It appears the withdrawal of the zoning request was because of the intense pressure put on property owner by the citizens in the Parker Branch Road area.
This was a common and classical effort by an out-of-area businessman, a local realtor and a property owner who thought they could convert platted property, zoned AR, to commercial use via special exception.
The out-of-area businessman was trying to sell the idea to Parker Branch residents as a benefit since he would put a communications repeater on the tower to support Lamar County and his claim that his tower would possibly provide lightening protection. Neither claim was well received by the residents.
The realtor like many realtors was trying to make a few bucks without any regard for what impact it would have on the community. One can see why realtors rank somewhere near “ambulance chasers” and “used car salesman” as a profession.
The property owner purchased the property with intent to build, but he found a more viable opportunity within a Lamar County subdivision. None the less he was ready to sell the neighborhood down the river for a few bucks and jumped at the chance to allow a 312ft tower to be put on Parker Branch Road without regard to the neighborhood, which includes his own relatives!!!
The lesson learned is for citizens to be wary and become involved when they see a rezoning notification put on any property, especially in residential areas. The confluence of an out-of-area businessman, a money grubbing realtor and a property owner who would attempt to rezone his property for a sale without any regard of those living near property are potential problems for any community. SO BE AWARE when the zoning man comes a calling.
