Brad White posted a resounding victory in the race for sheriff. Capturing 62 percent of the votes cast in the three-man race, there will not be a runoff.
Van Baker was elected with 71 percent of the vote in the district three commission race.
A breakdown by precinct follows.
In that it is neither a donkey or an elephant, voters at the old Barnesville Academy complex in Barnesville today assumed this goat was there to eat weeds and not make a political statement,

You also fail to understand the burden on private schools. You fail to understand those same parents are still forced to pay for the government school just as us older folks. Tuition is pretty steep, plus what the school board steals from us is just to much for a lot of folks. In some cases the problem is not the money, the wrong people are in the wrong position. Remember the private school does not have the public's pockets to pull from.
My wife and I has no child in the government schools but still we're robbed of the school tax so the bottom feeders will be taken care of. Their sperm givers can't take of them so it's my problem? Not anymore. Finally we can have school where the best will have a place to learn without interference from the rap crowd.
This means public tax dollars must come from somewhere to fund small private schools, schools that are historically less efficient than public schools.
I'll bet many will be religious, which then violates the constitution.
Why should taxpayers fund private schools?
Charter schools are just another nail in the coffin of alternative education.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_school
In the past any district could have created a Charter School, and areas of Atlanta already have many Charter Schools in the local systems. Each district's ELECTED school board controlled the creation and operation of Charter Schools.
The problem with this new law is the state will appoint a board to handle Charter School creation. These people will not be elected. Voters will have no say over what they do.
The funding is supposed to come from moving the per student cost of public schools to the Charter.
What this really means is voters have taken away the rights of local voters to control Charter Schools through elected local school boards, and placed it in the hands of a non-elected board appointed by the State.
You can bet people will start contributing to campaigns or lobbying, or slip a little cash to appointed board members, to establish Charter Schools with some motivation other than making local schools better. In our infinite wisdom, we have assigned local control of Charter Schools to the State of Georgia.
This is the polar opposite of what we should be doing.
There are so many amendments to this, I'm not sure what current funding is. The original law said we could not get a tax increase without local approval, but it also said the funding for a Charter School would be diverted from public schools at the current rate per student.
If you research the history of Charter Schools, the majority perform the same or worse than current public schools. They don't do any better. They just mean taxpayers have to duplicate infrastructure.
You can bet, sooner or later, we will be funding local private schools with no say in who or what it is.
That IS something to be lauded.
It shows a character trait that I like.
I do believe that you will continue to see a very professional and dedicated staff of deputies and sheriff's office employees who can continue to focus on serving on the citizens of Lamar County rather than walking eggshells and responding to the whims of a dictatorship which they were possibly facing prior to the election.
With the level of inter-agency cooperation and relationships that have been repaired in recent years and the professionalism of the personnel in place now, we will have a sheriff's office we can be proud of rather than one who is the laughing stock of the state. I believe that honest, fair and equal enforcement of the law and the upholding of our Constitution is what we have to look forward to with Brad White as the Sheriff and chief law enforcement officer of Lamar County. We should be proud that this young man has stepped up to the challenge and endured a year of campaigning, along with the accompanying stress on both him and his family, to be a leader and protect the citizens of this county.
You inability to understand the subtle nuance of my previous statement explains a lot about your voting choices.
Cheers!
Oh, BTW, LMAO! TTYL :)
If each of us would take a moment to do the right thing, just because it IS the right thing, we'd be much better off.
