existing roads? How about putting stop lights on timers to ease the traffic? How about those lights turning over to blinking during off-peak hours? There are lots of things we can do for far less money, that would help just as much. Maybe the businesses that want to build on Bass Road can help foot the bill for the road?

How long does G-DOT need to complete a project? The SR-18 bridge took forever, and most of the times I went by, there was no work being done. G-DOT allows contractors to start a job, move away for months at a time, and come back "someday". That makes no sense. If you want to de-fund a public agency, start at G-DOT.

Finally, I'd much prefer to order my projects ala cart, rather than have to vote on a big group of them, some of which are as likely to cause more harm than good. When the author and Mr Galt both say "some projects" I think "shouldn't we be talking about ALL projects?"
