Soccer fields on 36 East is an idea that must die. It is unnecessary. It is inconvenient. It is bad for local businesses. It is dangerous.
Unnecessary, because Lamar already has quality soccer fields in town. What on earth plan does Buddie have for them, that is so important he wants to kick soccer out of town? I know he is truly only a 2-sport person, but he needs to realize there are other people in this county.
Inconvenient because most people in the county do not live near there. There are kids who walk or ride their bike to soccer. There are families with 2 or more kids who play 2 or more sports, and how currently can shuttle them all with just a couple minutes driving.
Bad for businesses because right now a lot of families eat dinner in town before or after practice. Just to to Slices or American Pie and look at the uniforms. And when teams come from other counties, they eat here, too. If the fields move to within 2 miles of I-75, guess where all that business will go? Butts County. Our businesses are already in need of more support. Not less. Tell Buddy no!
Finally - and most importantly - think of the curve that that location is on. Think of the logging trucks that barrel down the highway. Then think of 20 SUVs full of kids, waiting to turn in there for a practice or a game.... and imagine the tragedy that is surely going to happen one day, if we make this terrible mistake.
