Author speaks out on charter schools amendment

As a mother of four children currently enrolled in or graduates of Fulton County Schools, I care deeply about public education in my community and Georgia. I know public education changes lives by giving young people opportunities to fulfill their potential and achieve the American dream.

The Board of Education can currently approve charter schools. All this ammendment will do is create a panel of "Appointees" to duplicate what we already have. If the current Board of Education denies a charter school, we as voters can replace them. We won't have that option if this ammendment passes.

Please be aware that the wording on ammendments has become very deceiving.

Amen. This will only add to bureaucracy. We should always be very conservative about ANY amendment to either state or national Constitution. In cases like this, where the amendment is for something quite specific and is really not necessary, one has to wonder why it is even being offered. Additionally, I've never seen an amendment that had such incredibly biased wording.

Charter Schools create yet another government school. This reduces competition - i.e. it makes it even more difficult for private schools to stay in business.

This is partially the goal of "Charter Schools". In fact it might be the primary goal.

Remember - the government hates competition.
